இந்த "கொங்கு" என்ற பெயர் கர்நாடகாவின் கங்கா நாட்டு மன்னர் கொங்கனிவர்மா மாதவன் என்பது மருவி "கொங்கன் நாடு" மற்றும் "கொங்கு நாடு" என தமிழ் மக்களால் அழைக்கப்பட்டது, கங்கா நாட்டு ராஜாவின் பெயரை கொண்டே "கொங்கன் நாடு" மற்றும் "கொங்கு" நாடு என அழைக்கப்படுகிறது
