Worked for the same booking agent as DAC back in the 90's. We did 1 show together and he liked us. Our Nashville attorney told us to stay away from David Alan Coe if you wanna go or do anything in this town. I should have David for a job.
Can't believe there's no mention of Townes Van Zandt. I hear a lot of Townes in David Allan's best work, and in his singing, too. Listen to "Field of Stone" and Townes' "If I Needed You" sometime . . .
God bless David Allen I Saw him live about 30 year's ago here in Atlanta at a place called ma mas country show case and there wasn't even standing room dam I got plastered that night they say he's racist bull if he is there Shure we're allot of black people in the audience that night having just as much fun as everyone else I want to say this was in the last part of the 80s .
I open a show for DAC in Cleveland, Ohio, Front Row Theater. What an ass! Had a chimp with him slid his cane between my legs said out of the way I am DAC......They started their first song all the guitar players in the wrong key doing Allman Brothers Ramlin Man. The Plain Dealer really ripped on him and Called it a RAMBLIN" SHOW...my band was the Ramblin Band...they loved us!!
For all you DAC Super Fans, take note of how long his hair is in this interview. That is is own hair back then, he could never get it to grow. Hence the reason he turned to floor length wigs for the stage. For the a few years his Daughter Carla was responsible for his ever growing Wig Wardrobe.
David's favourites include Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Radiohead, Oasis, R.E.M, The Beatles, Metallica, U2, and Aerosmith. I believe his son has a podcast on this subject with those bands.
My grandpa told us that he apparently knew David in the 60s and 70s and apparently was around him enough to see some of his life unfold. And he swears up and down that half of the things David says is bullshit.
