The fact that you can't use your phone whilst driving (and rightfully so) but car companies can put massive touch screens on the dashboard that require you to take your eyes off the road to turn things like lane assist or change the air con / heating settings is insane.

The mk3 facelift has everything you said you'd like , you can permanently turn off lane assist and there is a button to turn of the start stop the air con is on a dial, and there is no fussy gear parking select it all works of the gear shift as standard and has a proper hand break, the auto hold is a great feature if you have a manual and are driving in a hilly area, but not needed in the automatic.I love the look of the new seats and the body styling but think all in all I prefer the mk3, hand break on a button is a no no awful thing to use and to easy to deselect from auto and rely on something that is switched of, as for stop star it is dangerous you don't know when it will activate , you can be at a junction and wanting to pull away quick to avoid a car in opposite direction knowing you have the faster car then the thing cuts out just as you are about to floor it out of there, or on a roundabout you pull out when you should have the right amount of time and power to pull away the thing activates just as your over the line and bang someone goes into the side of you and its your fault, so you either have to turn it of or wait 15mins for a suitable opportunity , in a manual it's not a problem as long as you keep car in gear with foot on clutch.

12 socket in boot.use auto handbrake it puts it in park .just set temp and let heater sort it out. You can steer past lane assist. Lane assist turn off is only two button presses on instrument cluster and stop start also on that menu. Good thing socket by mirror for dash cam.

THANK you for this excellent video! I have the same model (but petrol), and all those things that frustrate you also annoy the hell out of me. I drive all day everyday, and am in and out of the car at least 10 times per day. My routine is: Start the car, turn off the lane assist (3 buttons), Turn off the auto stop start (2 buttons), Turn the engine drive mode to "individual" to turn off the annoying pretend engine noise inside the cabin, Turn the air-con using the stupid screen settings, THEN put it in gear to drive away...It is such an annoyingly excessive series of steps to do. My Mk 3 wasnt this bad. In fact it would retain the drive mode and lane settings each time it was turned off! It was very validating to watch your video and see that I am not the only one who feels this way about the tech of the mk4.

Great video on the Octavia Vrs, I couldn`t agree more about the stop/start function in the vehicle. I have driven lots of cars with this function but for some reason in the Octavia Vrs it kicks in way too soon and actually knocks the engine off before the car comes to a stop which is so annoying and on occasion quite dangerous, i think Skoda should give serious consideration to recall on this to have the problem rectified.

Darren, totally agree with most of your hates. One thing though, that A button you thought was auto hold is all you need on, to activate the auto handbrake. The P on the autobox has nowt to do with it at all, as you said. So just to repeat, just make sure the A button next to the handbrake button in activated. Yes, the lane departure is a pain, and will follow 'ghost lines', no longer on show. And yes the Haptic buttons, and hidden controls accessed on the computer system is the work of madmen or women. Someone I know has had awful trouble with cutting out, caused by the stupid S/S system. I told them to just turn it off, luckily their A5 tdi has a button to do so, as they struggle with technology. After all that, what a lovely motor matey. Enjoy, and safe travels.

Yep you're right there, don't know how many reboots I have left on my old brain though ! I got a 2019 VW Golf, not much tech thankfully, but nice big control screen, but plenty on good old fashioned buttons and knows. One thing that did happen, concerned the auto handbrake on my way down to Manchester. I had a thermal travel cup in one of the cup holders, and after a few miles down the M6, the car locked it's rear wheels, eekkk !!!. This then happened a few minutes later. A bit shook up, I finally realised that, when reaching for my coffee in travel cup, the handle on the cup, had hooked itself under the P button of the auto handbrake switch, and was activating the rear brakes when moved. Talking to the mechanics at the dealers at a later date, they told me that the position of the switch, next to the P switch in the Golf, had resulted in many cars having to go in for switch repair due to getting soaked in liquids from cups on the adjacent holder. Repair cost well in xs of £500 !!!!!

Also you don't have to hold the button on the steering column to start it, you just press and brakes and just tap it once and the car will start.
You can deactivate de lane assist for good from the "CAR" section in the main screen.
You should just have gotten the Superb, it has all the things you said you don't have in the Octavia, like climate controls, Auto Start STOP button, P on the gear selector...

I had a 21 plate Octavia VRS and i had it a year and i got shut off it, i hated it. Having to go through multiple screens just to get to the air con button to me was dangerous especially whilst driving. Were i live, when i go to work, its all 30mph roads with speed cameras. Id set the cruise control to 30mph and when id go past parked cars, my car thought i was going to crash and bang the brakes on for me even though i was in control. Skoda are now saying that with future Octavia's/Superb's they are bringing back the knobs/dials but each dial will do multiple things, push it to do one thing, push it again to do something else just like Land Rover do now. At the moment, Skoda aren't advertising the Octavia VRS on their website so you cant but a new one.

It’s a shame that the latest iterations of Golf’s and Skoda’s are blighted with all this silly sliding control stuff. I had a Skoda Superb 2013 for many years and I found the controls to be excellent, standard VW. Currently driving a 2018 Golf 7.5 estate which also has the long standing human intuitive controls thankfully.
Golf has a simple button press for stop start on/off and it remains off.
Auto tailgate I thought would be great (on the Superb) but the beeping drove me crazy and I would rather depart/return quietly. If it wasn’t for ULEZ I would still have the Superb it was everything I needed in a car including 4 wheel drive.
Keyless entry great until your car is stolen.

Take a look at this video: czcams.com/video/4y5ctu2fYgA/video.html When you stop the car (with DSG transmission), always do in this order: 1. break pedal to stop; 2. hand brake; 3. parking position of the transmission. Guy in the video explains it very easy. Mostly during the "parking pawl" part. But I recommend watching it whole. It might start making sense why Skoda made it this way after watching the video. It's easier to press handbrake and than another P on the transmission without thinking how many times I have to move the knob. But I agree that without knowledge of the parking pawls this design seems to be confusing. I was confused too.

The whole car safety thing is a ridiculous hypocrisy. Yes you get lane assist which for no good reason makes you swerve dangerously. Plus a myriad of other safety features. Then they take away all the useful buttons and give you a screen with sub menus to navigate whilst driving.
You can’t use a phone in your car so what makes using an in built screen any different.
Time to revert back to buttons and common sense.

If you want 12V socket next time order the smoking pack, the you’ll have it. It’s a choosable option in the configurator, complete with a small ashtray bin that can be placed in the cupholder.
Some of your hate points were invalid, because you either were lazy to read the manual or you did not pay attention when ordered the car.
Start-stop and touch control sucks really.

toyota is not better.... you have to start turning off things, every time you start the car. Why isnt it the otherway.... cruise control is also horrible on new toyotas, it simply does not work. old cars were able to hold speed, but new ones just dont, they refuse. And the climate is the main reason I cant have the new octavia.... I would buy it, if it had a climate know - i need it. thankfully new toyotas still have that, fanoff button etc.

Having problems with the infotainment system. It turns of wile driving, can't control the AC, because it's all digital on the screen, and it shows loads of errors from the sensors. The service staff told me they can't help because it's a software problem and we should wait till they get a new software update. It's outrageous to pay 24k euros for such a car and can't use it. DO NOT BUY SKODA EVER!!!
