I'm a Hot Rod / Rodimus collector, and ust picked up Takara MP-09 - and gotta say its a classic. Notorious QC issues aside its fantastic and definetlfy my fav.
While mp28 is a good figure i feel like he could've potentially benefited more from maybe having a fake chest or potentially a chest that splits to give a more rounded look that hotrod had in the film and cartoon as well as maybe reducing the backpack kibble and moving some of it to the back of the legs or arms
Like I tried to say just before we got cut off - you did an amazing job, Sixo...amazing!!! (Man, you really know that you're getting older when you start identifying with Kup more than you do with Hot Rod...hope you get a chance to profile the Autobots' resident Old-Timer in this series sometime soon as well, yes?!).
As someone who likes Transformers and knew the franchise all my life but was never a huge fan, this was a very helpful video. I plan on acquiring some of the designs I loved from the '86 movie (which I happened to rewatch this month after decades of not doing so...I had a blast) in toy form and this project of yours is very helpful for a beginner like me. These toys are usually too expensive considering the quality control isn't always on point so yeah, this was really useful. I guess I'm in the minority that likes Hot Rod, but maybe that's why I already knew he was supposed to replace Optimus Prime so I didn't have to go through that horrible trauma of finding out IN the movie. I also liked minor characters like Blur but I guess he's much more obscure since there's less action figures of him.
Huh. Neat. Between the Hot Rod mode of MP09 Rodimus Prime, the MP28 Hot Rod, the MP40 Targetmaster Hot Rod, and FansToys FT17 Hoodlum, I went with MP40. The robot mode is definitely an afterthought compared to the super accurate vehicle mode due to the upper body & backpack, but it's one of my favorites in my collection. Besides, the transformation is still basically the G1 toy with extra steps.
Hmm. Not sure who to suggest you do next. Bumblebee would be high on the list, but only if you can get one of the Toyworld copies to compare to the official offerings. As for this vid, I own MP-09, MP-28, and Fans Toys Hoodlum. I'd rate MP-28 at the very bottom of that list, in fact he just sits in car mode on my display, one of the few I have multiple copies of to begin with. MP-09 is my Rodimus Prime, Hoodlum is Hot Rod. I just can't stand that flat square chest on MP-28. Looks like an MP that would've been released back in 2012 alongside Sideswipe and the first generation carbots. Very accurate vehicle form, sacrificing robot proportions to make it work. To each their own though.
Great vid. My biggest bugbears with the figure are the gaps between the shoulders and chest. It looks like the plastic has cracked and is very unsightly.
While I do love how Targetmaster MP Hot Rod looks, I feel it was a missed opportunity to do a toy based release, red instead of magenta and with red boots and sticker like tampos, like MP Artfire. As for the mould itself, I really love it, but I wish some of the mass from the backpack could have ended on his legs as those feel too light...maybe diecast feet could have helped balance him better?
Love your second episode. Hot rod was my favorite character shown in the 86 movie. I did have the Takara MP-28 as my Hot Rod in my collection, but did change it to the FansToys Hoodlum. I got lucky and didn’t have the paint chipping issue with mine, but I can understand why folks didn’t like him. And the articulation isn’t great. But I love him anyway. Can’t wait to see your next video! Please keep them coming!
Simplemente genial. Tu blog es asombroso y ahora no digamos tus videos. Genial que compares dos piezas tan importantes. Buenas sugerencias para que cada quién tome su decisión final. Felicitaciones
I got this guy a few months back based on this videos recommendation and he's become my go to Hotrod overall. Granted, I only have 4. Just love fiddling with the guy and posing him up. Somehow I only paid just under £40 for him. Was worried I'd be receiving a KO but the seller had spotless feedback and sure enough it was the real thing. So yeah, cheers for the recommendation.
Hot rod is my favourite character besides Cliffjumper and Starscream because they're very good characters in my opinion and I love animation and the story arc which is awesome.
Great video! It’s still Hoodlum for me as MP-26 /40 looks like he’s wearing a cardboard shirt. But the transformation and the shoulders are better for the MP compared to the FansToys 😃
@@SixoTF Same reason I sold mine. I did like how it looked, but I didn't like how shaky it felt, the head articulation bothered me also. Honeslty, I didn't think it was that much better than the MP. I think SS86 is better than most. I would love to see someone perfect this figure. Looking at you Transform Element......
It’s nice to see someone who agrees with me on the MP28 version of Hot Rod. This was the toy that got me into collecting Transformers. Absolutely love him!
Now do the hard ones. I am still trying to find a good MP Cliffjumper. Or any of the G1 minibots like Huffer, Gears or Brawn. I mean Bumblebee has gotten 2 MPs already!
I love mp hot rod. I was lucky enough to take advantage of the hate a lot of collectors had for it and pick up a genuine one for a ridiculously low price. I thought I wouldn't like it as much as I do but found myself constantly grabbing it out of my display to pose/mess with and still to this day have a lot of fun with it which is something I can't say about most of the mps(official and 3p) in my collection that are held in much higher regard.
Pls make one video of the seekers or the coneheads more specifically.... I’m not sure if the maketoys are ever going to be real eased but there is also the toyworld version and the yes models ones....and the official which I don’t even consider Masterpieces haha
Maketoys Endgame (Dirge) is available to buy now, and the rest of the coneheads are up for pre-order on Kapow. They come with filler pieces for the wings of the seekers if you picked them up too :)
Amar Samra yeah I know I got endgmame....but there have been many rumors wether the other two are gonna come out or not.....so I’d like to know which other options are available
The proportion and backpack issues stand out so much more in the modern day after kingdom Rodimus, which blows even these masterpieces out of the water in terms of proportion and face sculpt. Here’s to hoping takara takes another shot at the character with the new and improved engineering and an easier to look at face
MP-28 definitely has terrible proportions. Overly skinny legs, an overly long chest, overly big arms and broad shoulders. When you have to pose a figure right to hide how bad he looks, you shouldn't be defending it
MP-26 has a fun transformation and lovely alt mode, but that bread slice of a torso is unforgivable. Personally I prefer SS86 now.

