- Beekeepers have many of the same problems. One is harvesting honey, when you handle the suppers the honey is dripping everywhere. Tracy at thehivebutler.com has started a family business out of the necessity of transporting honey frames for harvesting. Turns out it has many functions, it is a storage tank for over wintering frames after harvesting the honey. You can even use it as a Uncapping tank! The super versatile food grade hive butler, great for any beekeeper!

About OFF GRID with DOUG and STACY:
We moved to our 11 acres in 2011 from a large city in the Midwest with zero carpentry and farming skills. We live with no solar / wind power / public water or well. We share our adventure to a sustainable life, growing our own food from vegetables to meat. We post videos DAILY and they range from HOW TO to EVERYDAY LIFE and NUTRITION on the off grid homestead. We were city folks just like you probably and wanted to enjoy life and have more control over our food. We share food recipes as well as natural remedies.

I think you can make your own desiccant packets for much less expense by using Litter Pearls Micro Crystal Unscented Non-Clumping Crystal Cat Litter By Litter Pearls or some pure silica gel type kitty litter that you can buy by the pound.
I went to www.thehivebutler.com website to purchase these boxes and on check out there is no option to use your “ offgrid” save 10% or to contact the seller . Can you help please?
@@FlorinaDarr When you go to the "checkout" there is a "discount code" section.
RoseThistleArtworks thank you! I see it now. I went to use my PayPal instead and there is no option for a coupon . PS I like your channel , guys !)
That camera mic is no good for wind, looks like a perfectly calm day, sounds like a hurricane between my ears! lol
Ya, I don't like the idea of the moth crystals, na!!! Fantastic, invention!!! And made in the USA!!!! Thanks for sharing! Do take care.
Hey Doug, firstly, I appreciate all of the valuable information you pass along. This topic was particularly interesting to me. However, the audio was a bit rough. In the first part of the video, the audio struggled with wind noise. Once you brought it in the Learning Center, the echo off the walls made it very difficult to focus and hear; I had to keep rewinding. It seems like you both were yelling to be heard over the echo. You may want to look into lapel mics and adding some sound absorption into that room, especially if it is going to be a focus of communication on your homestead. I'm sure you get a lot of "advice" from viewers. I'm just trying to provide feedback and make sure the quality of the audio is as good as the content. Please keep in mind that bad audio will, usually, ruin a video faster than a bad visual experience. Thanks again for all of your contributions.
Thanks kyle you said it thanks mate
Yes I know... I'm trying to get to Hollywood standards ..sometimes you don't know till the edit
@@OFFGRIDwithDOUGSTACY Alternatively you can condition sound in post. But lapel mics will help.
OFF GRID with DOUG & STACY ........ Don’t worry , Doug, you don’t need any fancy-shmancy mics or anything else to make your videos “Hollywood quality”. The content speaks for itself!! You can’t control the sound when you’re outdoors if it’s windy out and the sound won’t be the same when you go inside a big room like the one this video was shot in....my question is are those butlers tested as being food-grade plastic?? Say “hey” to Stacey!!
Yes, they are food grade of the best quality
I'm glad to see people getting there pride back and bringing america
Hey Doug....Just an observation regarding recording in the Learning Center for the time being......There is allot of echo in there because it is probably still "empty".....If you have the ability, turn the sound down a bit on the video...we can turn it up on our end if needed.
Sound damping would help. Or lapel mic.
and patience lol we were fresh off the conference and a mower was going outside so we jumped in here... hang on yall everything will be ok, sometimes you just roll with it =)
Beekeeper here. Thanks for the Made in America!
Me too
I bought one of these last month. As a first year beekeeper, it gave me more confidence when doing inspections as I was afraid to put the boxes on the ground or hang the frames on a holder for fear of losing the unmarked queen. I'm able to put the frames in the Hive Butler and put the ventilated lid on and work through my inspection without a lot of bees flying around, which I'm not accustomed to as a new beek yet.
Yay! We love that we were able to provide you with that confidence! I hope you enjoy your Hive Butler for years to come!
All her ideas were great!
Thank you so much!!
You should have her at your conference to share great idea much helpful.
