The amount of acting talent between these two is immeasurable
What acting talent? One just stares the camera with poker face and the other belching out gibberish like a pothead.
Where the fok is the foking acting?

How foking Dare you insult these two gents
Calm down, it's not that good
@@jaserogers997 yeah he exaggerated too much
@@jaserogers997🤦♂️🤦♂️🤡
There's a nice touch here, Tommy shows how much he knows about Alfie telling him that he knows he keeps a gun in the drawer (Alfe has been making a show of checking the drawer) later Alfie says intelligence is valuable but it usually comes far too late...then pulls the pistol from the other side of desk, showing Tommy that he doesnt know half as much as he thinks he does.
The bottom line for me is that Alfie could've just shot him and that's the end of Shelby, meaning he's not as "intelligent" but realistic. Yes, he would've had to deal with the consequences but Tommy would've still been dead. Two collosal threats in one room.
I saw a reddit/youtube comment a while back saying Tommy's nosebleed saved his life. It wasn't in the script and was added later by Cilian. Alfie describes his "biblical" form of stigmata where he hammers a nail through an Italian's nose. They were there to discuss an alliance against the Italians. He took the nosebleed as a good omen that they would defeat their enemies.
lol he probably had a second gun on his left just to mess with tommy
I never noticed this detail and have watched this scene at least 5 times, thanks for pointing it out!
@@imemberberry This makes a lot of sense.
When you put these two together, you always get something beautiful.
just like batman

Tom Hardy giving a masterclass of charismatic acting.
Cillian Murphy giving a masterclass of subtle acting.
Two of the greatest actors of their generation with loads of chemistry in a perfectly written show.