For fun I would like to see Optimus Prime. Because that would be a long video and the TE01 vs MSLoF vs MP-44 is always a classic!
dacamperX oh we will definitely do Optimus one day soon!

mp-28 is one of those figures that look better in hand than in pictures.
shockwave next!
eyescovered Had a few votes for Shockwave now!

Had my fantoys version n mp28...hot rod is the best!
I would love to see an episode on Arcee.... That being said I suppose you’ll probably wait until the official MP gets released. Thanks for the video!

You probably did get a KO
Grimlock and the rest of the Dinobots in general. I’m trying to figure out which one to get cuz they all look awesome.
Kobayashi Maru Good call!
Good luck try to get the fans toys ones 😂
Gigapower has solid G1 dinobot team.
Masterpiece Hound, or Shockwave. Thanks for the fun videos!
Eddy Misael Castillo Oooh good ideas! Thanks!!
I'm giving it to mp-9 he's perfect we'll not perfect 🙌🏾
Now that the recent '86 Studio Series of Hot Rod and Rodimus Prime have been released, I bet these will be the preferred choice by many.
Hot rod is my favourite character besides Cliffjumper and Starscream because they're very good characters in my opinion and I love animation and the story arc which is awesome.
Studio Series 86 Hot Rod is the answer
That's not in Masterpiece scale or style though.
I cant wait to see what's next
Agree. I like Mp Hot rod. He have very good articulation, easy to transform and perfect face. Bumblebee will be my choose for your Next Video.
My favorite is Dx9 Carry, but that's more Rodimus than Hot Rod.
Great video! It’s still Hoodlum for me as MP-26 /40 looks like he’s wearing a cardboard shirt. But the transformation and the shoulders are better for the MP compared to the FansToys 😃
espinasse1984 thanks! Yeah Hoodlum looks great to the eye, I just didn’t enjoy it in hand so much.

Sky lynx he is my favorite and I want to see which ones I should look at to buy an mp style sky lynx for myself
Christopher Brown Hmm, could be fun!
Commander Modesty is one my favorites and I really hope another company gives it a go like Fans Hobby, X Transbots or DX9.
@@Xystus85 here's hoping

LS Greger All good suggestions! It’s likely to be a Decepticon next but a Minibot sounds like fun.
Great job! 👏👏👏 I would like you to do the same thing to: MP Bruticus, MP Clifjumper or MP Cosmos please.
Exvilion Baster Bruticus could be fun! All good ideas! And thanks.
@@SixoTF You're welcome :)

If anything MP-09 is the hated one. The only "hate" MP-28 gets is the objectively bad robot mode proportions
Id say Tarn but I think MMC nailed him with Kultur, so im gonna go with my only actual MP figure - the best boy, Wheeljack
FT needs to redo Hoodlum bad
I agree.
Mariano Chacon great minds.

Awesome live stream
Aj Frye -Sena thanks!
Love the series! How does the joint strength on MP-40 compare to MP-28?
Yury Kovalev thanks! Joint strength on 40 is fine on my copy - maybe a bit tighter?
All the official hot rods have skinnier legs than mo farah. I'll stick with hoodlum. Cheers.
