  • Shot on 1/22/16 at Broadway Junction. This station has a very unique history as part of the BMT system. It is currently served by the BMT Jamaica Line, BMT Canarsie Line, and the IND Fulton Street Line, but also served the BMT Fulton Street Elevated until 1956.
While the station has a history back to 1865 when the area served the Brooklyn and Rockaway Beach Railroad, The Jamaica Line platform, opened in 1885, is the oldest station is the system.
The Canarsie Line platform, which sits above the Jamaica Line platform, opened in 1928 and is the second highest station in the system after Smith - 9th Streets, although it drops sharply at either end (the north end enters a tunnel).
The Fulton Street Line platform, opened in 1946, runs underground beneath the elevated complex and is connected by an overpass and stairs. The Fulton Street Line, when it was first opened as an IND line in 1936, was built to compete directly with the BMT Fulton Street Elevated, which ran directly above it. The elevated line was made completely redundant in 1956 when a connector between the underground Grant Avenue station and the elevated 80th Street station was opened, and the BMT elevated line was finally taken out of service.
The East New York Yard lies directly north of the station complex, with track connections to the Jamaica Line and the Canarsie Line, as well as steel superstructures that previously connected to the Fulton Street Elevated. Many of the old steel structures are still present today. Track connections also exist between the Jamaica Line and Canarsie Line, and in the past through trains have traveled from Rockaway Parkway along the Jamaica Line to Manhattan.
Until 2003, each of the platforms had a different name:
Jamaica Line: Broadway - Eastern Parkway
    Canarsie Line: Broadway Junction (retained)
Fulton Street Line: Broadway - East New York
Includes NYCT R32 subway cars run on the C, J, & Z, R42 cars run on the J, R46 cars run on the A, R143 cars run on the L & Z, and R160A cars run on the C.

I must also say "Run R32, run! Run as long as you can! Forget the Transit Museum! You've outlasted any of the models that the Transit Authority ever ran. Between the R10's, the 16's, the 27/30's before you and the R38's, the 40M's and 40s' and the 44's that came after it, all which are now gone, I would of bet that in 2016, the R40 slants would have been the last one standing if you asked me in 1983. I have a tremendous respect for the R32's to keep running past 50 years! They deserve an ovation at every station it enters. Kudos also to the R42's as well for 47 years. They always been my favorite models to ride.

Thank you very much for the history of these stations. I am always enthusiastic about the history of the subway trains and each station. It adds a special touch to your video. Thanks again and keep up the good work. Also, you gotta mention the old QJ and KK trains that used to run on the Jamaica line if you get a chance.
