I love the way she says boutique
Madame Medusa would be the long lost sister of Cruella de Ville
As good as ever, all ages throughout time! Best Walt Disney female villain.
Oh my god she is ace !!!! Far better than Cruella de Vil. The Rescuers is so underated. The character they put into this woman is brilliant ! Shes hilarious
She was crazy as hell! Loved her!!!
Those sound effects for the smoke coming from her car's exhaust pipes. I remember those. XD
i bet medusa did some street racing back in the day to drive like THAT
Geraldine Page was great!
Madame Medusa is too funny. Find it rather funny, when I was a kid, always wanted the villain to win.
Understandable. The villains were often more charismatic, interesting and entertaining than the heroes, but not always.
She's a mix between Madame Mim and Cruella DeVile.
If Milt Kahl based Madame Medusa's design on his ex-wife, it would have been quite interesting to make a comparison of the two.
This was my all time favorite movie as a kid
Love the little animation trick at "shut up!" Slow it down and it looks like she is breaking a joint. It was a trick animator Milt Kahl used a lot in his work.
I remember when Medusa told Penny "What makes you think anyone would want to adopt you?" that made me want to slap her!!!!!!!!!!!!
If you'd rather look in the other direction, a man who looks suspiciously like Snoops appears as a beaten-down, daydreaming husband in the "Rhapsody In Blue" sequence of Fantasia 2000.
Too bad she lost her bra. Medusa needs all the support she can get at this point.
The animation on Medusa. :D Someone in the Disney Studio certainly had a blast thinking up all of those fantastically manic mannerisms.
She looks like a person you could find anywhere, actually
0:39 - it's almost sounds like she's yelling the C**T word
madame medusa used to give me the most awful nightmares when i was a kid O_O
And to think her appearance is based off Milt Kahl's Ex wife XD
I wonder how she feels about this XD
from where i live, my pawn shop in webster does have video game titles. so i'm the pawn shop prince, looking for a princess.
She reminds me of my maths teacher
0:41 CANT YOU CONTROL A LITTLE GIRL.. SHUT OPP!
I always wondered where Devil's Bayou was even supposed to be, wherever it is, it doesn't look like it's anywhere near new york. I haven't seen this since I was very little but I always wondered why they kidnapped Penny from new york to smuggle down to this anonymous location to retrieve a diamond when they could have just as easily kidnapped a local child. Or was there something in this film I missed.
+Luca Alister Penny is a 'local' child as far as Madame Medusa is concerned, and she is an orphan nobody would necessary miss or invest much time in recovering; Devil's Bayou is an entirely fictional place located on a made-up island off into the Atlantic, and I doubt there are many "local" children to be found on that island.
Medusa was the best villain.
This lady's a hirlaous!!
The cars are actually different.
it is funny cause she has crocodiles that is man eating reptiles as pets but at the same time she is afraid of mice sheesh what's up with that
1:21 - Bianca's headscarf is off.
1:22 - Headscarf is on.
+Mythlover B It's loose on her head; seems to be coming on and off with ease. You can see it sort of jumping back over her head as she falls down from the suitcase.
Lol
Why exactly do you not want to discuss it?
Sugar, do you know the meaning of "classy"? Medusa ain't classy.
Eek. Judge Frollo is one of the most boring Disney villains. He has but one facial expression throughout the whole film. One can't expect much from one of the worst Disney films ever produced.
2:07 "OUT OF MY WAY YOU ROAD-HOG!!"
She looks like she's going 75 miles an hour in a 20 MPH zone.
I find it funny how the boost/exhaust sound from her car is the EXACT same as the one of her water jet ski machine she uses to travel through the swamp..Lol
@ 2:06 "Out Of My Way You Road Hog!!!" That line has stuck with me since childhood!
I absolutely love how Medusa is so impatient to leave that she basically storms out without turning off the lights or locking the shop door. Guess she doesn't care enough for her pawn shop if she's willing to leave it vulnerable for looters and shoplifters to clean out the whole joint! ;)
Yeah bet the only things she cares about are her pet alligators and the diamond.
