The final helix on The Beast is insane at night. Night rides on the beast are so legendary that right around 9:30 you can watch people running from everywhere in the park to get in line before the que closes at 10:00.

    • @urbex_coasters
      @urbex_coasters Před 7 měsíci

The Beast is insane at night, especially Gravity Group's version. But it doesn't compete with rides like Outlaw Run (that drop into the abyss at night. Perfection) or Voyage (that spagetti bowl deep in the woods). But the fact that I'm talking about The Beast in the same conversation as 21st century coasters that were built as record breakers really does go to show it is a great ride.

a night ride on beast is a must. being an op, back when haunt ended at 1am, i was working a close shift and we weren't done cycling people until around 1:40. i hopped on the last train of the night for that lrob and it was absolutely amazing. at almost 2am on a cool late summer night, everything was so still except for the coaster as it blazed through the track. amazing experience!

It's interesting hearing from family in Ohio that back in the 80s, Kings Island was THE Ohio park for coasters. Really wasn't until Magnum and Raptor that focus started looking to Cedar Point

Even in Virginia (where we had the sister park Kings Dominion), in the 70s and 80s, Kings Island had a reputation for being a really big deal. My mom had fond memories of going to Cedar Point but it didn't get talked up as much generally.
Part of that was media cross-promotion. Taft Broadcasting owned the Kings parks and Hanna-Barbera, and I remember the Banana Splits Show had these proto-music-video segments that usually showed the characters riding rides at Kings Island. The park was brand-new and shiny at the time.

    • @MattMcIrvin
      @MattMcIrvin Před rokem +2

This is interesting: Wikipedia says I'm wrong--those scenes were shot before Kings Island opened and were shot at Six Flags Over Texas and at Coney Island (Ohio), the Cincinnati amusement park that existed before Kings Island (and is now a waterpark). But there was a TV movie made later that did have the Banana Splits at Kings Island.

I hope you get that Beast night ride. I know you missed it this year with the retrack going on. I was lucky enough to get it a day that had a late rain. The cool blast hitting the first tunnel is something I will never forget. And just the whole ride experience has never been duplicate on any other coasters. (I only have 60 coaster credit though).
I never rode the original Bat. But, back in the day, I heard of people that rode it and said it was amazing. It was a totally different ride experience for that time.
King Cobra was OK for the novelty, but you really sat on a bicycle seat that they crammed in your crotch.
The Racer, I always preferred the backwards racer.
Screamin Demon was my first looping coaster.
Orion is my first giga, rode it this year.
Mystic Timbers is just a non-stop trill
Diamondback is an awesome airtime machine. I agree.
Thank you for making these videos. I'm happy you love my hometown park Kings Island.

Flight of Fear is in my top five at the park but I honestly think it's because of the theming - it was one of the first coasters I ever rode when I was eight, and it was the first *themed* coaster I'd ever ridden. I was super into science fiction at the time and the story completely captivated me, and I've never been able to shake that nostalgia.

Smashing through that helix on a slick track was one of the most intense coaster experiences I’ve ever had. It lives up to its name.

I actually did a lot of research on KIC about Bavarian Beetle. It was where Festhaus now stands in Ocktoberfest (hence “Bavarian”) and after a lawsuit over an 87 year old being non-fatally injured on the ride, it closed in mid 1978 and was replaced with a Ferris wheel. An interesting note is that the overwhelming majority of its video is from Banana Splits Partridge Family and Brady Bunch. A very similar ride was at Kings Dominion but closed because of a fatal accident with a young boy being reckless. If more info is needed ask me

Seriously, something you definitely don't want to miss and I hope you get that night ride eventually. Also absolutely love the love for Diamond Back. Out of all the amazing coasters King's Island has, none of them come close. The sustained floater makes me feel like I'm flying. The restraints are super comfortable and give me enough room to experience that amazing airtime. Given the absolute steller quality of rides at King's Island (it's also now my top amusement park in the country too) I'm super curious to see what comes up next to fill in all that additional space where Vortex used to sit.

Due to a combination of its layout and the long staggered seating trains, Diamondback probably has more airtime than any coaster in the world after Steel Vengeance and The Voyage. But on Diamondback it's faster, and more vertical overall. SV is the coaster with the most airtime and its steel hybrid coaster; The Voyage has the 2nd most airtime and it's wooden hybrid coaster, and Diamondback probably has the third most airtime and it's a steel coaster.

But there's a chance I'll return next summer and if so then I can't wait to try Mystic Timbers and Orion.
I spoke with an employee at Kings Island and she told me that the reason Son of Beast didn't get the RMC treatment was because the amount of bad publicity it had already received made it too late for them to even consider it. That's too bad because that would've been the perfect project for the company.

Thank you for always making such awesome videos!
I never realized how many of Kings Island's coasters I had ridden through the years (all except Barvarian Beetle) and I agree with a lot of your ranking. I would put Vortex a little higher, but that's based on memories from my teenage rides when it was state-of-the-art. I had an awful last ride on it in 2016. I rode the original Bat when I was 9 years old so my memory is probably flawed but I always picture it swinging so much, almost dumping me out of the bucket. The new one is the best Arrow suspended I've ever ridden and, compared to it, Iron Dragon to the north doesn't even feel like the same ride. The Beast night ride is so good...it feels non-stop fast when it roars through those pitch black tunnels. Orion is really fun, but it just isn't that memorable to me; fun first drop, but there is nothing that makes it stand out with the closest thing being the helix at the end.
Totally agree with #1 and #2. Mystic Timbers is a blast and my family has so much fun yelling, "Don't go in the shed!" like obnoxious idiots. And Diamondback is way underrated...I love it, and there is nothing better than throwing up your hands and just flying.