@@trashcandy. Hardy rarely shows the ability quite as well. Locke perhaps being an outlier
Alfie was a good character, Tom Hardy nailed this role
He nails most despite him using werid accents
I prefer eva elfie
ah, a man of culture
He nails every role.
@@SPACEHARICE If you notice, his accent is different slightly each scene as Alfie. Just slightly.... and I think it's on purpose. As the character is so unpredictable.
I just love how Alfie was planning to take a long, excruciating talk to make his point but when he realised Tommy's having nosebleeds from obviously recent physical traumas, he relented and cut to the chase a bit. And also throws him a napkin to clean himself
They represent PTSD really well on this show, even Alfie talking about what he did in the trenches feels more like a confession than a brag. Idk if that was the writers intent but that's how it came off to me.
Some guys need to get this shit off their chest and they don't really care who's listening even if it's a total stranger
I assumed the nosebleed signified his blood pressure spiking, and Alfie cut him the slack for not flinching. Some people can really walk the line between aggression and respect
@@Batchall_Accepted Hammering a large nail into someones nose with a duck board does not strike me as the act of a regular solider, so I'm not sure it would be PTSD inducing....
@@vtrmcs Can you imagine being in those tranches for years? You probably would explode if you were face to face with the enemy.
@@vtrmcs
Those guys had a lot going on. I could see if shooting the enemy might get unsatisfying.
The scenes between Tommy and Alfie are scenes that have a place among the best scenes in television and cinema. 2 of the best actors of their generation.
One of the best additions to the cast. Tom Hardy absolutely nailed that role.
"I'm sorry Go on, tell us your plan" is gold
Like a sweet grandma humoring a grandchild
i love the gold ring
I love how Solomons throws Tom a cloth when his nose starts bleeding
Indeed a man of honor
And Tommy just acts as though it doesn’t exist lol
its a handkerchief nub
Solomon: Pulls out gun in anger. *angwy*
Tommy: Literally pops a vein and starts bleedin'.
Solomon*Fawk m8 thats way more pissed of than i expected*.
@@GGGmod1 Your transcript of Alfies thoughts is spot on. And fookin hilarious because of that.
Damn, Solomons might just be the scariest and most intimidating character in the entire show, which is saying something lmao. He's perpetually seething and murderous just under the surface, but is also clever as all hell and charismatic. Deadly mixture.
Agreed.
Scarecrow meets Bane(batman). Eames meets Fischer(Inception). Broken man meets Farrier(Dunkirk). Tommy Shelby meets Alfie Solomons. These two love filming in the same movies dont they? Their IRL friendship is amazing.
Christopher Nolan loves them
Because they’re both incredible actors. It’s extremely rare you get two really really good actors/actresses to do more than 2 hours together without their charisma losing its touch.
Eric Deeds and Bob (drop bar)
I love cillian Murphy and his portrayal of Thomas Shelby.
That being said, the fact that Tom Hardys Alfie steals every scene he is in from Him says so much about how well written and acted Alfies character is.
Alfie is probably the best non main character of any show or movie ever written. I cant remember being so fascinated about a character and his performance before.
making me want to rewatch the whole series
sameeee
Just watched the whole series for the 1st time. I'm so glad I didn't have to so many years for it to end
TBH I didn't really understand the last season. So ya, I'm with you mate. Time to rewatch this beauty.
"and the bullet goes bone, mush, bone, cabinet-"
chills
Tommy been threatened at gunpoint so many times he don’t mind it anymore it’s like “just another day same old same ol” 🤣🤣
"The truth is, we died together once before. Arthur, me… Danny Whizz-Bang, Freddie Thorne, Jeremiah, and John. We were cut off from the retreat, no bullets left, waiting for the Prussian cavalry to come, and to finish us off. And while we waited, Jeremiah said we should sing “In The Bleak Midwinter”. But we were spared; the enemy never came. And we all agreed that everything after that was extra. And when our time came, we would all remember."
He was fearless, because he considered himself already dead and living "extra".
Pretty sure the point of the bloody nose was to show that he was indeed feeling fear aka raised blood pressure bursting a weak blood vessel from his injuries. he just has a really good poker face.
love the way Alfie sit down and put Tommy's ego on the floor in 3 seconds
Amazing scene but the grenade negations scene later is their best one together imo
It was a great scene but a bit poor regarding accuracy. The grenade was no risk and Alfie being a WW1 vet would have known that. It was on a trip wire - meaning he could have just shot Tommy and taken the wire off. it can't go off until the fly-off lever is released. So you can literally pick it up and tape the handle back down, even with the pin gone. The guy was outside the front door and wouldn't have seen a thing.
@@OngoGablogian185 well we dont know where the tripwire is and he game them a limiyed time to decide after which they would have pulled it anyways.
@@darthchilde8880 of course you know where the wire is - it's tied to the grenade. The point was that the guy outside pulls on the wire, which pulls the fly-off lever and the grenade detonates. The fact that they don't have much time means that it's all the more likely in real life that he'd just shoot Tommy and walk straight over to the grenade. Thankfully, he doesn't obviously want to kill him as that would kinda ruin the story.
@@OngoGablogian185 did tommy reveal where the grenade was?
@@darthchilde8880 Yes. He literally said he placed it behind a whisky barrel when he was tying his shoe. Alfie's assistant also confirmed it. It was a bluff - but the point is, it didn't make sense.
I love the fact that the way Tommy and Alfie do business are the same way they did there jobs in the war.
Tommy: being a Sergeant Major in a Tunnelling Company was smart, sneaky with laid out plans which normally ends in explosive ways
Alfie: being a veteran who was fighting in the trenches was ruthless, violent, dominate, unpredictable but intelligent
never thought about that, but holy shit that's spot on. Awesome.
Didnt alfie outrank tommy?
@@helpojI don’t think his rank was stated in the show
@@tayvinw it was when cangeretta had came in to his business. He asked his men if alfie fought in the war and one of the men said he was a leutenant or a captain i think
@@helpoj was he commissioned from the ranks?
It’s implied his mother was a refugee and as a gangster he probably would have started our poor and worked his way up.
“Bone mush bone cabinet,” is still my favourite line in this show.
Fuckin biblical
There's always something of the old air of mischief about Alfie around Tommy. He always seems to have just enough awe for Tommy to take the piss out of him a little bit, but he's a sensible and useful enough businessman that Tommy respects him enough to tolerate his cheekiness. This show has great character dynamics.
I could leave of a show made with this two, the sheer amount of talent is amazing.