She was there
Growing up my grandfather always had bees. My dad and I have helped him to get wild hives.
this is making me want to become a bee keeper more and more, soooo easy!!!
Great info!
Good thinking and every success with sales. Thanks for the video and I echo the suggestion of Jerry below.
Amazing!don't know anything about bee keeping I'll look for another video you guys have 4 beginners
I need to learn as well. Good thing to have.
Great invention
Nice video as always. Thanks for sharing
What a great idea!
Pretty interesting product. Glad to hear it’s made in the USA. When you run 9 frames, there’s lots of honey in those cappings to recover.
Moth crystals hey, I am pretty sure they would contain naphthalene which is a pretty similar chemical to DDT. I would not want that near any frames I would want to extract honey from.
Yep! Don't use 'em.
Lapel mic's might be a thing.
I'm a beekeeper and this is a great invention!!! Thank you for bringing this to us.
Me too
Great idea!!!
Love these hives!
I am right at 50 y.o. I worked, lived and breathed bees for years growing up in central California. The business itself hasn't changes all that much. Transportation has always been hot, sticky and heavy. But this seems to be a huge step forward for the bees and the keeper. The hive butler looks like a great product.
Blessings.
Thank you so much!
Doug and Stacy, thank you so much for having us! We’re so glad you love The Hive Butler as much as we do!
The Hive Butler is a truly amazing invention. But if you want to make it into a swarm trap it needs to be painted are colored so light cannot come through. Bees want to move into a dark place.
I just commented a suggestion for you so I will share it here. You showed that there are 2 different types of lids for the boxes, a solid lid and a ventilated lid. Can you make a lid that has a snap on solid cover to the ventilated cover? Then you have 2 types of lids in one.
@@wandaschmidt4046 Hi Wanda! I did respond to you on your original comment! Check it out!
@@icecold1011 thats a great point!
Awesome product and design, I’m a first year beekeeper but use Layens hives, any plans on making boxes for other frame designs besides Langstroth?
Very cool!
Loved seeing them and you and Stacy at the Homesteading Life Conference this past Sunday and Monday! It was an Awesome time for The 2 Granddaughters, Alan and I! Thank you for All you do for us!!! 🙏💗💓
Wow, those are fabulous!
Thank you!
I purchased a set for uncapping. This is an AMAZING product!!!!
Looks like a great product. USA🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Great idea. Price is crazy. Probably good for a few hives but prohibitive for many hives.
If you have a big business, like no sugar if you have to boarder or trade in the future, You would do very well with this product. Honey butter, spun honey, loads of nice things you can make with it. They would probably pay for it's self. I suppose it is to carry the full honey racks from the hive to indoor for processing.
9 at a time is good. Just two containers would be good to start with. I am really going to be planting flowers and dealing in bees next year perhaps. This world gone crazy, we are going to need stuff like this.
Awesome video
Wow! That is a awesome product that solves a lot of problems and increases yield. Thank you for the great video and keep up the great work.
Girl Power! Fabulous American ingenuity!
Whoo Hoo!
LOVE these boxes!!!! How cool!!!
To help prevent honey dripping from removed supers, if you are running standard Langstroth supers (not horizontal hives), and do not have a lot of supers to work, lift the supers you plan to remove off the hive and set them right back where they were. Come back the next day or so and remove them. The bees will seal the broken cells and you will have very little honey dripping. On another point, if you live where there are Small Hive Beetles (which is almost everywhere now) you really need to process your honey within 3 day of removing it from the hives. If you wait longer, the Small Hive Beetle are likely to slime your honey. If that happens, wash the slime off with a low pressure garden hose, put the frame in a deep freeze for 48 hours (to kill any remaining SHB, eggs and larvae), let it thaw and put them back on a strong hive and the bees will clean it up. Another point, If your combs have never had brood in them, you really do not need paradichlorobenzene (moth crystals). Just cross stack them in a well lighted and ventilated area.
True
I'm sharing all your bee keeping ideas to my baby brother, he's the bee keeper in our family. Hopefully he will add y'all on to his u tube channels .Y'all have some great info and a lot of make you think ideas ☺ God Bless❤
Just bought 80#s from our bee man. 40#per bucket, one from last year and one from this year.
