WHAT ARE COMPLEMENTARY COLORS?
These are colors which are across from each other on the color wheel. These colors complement or contrast each other.
CONTRAST
When placed next to each other they increase in contrast. In other words they will both stand out more.
NEUTRALIZER
When mixed together they neutralize each other.
MIX ANYTHING
The reason you should pay attention to complementary colors is because they help a lot when mixing your palette. Not only can they be used to create a complementary color scheme but they will also inform you about how to neutralize any color.
PRACTICAL APPLICATION
Oftentimes the goal isn’t to make gray but just to make a color more subtle. When a color is too vibrant you can typically add a complement in order to settle it down without drastically changing the feeling of the color.