Loved every scene with these 2 together
British actors are very cool. Hardy is the most unique among British actors. He is neither better nor worse. He's just different. Another level of acting. Tom is an artist, craftsman, creator. He is not playing a character. He creates it. He captivates you every socond while he is in the frame. I adore you ❤
Rule of Thumb: If Tom Hardy's playing the character, you better go look for subtitles.

Great scene, one of many through the series.

The build up of intensity in this scene is impeccable
Two masters of the craft showing why they are considered so

Tom Hardy is continually an amazement. He can either be in the shittest thing I’ve ever seen, or pull of some of the most amazing, incredibly acted characters. Alfie Solomons was one of those incredible moments.
According to polls in 2021 of British viewers, Tom is recognized as the best British male actor of the 21st CENTURY. Second place Connery, third Hopkins, fourth Firth, fifth Craig. I don’t remember further. only ten places. All information is on Google.🔥✌️

Yea it iz was fookin' amazing acting from both of those fooking actors
Loved this show
I've only just realised that given how Alfie talks about performing Stigmata up the nose of an Italian man, then threatening Tommy with pulling the trigger... Tommy gets a nosebleed. Immediatly, Alfie finds this event as a sign of God.
The only reason Alfie accepted to work with the Peakys: religious belief.
Personally I think it was a way to bring Sabini to negotiate his bookies into the stadium, he did it to scare Sabini to him
This is the coolest take
I love Alfie
Thank god for subtitles...

"you crossed the line" scene is as great
Wanted too watch this so long
phenomenal scene
Cillian Murphy could simply not withstand how ridiculously good Tom Hardy, and himself are, and he bled internally.
Accurate
The strangest thing about this scene is that Alfie says he performed the form of stigmata on an Italian, however the Italians were on the Allied side during WW1, which would lead to believe that he was fighting for the Central Powers under Austria/Hungary... Unless it was an Italian who ended up on a different side than Italy, but I don't think it's ever explicitly mentioned which side Alfie actually fought for
Well Alfie’s also an unhinged criminal, so who’s to say he didn’t kill an Italian soldier for the sake of killing him, you know?
@@arthurthedragon1012 also completely plausible and defo fits his character,
however there would need to be a rando Italian there, as Italians would've been fighting in the Alps, (Some of the worst fighting of the war there tbh, people starting avalanches to bury the enemy) whereas the UK didn't touch that theater and were mostly along the French/Belgian corridor, could be an oversight but the showrunners were excellent at covering the history, so I'm doubtful
I do think Alfie's hardened attitude and slight unhingedness could even be attributed to what he saw in the Alps, if it is the case
The Italians were initially on the side of the Central Powers, but the Triple Entente promised them parts of Austria-Hungary that they desired and had claims to, so they switched sides. Part of way the meme for Italians always backstabbing comes from. The other half, of course, being the Italian surrender in 1943 and turning against the Germans (Somewhat)
@@jonathanweaver5310 Yes... This is exactly my point, they were on the ALLIED side, Britain was also on the ALLIED side, hence Alfie would have to be fighting for the Central powers to fight an Italian.
They never joined the war under the Central powers, nor fought the allies at any point, the treaty was with Germany and it was purely defensive, hence why the Italians never joined. It came down to disputes over regions in the Trent Valley which the allies were willing to concede (Which the Italians were upset about after the war, as they felt they earned more from the brutal stalemate in the alps, hence the shift to facism and subsequent switch of sides again, which adds to the meme)
@@jonathanweaver5310 they didn't join the war until the Entente promised them a better deal than the central powers.
