- This video is How I mounted the trolling motor on the back rather than on the side. This was a lot of fun for me. All made from things I already had. Designed specifically for my kayak but I am sure it will work for others that have a built in handle. hope it was helpful.

I'm Jake and ever since I was a tiny kid I have been OBSESSED with fishing. The Goal of this channel is to take you along on my fishing adventures both good and bad and inspire you to "GET OUT AND LIVE ", Which is what the G-O-A-L Fishing stands for. Being outdoors and pursuing fish, however that looks, has always been fulfilling and life giving to me and I hope to share a little of that with you.

"Do the best with what you have until you have the best" I like that, just ran into to this channel thanks to the YT algorithm. And now subscriber. Awesome stuff.
Bro… you’re a freaking genius 😂
Thanks for the v video man! Exactly what I was looking for and I love your attitude about everything. Plus it always feels good not having the best equipment but pulling in the most fish. 😁🎣
Now that pretty cool. Hope it works good for you
Bryan Colby I took it out yesterday and it worked pretty good. The pedals were a little sticky and it was actually easier to reach back and turn the throttle for the speed. It worked but with a full day test of fishing I found a few ways to simplify it.
Unfortunately there is a lot of miserable people out there that criticize everything we do as CZcamsrs.. I really appreciate what you do and all the good vibes! 😎🤙🏻🤙🏻
Looking good Jake 😎👍🏼
That’s bad ass! And honestly a genius idea. I hope it works out great for you man
Dang that's cool, keep up the hard work and tight linZ🤙🎣
chop through the trolling motor shaft just above the steering control bar. (leave just enough shaft length so you can still pull your motor up) seal the open shaft end with resin so no water can get past the wires. Snip the wires with enough length to allow a connection, connect additional lengths of wiring to allow you run the cables along the kayak. Ensure the connections are watertight. you can now move and mount the top speed part of the motor control next to your seat. Chose your mounting position/height shorten that shaft to suit then mount the controls to your kayak in a comfortable position, connect the wiring. You now have the speed controls at your side just twist and go. this is how I'm doing mine. Motor at the back controllers at your side.
That's pretty innovative, man. I like it! 👍
Nice bro! Great job
Great video! Suscribed. Its awesome you dont pretend you know everything. Keep up the solid work
Good stuff mate, cheers.
Time for a 60amp pwm. A 3d printed box for the throttle knob and forward reverse switch make it nice and convenient right next to the seat. Nice work you won't regret it.
Want a 3d printed box? just say the word. I will get one printed.
@@cuzimnik25 I’ll purchase one
Smart and cleverness 👍🏽
Great video brother, you made me smile🙏💙🏜
master of puppet.. i hope one day they will make remote control for small trolling motor.. or i think they did.. remote control... was wondering if you can make a video showing how you unload and load everything on your pickup bed..
Loving the channel and the content!!
Also love the simplicity of the trolling motor latch. I've seen other videos which have cords in order to lift the motor.
With this method does the trolling motor lock back into place easily when you lift it? As well as easily drop back into the water? Any tips or tricks for this methods as I will do the same here this Spring.
The only problem I see is the lack of more duct tape and JB weld. Lol.... Can't wait for the on-water test! Seems like I've seen many folks take the twist grip off and move it up next to your seat....Then the next evolution is the PWM box for speed control. Keep it up Jake!
Thanks Ray Hemmele. Little by little we’re getting there
That's some serious creativity bro!!
Thanks for your Nice step by step instructional video. I have a question how do you manage the weed when you on the water, because now the motor is out of your reach. i’ll appreciate your reply.
@Saikh Rachi I actually haven’t dealt with a lot of grass in the waters that I fish, so it hasn’t been a problem for me. I have made a lot of changes since this video and I am able to pull my motor up a lot easier, but it is still a reach to be able to get to the motor for weeds, but I could do it if I Had to. It may not be the best design if that is something you have to deal with a lot. Here’s the link to my latest Kayak setup, it may be helpful. I know I like it a lot more now. czcams.com/video/8slLvkNUSW8/video.html
When I saw your video on the rod holders, I thought it may have been to heavy for the rod holders that came with it (I experienced the same thing). Now that you have removed the motor, are you still using these rod holders? or have you found a solution to strengthen the pvc rod holder extensions you built? Thanks for the awesome content !
@Jordan Victoire yes I do still use the rod holders I just took the piece of wood off. I love having it!
I'm looking for ideas on mounting my minn kota, only thing on ur install I question is...your throttle control, what if it just slips on the tiller handle...do you have a means to kill the motor ?
@Kieth Moore I have updated since then to a pwm box and I’ve made a lot of other adjustments too.
@Kieth Moore here’s the most updated version of my kayak with the trolling motor. czcams.com/video/8slLvkNUSW8/video.html
Hey Jake..when you tested it out when it was on the side mount, did you almost tip? Do you have a link of that test drive?
@canam2436 I have moved mine to the back and I prefer it that way.

Jay if you get an electrical clamp it has a rubber a gummy rubber insert in it that would be perfect for what you're doing to steer it that is an ingenious idea because I'm wanting to get the shadow caster but I've seen some of the reviews and I wanted to know how you like it have you had any problems with it and the other thing is they have a universal you can buy them just about anywhere on a cam system for changing the speed you just make one side longer than the other and when you turn the handles from side to side it will take and adjust the speed for you cuz as you turn from one like if you turn to the right and just keep turning it'll take and just increase the speed and if you turn it to the other side it'll just turn at the opposite way and do the same thing in genius idea take care and I'm really enjoy watching your videos because they're actually very informative take care and have a great day I laughed when I see you dress at 52°. My God we call that summer time here at home I live here in New York and Niagara Falls
@Edward Kennard I have made quite a few changes to my design again. It is much better now I have a pole rather than rope and pedals to steer and I have installed a PWM box to control the speeds. I’m loving the new setup. I should be doing a new video on my Kayak soon because I have made a lot of changes and I’m enjoying them. Thanks for watching and I’m glad you find the videos helpful.
Any updates on the new trolling motor setup? Very curious
what kind of fish finder are you using and would you recommend it?
Brian Birch here's a link to the one I use amzn.to/3uU8c8A
I have really enjoyed it. I invested a little more in this one because it already has maps built into it for the major lakes. But one of the most popular ones is the striker 4. its around $100 and will get the job done.
Hey Jake where can I find the kayak you have or what kind of kayak do you have?
@J Torres I got mine at dicks sporting goods. It’s the field & stream shadow caster 123. I don’t know if they still carry them but there may be some online. I also do a good peddle kayak at sportsman’s warehouse that looked really nice that comparable in price to mine. Take your time and shop around.
@@GOALFishing Thank You sir I happen to come across a video of urs with good information about the kayak. I’m trying to find something stable and safe. Like you said “I prefer being safe and steady vs the speed”. Makes sense. Thank You. I will still shop around and see what good deal I find and also safest kayak I find within my budget.
How do you remove weeds and lily pads if it gets hung up?
@hithere I haven’t had to deal with that yet. Most of the lakes that I use it in don’t have a lot of grass and lily pads. I am able to pull the motor up and out if it became a problem I could clean it. I have changed a lot from this design though.
