Gunnersauras and Fred the Red are true legends of the game. They don’t talk about it, there seems to be respect between them, but they’re just phenomenal to watch. People try and make comparisons about who’s better, just enjoy them man.

It might interest you to know the origin of Wigan's pie association. Or it might not. But here I go.
In a miner's strike in the 1920s, Wigan were the first pits to back down and go back to work (rather like Nottingham in the 80s where I live now, I must stop moving to scab towns). Across the region, Wiganers were branded "Pie Eaters" because they went and ate humble pie. It was a serious insult.
Even when I moved there in the late 80s the pie obsession wasn't *that* big, but obviously commercialisation being what it is, it grew.
Most Wiganers have no idea why they're pie eaters, and I can't decide whether it's genius to reclaim the insult, or comically ignorant that they're calling themselves black legs.
    But there you have it.

    • @SanFranFan30