First and foremost, that Beast night ride is a must. It's dark, it's an unpredictable layout (not after many rides, but point being it's non-traditional and doesn't keep crossing over itself), and if you catch it after fireworks on a late night, it's smoky/foggy in addition. The top 5 of the list is very hard to argue, and KI has some amazing rides. Interestingly enough, I'd move Woodstock Express much higher on the list behind that top 5, though. For a family coaster, it's architecturally gorgeous and rides amazingly well. It's smooth but has some great positive and negative Gs for the type of ride it is. As a child it was a gateway into a lot of other coasters and now having taken my own kids on it, it's still very enjoyable.
Kings Island plays second fiddle to Cedar Point these days in roller coaster notoriety, but has always been ready over the years to be cutting edge. Not all of those ended up being successful, but the current lineup and some of the historical rides are really amazing and make it still a top roller coaster destination to this day!

Glad to see Diamondback at the top as it should be, it’s one my favorite all time coasters. I can’t say I agree with the kiddie coasters being below Son of Beast, that was just a painful, miserable, and infamous experience and it wasn’t closed soon enough in my opinion

  • @Chillguy99
    @Chillguy99 Před rokem +4

I may disagree with much of this list but I can't get enough of these list videos and I love how you incorporate all of a park's coasters, past and present, into the ranking. Thanks a lot for the video and I encourage you to do more parks when you have time. I assume most enthusiasts will agree with your list more than mine but I thought I would post my own anyway.
I have not been to King's Island since 2019 so I am going to leave off Orion---I assume I will really enjoy it but I feel like I need to experience it myself before making specific assumptions. (I will leave in the older coasters I have not ridden however).
    1. Banshee
    2. The Beast (Night Ride)
    3. Vortex
    4. Mystic Timbers
    5. Diamondback
    6. The Bat (1981-1983)
    7. The Beast (Daytime)
    8. The Bat (1993-Present)
    9. Demon
    10. Adventure Express
    11. Backlot Stunt Coaster
    12. Flight of Fear
    13. Son of Beast (No I never got to ride it unfortunately. I am used to rough wooden coasters so I assume it would be in the middle of this list---although I could still be underestimating the roughness. My bigger problem though is the layout which wastes an unbelievable amount of track on drawn out helices).
    14. The Racer
    15. Woodstock Express
    16. King Cobra
    17. Invertigo
    18. Bavarian Beetle
    19. Scooby's Ghoster Coaster
    20. Flying Ace Aerial Chase
    21. Firehawk (I absolutely hate Flying Dutchmans, sorry. I suffered my only panic attack on a coaster while being stuck lying on my back during the final break run of Nighthawk and even if that had not happened the sensation of being on my back for sustained periods of time makes me extremely uncomfortable. I do agree with Chris about the loop however---that was the one impressive element of the ride.)
    22. The Great Pumpkin Coaster

Love your channel! Kings island is my home park. Mystic is my favorite for sure. I’m excited for the Zamperla Endeavor next year, but I think a Mack xtreme spinner would be awesome. It would have ejector airtime, spinning, launches, and inversions. It would fill every gap in the park’s already stacked lineup.

@@cedricwaller1502 I thought about that. It would be cool, and they could maybe do a mobius loop like Twisted Colossus. But it just got a repaint so I don’t see it happening. That’s a good thought though, and I think it would have a nice layout if RMC did their magic.

I've only been to KI one day, but it was a great day. Awesome park. And because I went in 2022, I haven't ridden any of the defunct coasters, but would've loved to. Here's my ranking:
    13. Flying Ace Aerial Chase (yup, hang 'n' bang it is...) 92/98
    12. Woodstock Express (good kids coaster) 79/98
    11. Adventure Express (it was decent, didn't do too much, but fun) 68/98
    10. The Bat (only rode it once due to no Fast Lane, but it was wild; I'd need a couple more rides to cement its spot though) 54/98
    9. Backlot Stunt Coaster (good family coaster) 47/98
    8. Invertigo (I like (smooth) Boomerangs, and this was better than regular Boomerangs. I just wish they could replace the restraints (not the trains, don't want another Goliath) so there's no headbanging) 46/98
    7. The Racer (good ride, dumb ratcheting lap bars) 44/98
    6. Flight of Fear (good ride, could be fantastic if it didn't shake so much or basically stop mid-ride) 42/98
    5. Mystic Timbers (I appreciated it more each ride, may bump it up in the future) 19/98
    4. The Beast (was pretty smooth due to the retrack, and the night ride is nuts) 18/98
    3. Banshee (wild invert, very close to Montu) 17/98
    2. Diamondback (didn't ride in the back, but was still an awesome ride) 6/98
    1. Orion (hot take, add just 3 more hills and it's probably better than Fury) 5/98
Overall, a great lineup. Excited to return someday to a potential RMC!

I grew up going to KI about 3 times a year from ages 3-16 during the years 2003-2016. I have ridden everything that’s come in and out of the park in that timeframe plenty of times, including Son of Beast. I first experienced Mystic Timbers in 2018 and thought “oh that was a solid coaster”. I didn't remember it being anything super special. I have recently returned to my coaster fandom, after a 5 year hiatus, and have learned that this has become the most popular ride at the park among enthusiasts and can't, for the life of me, seem to figure out why. I just got to ride it again yesterday; It’s a good ride, but for the hype it gets I was expecting something at least great. Might be the 8th best coaster I’ve ridden at this park. To each their own, and I'm aware I'm in the clear minority, but it is a very forgettable coaster to me.
Ultimately, great video as always! Kings Island always has and likely always will be my favorite theme park and you are spot on with Diamondback being the best coaster the park has ever seen. No question.
