  • The railways of Ayrshire were once an area flourishing with coal traffic owing to the rich coal seam across the south-west of Scotland. The county town of Ayr itself played host to a number of workings to and from the local pits with many trains being marshalled at the nearby Falkland Yard.
Following the Government’s drive towards renewable energy, coal had been badly affected and thus these services have now since disappeared.
This short film illustrates typical workings to be found in the area in 1995 where these trains were largely operated by BR Class 37 locomotives.
