    For the bits I just took a yogurt lid and cut a piece down to the size of the elastic sleeve and rounded the corners. I slid the plastic in the elastic sleeve and now my bits slide in very easily in front of the plastic and behind the elastic. The retention is still great and I cannot shake the bits out no matter how hard I try, but inserting and removing is incredibly easy with no snagging at all. And the plastic piece stays put as well. It is a 100% fix that cost zero $ and only took 60 seconds.
    Clarification: The order front to back is elastic, plastic, bits, rest of case.

    What I would love to see wit this tool, replace the thick awl with a thin needle, change the flathead to a scaple holder, change the small flathead with a pry bar type tool.

    Great find on the Husky 37-in-1. I got one the other day. The one big downside is that the bit holder only holds 14 of the 18 bits. I'm looking at alternate bit holders.

    HUSKY is good value. We use lots of part to mod our multitool. Try using magnets on the holder to hold the bits so it doesn't fall into the sheath. Cheers mate.

  • @walley2637
    @walley2637 Před 7 měsíci +1

    I only need about 4 bits for EDC so i drop a tiny round magnet into the driver receptacle and then i can use standard bits. 3 or 4 single sided bits in a slim holder fits into the front pouch much easier

  • @Thomasplum
    @Thomasplum Před 8 měsíci +1

    I cut an insert from an old plastic check book to cover the space between the bits and the outside elastic pouch. It now doesn’t snag and works perfectly.

It's called 11pcs/set S2 Alloy Steel Material Screwdriver Bit Spanner Tri Wing Torx Hex Star Spanner Screwdrive Magnetic Bit Holder Screw Driver Bits. Surprisingly useful and will be even better withe the 1/4 bit driver on the Dl1.

    Me again Margret. After your month in video, I am thinking of getting one. My problem is that I want a multitool dedicated to outdoor use. They simply don't make one. I used to modify a Leatherman Wave for the purpose, but eventually snapped the expensive 154CM main blade. Now that they have switched to 420c, I would rather buy a can of beans and make a knife out of it before buying another Wave. I won't pay premium price for junk. However, the steel in these DL30 is okay for the purposes, better actually than Leatherman, so I am thinking of getting one to mod the heck out of. The T shank adapter is going to provide the ability for three extra cutting blades, fine-cut wood, metal, and diamond or carbide coated for stone. That in itself will be worth it's weight in gold. I can also mod some other stuff to fit the T shank, like a gouge and a hook. The screwdriver blades I will turn into chisels, and the can opener can stay a can opener, lol. At this price point, modding is affordable. I also intent to mod a ferrocerium fire-steel to fit the bit holder. THEN it will be outdoor oriented.

      @@hvacbudget8600 At that price, if the blade ticks me off too much I can tear it apart and make a real main cutting blade from O1 tool steel. What I DON'T want in a blade is to have to resharpen every five minutes when using it to carve wood or prepare game. At that point, stainless steel really is bottom-shelf grade material for the job. The whole "sharpens easily" argument leaves out the fact that it gets dull just as easily. I think I am asking too much out of commercial companies expecting quality though. Even the 154CM wasn't as good as O1 can be, if hardened and tempered properly. You can do stuff with O1 that freaks people out, such as have a rockwell 60 edge and a dead soft spine, which means the blade won't break, can literally get bent into a "U" shape, even though it will get scary sharp and hold that edge for half of forever. If you do it right, the edge won't even crack when bent, but that shows skill.

    I bought a dl1 and a dl30 as father's day gift and both are great. I keep dl1 at home and dl30 in the garage on my toolbox. I often just use dl30 and it serves me well on various tasks. I have a folding utility knife and a Victorinox swisschamp for more fine works where I need to work on small stuff. Then dl1 and dl30 comes into play for more heavy duty home DIY repairs

  • @jeffkowalski4936
    @jeffkowalski4936 Před rokem +1

    If you just use the screw driver without the handle you have eight tips and two nut drivers and possibly an extension. Just that alone may store nicely in a pouch.

  • @sergio.i

    The last thing to upgrade in this tool - is to grind the hook on the serrated blade and and put a little ratchet into the pouch :D
    what I learned having multitools - the metal\plastic saw is really essential. It already saved me many times - just last weekend I cut the copper 125A bus to proper size to repair broken distribution box, and cut additional holes in thick plastic box to fit the corrugated pipes inside - the wooden saw just can't help me with that as well as battery tools. Disposable t-shank blades are really good find!

    • @hvacbudget8600
      @hvacbudget8600  Před rokem

      I would check to see if the bottom of the blade is ground too flat or not enough. Maybe the pivot needs loosened or tightened. It sounds like maybe the blade just isn't clearing the spring so it can snap out in place.

    2:12 Aren't scalpel blades cheaper? I didn't even know there was a T shank scalpel adaptor. If I get the DL30 I'll definitely have to look into one. Though I'm thinking about getting the scalpel replacement for the blade slot and trading out the serrated blade for it. I never use a serrated blade but a scalpel blade would be great for boxes.
    4:26 Thanks for they Husky recommendation. That looks like a good, cheap driver set on it's own.