Awesome product
Thank you!
Brilliant solutions all around!
Thank you!
First time I have seen the inside of your 'training centre' = VERY NICE! The teaching today, of both your guest and you Doug...just flowed. I know nothing about beekeeping...but I always appreciate teaching...there is something you can always learn. Happy to know another business has blossomed in the U.S. Thank-you for your time/talents shared Doug/guest. This vid's nuggets were...(wait for it)...SWEEE-EEEEEET!!!! health and God's continued ABUNDANT blessings upon you n' yours!
Wow this is genius! It’s so simple and brilliant! Great idea!
WOW KNOXVILLE , TENNESSEE !!!
Great Honey solution!!
Who the heck is thumbs downing these videos!?
Very informative!
Nice tool
I'm a Hoosier too. Love your show
I don’t have bees yet, but trying to educate myself. I like what I see concerning harvesting day.
Thanks for the video Doug. I'm hoping that you will make a detail video of the whole process from start to finish, starting with taking frames out to putting back in or storing. Really enjoy all the info!
Up next
Awesome Made in America thank you
Great idea. I wish I had time to have bees.
What a great product. You thought of it all..Thanks for the info..
Thank you!
Awesome box
We are looking forward to getting bees again....I just put this on our equipment list. Good info thanks.
We had a heck of a time trying to find someone local to come and take a swam of bee's in one of our trees out back, they were just too close to our house. They were worried about not knowing the origin of them but we lived by a grove. Oh, bees made use of our old squirrel house, Needless to say we took them down but Love our local honey. Like hearing about new inventions to help our farmers No matter what is farmed. The necessity of inventions.🐝🐝🐝📚📓😛
Fascinating!!
I am not a beekeeper but I love watching 628DirtRooster and Jeff Horchoff's videos. I wonder if The Hive Butler company has tried contacting them? They would reach a much large bee keeper market for them. Just a thought.
Thanks for the info! Tell your favorite Beek youtubers to drop us a message! We'd love to talk to them about The Hive Butler!
👍
I am enlightened 😉
Omg I'm soooooo happy it's Made In America!!❤🙏🇺🇸
I had to be made in America. Wasn't as easy, or cheap, but we were determined!
I dont even have bees but I ❤❤❤ THIS PRODUCT!!! Way to go and "Bee" The Best AND create Jobs⭐⭐⭐⭐
Thank you!!
Thanks for teaching us! Love to Doug and Stacy
What a great idea....does she anticipate adding a drawer on the bottom so that the honey that leaks out can be pulled out at one time? I would imagine it's still difficult to get the honey out of the bottom of the tubs otherwise.
All you need to do is install a honey gate like the uncapping tank
If you do not want to install a honey gate in the front, which is super easy, tipping The Hive Butler so all the honey runs to one corner and down is super effective! (We use a rubber spatula, which is perfect for getting every last drop!)
Just ordered mine! Thank you
Super cool!
Been a little while since I have watched... this was a great video - you crack me up Doug! Informative, fun, and funny, keep up the great work. Thanks for the intro to Tracy and her ingenious HiveButler.
Thank you!
If the honey drips from the frames, it's because they're not capped. Uncapped honey is most likely not dry enough and can go bad (moisture). And are those boxes deep enough for Langstroth frames?
this question has NOTHING to do w/bees. Doug, have you done a video & if not, could you make a video and upload on how you have gotten in shape- especially in the "middle" section please? Asking for a friend (my hubby!) :-D Thank you! You guys are looking amazing! L'Chaim! To Life!
I did do that video but get rid of sugar and white flour 👍
Checking in on things
My bee buddy and I are going to buy a few of these to share. We are hobbyists and help each other so trying to keep it affordable... we can easily share the cost this way.
Cool...thnx
Sounds awesome! Can't wait to get those shipped out to you!
I don't have bees but i want one, awesome product.
I would like to see a Hive Butler for the Layens frames
Great idea. I love them. I use rubbermaid containers and they are not food grade.I want them
That's what we started out with too! That is exactly one of the reasons we designed The Hive Butler.
My son Scott was won over to bee keeping by Dr. Leo he didn't get to check this out thoroughly but he will. Thanks for a great conference and we got our tickets today for next year.
