    Thank you so much for your help and knowledge. My wife recently had bilateral knee replacement and I'm assisting her with rehab. I just purchased a Goniometer so I can monitor her progress.

    Thanks for sharing. Just had a Plica Mediopatellar Arthroscopy surgery a month ago and my knee is still stuck at 70 degrees which is really frustrating. My knee joint is stiff and still slightly swollen making it difficult for me to bend my knee. Have an MRT Scan appointment next week to check if it's scar tissue or effusion making it difficult for me to bend over my knee.
    I will be getting this measurement or using the tape on the floor using the toilet seat.

      I have a video about knee bending exercises. Hope it helps! Love the idea of sitting on the toilet seat. That’s a good idea!

    Thank you for the video, very informative and was easy to follow. I have 110 on the left and I have around 103-105 on the right. I would like to have 110 on the right. I had the right done on 10/18/22. I was told it would be hard to get more because of having artho fibrosis. I am keeping up with my stretching, slowly getting more. At this point, are there any options to get more flexion out of both knees. I was shooting for 115 on both. The left was done on 1/22/23. Thank you! Bill

      How are you Today? And Can you walk with this range of motion?

  • @thirdactwarrior317
    @thirdactwarrior317 Před rokem +3

    FYI, you can get a goniometer app for your smartphone. You launch the app and get your knee to max flexion. Then you place the phone on your thigh and then hit a button on the screen and place the phone on your shin. It tells you the angle. Also, FWIW, my surgeon and my DPT both said they did not want me to go past 120 degrees. They said that can damage the joint.

    • @dr.samanthasmith
      @dr.samanthasmith  Před rokem +1

      Oh cool!! Good to know. I’m going to try it. And yes some knees aren’t allowed to go past 120. Each replacement allows a different amount but 98% of them go to 120-125 max.

      @@dr.samanthasmith I'd be interested in knowing how accurate you think it is.

    • @thirdactwarrior317
      @thirdactwarrior317 Před rokem +1

      I think it's very accurate for what it measures, which is the angle between the front of the thigh and the front of the shin. But per your demonstration, a plastic goniometer measures the midline of the side of the thigh to the midline of the side of the lower leg. I just don't know how the two compare. Also, I find both measurement devices hard to use on myself. It would be interesting to see a professional compare the two on another person.

    Hello Dr. Thank you for all of your videos. 3 months ago knee revision. I have 108-110 flexion. Extension is 5 degrees. Will I be able to get more flexion & extension over time? I am in PT 3 Xs a week. Getting frustrated and losing hope. Had MUA with first knee replacement. I hope I’m not headed that way again. I’m losing hope. .

    • @dr.samanthasmith
      @dr.samanthasmith  Před rokem +1

      At 108 -110 you won’t need an MUA. Same with the 5 degrees. You’ll just need to continue stretching. You are on the right track!!