Bottles? What bottles? You caught Penny sending messages....in BOTTLES?! You blundering fool, can't you control a little girl?! SHUT UP!!! I'm taking the next flight down Devil's Bayou!!
I much prefer these older animated Disney movies. Even the newer ones like Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, The Hunch Back of Notre Dame, Hercules, etc.
I don't care for this new CGI stuff.
Madam Medusa looks and acts just like my grandmother lol
One of my very favorite Disney animated features - love this movie!
She scared me so much as a kid. Taught me to never trust strangers! And appreciate your loving family!
love her voice
My childhood on good old VHS 📼📼📼📼📼📼📼📼📼
This brings back many fond childhood memories! I was always fascinated by Madame Medusas voice. Recently I was watching an old horror movie clled Whatever Happened to Aunt Alice, and I heard that voice again. The actress is Grealdine Page, and I highly recommend all of her films, and every show she ever appeared in. Thank you for posting!
Out of my way you "RoadHOG".... I'll use that next time haha
Medusa drives better than I do...
The character of Madame Medusa was not based on Cruella DeVil. When Walt Disney was involved in the development of the story, he suggested the film be about a polar bear named Willie, who had been kidnapped from a city zoo. That's when the writers briefly considered using Cruella DeVil (since she would want the bear for its fur); however, after Walt Disney passed, the writers instead chose Margery Sharp's novel "Miss Bianca," and the main antagonist from this novel, the Diamond Duchess was the inspiration for Madame Medusa. The scene with Madame Medusa driving was not going to be a part of the film; Milt Kahl wanted to include it as a tribute to Marc Davis's work (the animator for Cruella DeVil), which is why Medusa's car looks so similar to DeVil's, yet is never seen again after that scene.
*****
The driving scene was intended to be reminiscent of Cruella, it's a tribute. Did you even read what I wrote? And what about the telephone scene? Cruella used a phone, so what? So did Sykes. Sykes also drove recklessly (and had twin pets, mind you, as did Ursula).
*****
The telephone scenes are completely different. That would be like comparing the hunting scenes in The Fox and the Hound and Bambi.
TaranWanderer2/but the Rescuers was made before Oliver and company so for all we know maybe Sykes driving recklessy was based on Cruella and Medusa.
I really liked the idea of Medusa having been inspired by Cruella and now you've ruined it for me so thanks very much.
Ocfan207
Sorry, but I don't like to spread misconceptions and false, or partly false, legends. Specially when said misconceptions are used as criticisms of the character.
She almost crushed Bianca under the gas.
Medusa reminds me soo much of my mother.
I see she went to the same driving school as Cruella.
This scene is funny :D
REMINDS ME OF THE WITCH IN SWORD AND THE STONE-MADAM MIM
with her purple make up and droopy eyelids
CRAY-ZEE WOMAN DRIVER!!!
I was completely bored watching this as a kid. Only now I can appreciate the animation.
Madame Medusa + Cruella De Vil + Nascar= GET THE HELL OUT!!!!!!!
She's got a typical french look. Most french women look like her.
Wow, if the Blu Ray is like this clip or even better, it will be a great addition to any animation/Disney fanatic's collection!
*oh no..the bra string!!! xD* *lol*
*they should make "Madam Medusa's" Ride in DL* ...
That's what I always thought ! And she gave ispiration for Ursula too.
Neither "ain't" you. Madame Medusa speaks in a sophisticated manner.
@ 02:07 "out of my way you road hog" LOL!!!
I remember that the woman he is basing it off's name was Phyllis. She was the head of the Ink & Paint Department at Disney. Heard she got fired for coming to work drunk and her fiery temper (though Kahl was like that as well). It was like fire and oil between those two. There is a picture floating around of the two of them fishing in England...and she is wearing Medusa-style rubber boots! Wish Floyd Norman Deja could confirm this.