Woop woop thanks for coming and see ya in 2021
Cool, I am setting up my 'horizontal bee hive' for next year. This will be great to add to my unused suit and equipment. Yea!!!
Hey Doug, if you wanted to use that for a swarm trap you would probably need to paint it to keep light from coming through. Bees don't want to move into a space that has light in it, they like the dark.
That's a great point! Thanks for mentioning it!
@@TheHiveButler So now you need a removable dye for making a trap that can be multi purpose as well. Should be something to coat the outside that can be reversed, but it just is not coming to mind. Engineers for ideas?
EDIT just remembered my neighbor used a spray rubber for his bumper on his truck. When it got marred, he just pealed it off and sprayed it again. Maybe work on that type of plastic? Worth a test run.
Could the uncapping tank be used to process honey comb from a top bar frameless hive? This will be my first time and will be mashing the comb and letting it drip out of the comb.
Not true, otherwise they would swarm in the ground and pollinate at night.
I am working on an attachment that fits on the hive butler for the laynes frame.
We can't wait!
That's awesome definitely a great idea!!!
nice one i am thinking of bees all the best from north wales
Nice innovation. It also will increase the life time of the supers, because carrying and transporting them several times when they are fully loaded will cause damaging them sooner
Very cool
Firstly thank you for your content creation. I've enjoyed what you have shared since your early days. 🤠
Feedback to try and be helpful.
When you were in the field I was like "wow, I gotta find out what mic he is using. That sound quality is sensational". Then you went indoors and the room did your audio zero favours. I hope this serves as helpful and constructive feedback that assists you going forward with your content.
Again thank you again for everything you guys do, and if you get time to drop a line as to what the mic you were using in the field I'd sure appreciate it Sir.
Kind Regards from Outback Australia. 👍🤠
I thought you were going to show one I have seen the man invented a spigot on the hive and the honey came out of the hive. My son has had a swarm come in the corner of a window and must be between the walls. He can't afford someone to come and get them out the house is old and has asbestos siding shingles. It would just ruin that. He is just going to spray them, but I was concerned they would get in the house.
Those are cool
User friendly. Made in America. What else do you need?😀
I actually just use a spare hive box to sort what im taking for harvest! I try to use least plastic I can and actually made my own box out of sterile wood! This bin reminds me of the ones that store clothing nice idea
They are no comparison to the normal plastic storage boxes. These are very heavy duty and sturdy.
Just a suggestion How much more plastic and design would it be to make those boxes to fit the Layens hive frames ? Or would the demand be so low that it would cost prohibitive ? Those boxes are a great idea to have on hand for housing a swarm . Thanks !!!
I have them working on it 👍
Hi....... OFF GRID with DOUG & STACY, thank you for sharing your video homestead chicken farmer garden 👋 bye 👋 bye 👋 bye 👋 👕🐔🐓🐥🐕🐈🌱🐑🐴🎥👍👍👍
good morning
Just a suggestion for the maker of the Hive Butler, she noted that there are 2 different types of lids for the boxes. Could she make a lid that has a snap on solid cover to the ventilated cover? Then you have 2 types of lids in one.
That is a great idea! We did look into that possibility, but for structural stability, and to make sure our solid lid would have the tightest seal possible (gotta keep those wax moths out!!) we ultimately went with the two lid design.
Wow these are awesome.. Thanks Doug for sharing. Have a great weekend.
as usual, a plethora of information! I love the bee table cloth too :)
This is awesome, bees are so interesting.
They are
Here's another vote for the European style frame
Hey Doug hey Stacy thank you for the video
Do you know if they have plans to do it in layens configuration?
Best
Didn't hear anything about dimensions. Will these accept standard layens frames? I'm also a follower of Dr. Leo.
That’s a great question. As Layens hives and frames aren’t as commonly used in the US, we designed the Hive Butler with Lang frames in mind to best fit our customer base. However we’d love to eventually have a modification to be able to accommodate multiple frame designs! At this time, we’re discussing possibly designing an adapter for the hive butler to be able to accommodate Layens frames!
Thanks, this is great! Shared with our bee keeping friends.