Madame Medusa and Cruella De Vil are two of the funniest Disney villains! Along with Hades and Captain Hook. They're all such hot heads, it's hilarious.
Jafar, Maleficent, Ursula, Scar, Lady Tremaine, the Queen (Snow White), Shan Yu, Governor Ratcliffe and Frollo don't have any dorky, funny moments like Cruella, Medusa, Hades and Captain Hook do. Those four were used as comic relief for sure.
I sure hope she gets a ticket for driving so recklessly
OUT OF MY WAY YOU ROAD HOG!!!! XD
Amen! I tell people this all the time. Cruella has a boxy, very VERY long coupe with a much more aggressive design and a killer engine. Medusa has a still long sedan but with a less "over the top" design and an obviously weak engine. They do drive very similarly, though.
I knew these lines by heart (had the vinyl LP)
Madame Medusa is a classy lady, just a bit eccentric and theatrical in her manner. :)
Hey, do you think you could upload the escape scene this way?
thats so weird and true lol thank you XD i didnt know that
1:53 starting stepping on accelerator
Yes Cruella has animal cruelty but Medusa has the endangerment of a minor with a deadly weapon...So I think Medusa is the baddest of all the non magical Disney Baddies too bad she doesn't get more credit she a a terrific Villain :D Kind of reminds me of Carol Burnett as Miss Hannigan in the original Annie from 1982
Mr. Kahl might disagree XD
@TaranWanderer2 Hey! When would you say that "The Rescuers" actually takes place? ;) :D
I would say it takes its inspiration from the period in which it was developed, so late 60s/early 70s. Only the New York setting shows more specific time-specific elements; the rest is far more ambiguous.
you wouldn't say the '20s? well. actually, it couldn't be the '20s, because the United Nations building is featured, so it *must* be after 1945; but, then, the cars look older than '60s/'70s cars.
@TaranWanderer2 Hey! If the place that she goes to isn't in Louisiana, then where is it? I'll accept "a foreign country!" But, "the Atlantis" isn't gonna do it for me. My next question would be regarding her approximate age. ;) :D Thanks! ;) :D
what was that thing that Bernard step on when he said come on in the suit case
In terms of sharpness, artifacts and grain the Blu-ray should definitely improve upon this video, but in terms of color, this is what it should aim for, replacing the unappealing, murky "cool" color seen on the DVD and VHS releases.
Fast and Furious: New York
It's not hate, just opinion.
You're trying to make a case out of something that people have been aware of for years. Second, Madame Medusa has tons of traits missing from both of those characters. Not to mention that similar cases can be made for other Disney villains. Where did much of Ursula come from if it was not Medusa?
médusa elle est folle au volant de sa voiture pire que cruella d'enfer
0:07 How the hell does she produce that sound?
there is a red thing, that bernard hops on when he drops down. what is that? >< I have been wodnering for yeaaaars XDD
+Hunlover123601 It's a sponge, I believe. I'm not sure what its exact purpose is. Maybe to clean up after minor ink spills or stains.
Because that discussion does not belong here.
Yes, and all of that with one facial expression and no dynamic personality what-so-ever. And the funny thing is that we're expected to believe that Quasimodo grew up with a heart of gold being raised by him? Please. Anyway, I don't want a discussion on "Hunchback" here.
Why the hate, man?
Anyone know what make of Car Medusa has?
Ocfan207 It's a generic convertible design. It doesn't have a particular 'make.'
TaranWanderer2 which is a shame for me since I'm like obsessed with car makes.
+Tristan Laferriere And clearly she doesn't care much about her immensely rare and valuable car considering she's driving like a lunatic! XD
WolfieMcMuffin She should be greatful to have a car, she looked like a spoilt brat driving like a dodo!
@ 00:39 slender man
OK people, get your barfbags out for what I'm about to say. You got em? You got em? OK, just put under you mouths, alright, here we go. 1, 2, 3........*inhales deeply* I think Madame Medusa is kinda sexy.
There is NO woman alive who packs a bag that fast!
