  • In this episode I head out to a tiny river that holds a few fish still up for a bite in the cold weather. Despite the low temperatures I manages to trot in a few good looking swims and get into a few fish include some feisty grayling and a hungry trout.

    Great video, thanks very much. Is there any chance of a run through of the tackle used and line set-up? Cheers 👍

      Thanks! Nothing too fancy in this one, 11 foot float rod, centre pin with 4.4lb mainline and a stick float. I did a youtube short video on how I rig my stick floats so check that out for exact details.

    Nice grayling. The sandy run you passed by once produced several 3-4" grayling on fly for me and I've occasionally spooked the odd bigger fish there.

      I often do fish it but without much luck, it looks good as the upstream and downstream are fast runs so makes sense it's a fish holding spot. Just never produced for me!

    Another nice video, thanks for your efforts! That trout was a rainbow trout escapee from somewhere!

      Thanks glad you enjoyed. I thought it might be a hybrid as it was quite dark on top and had brownie spots, but obviously the big rainbow stripe!

      @@riverfossfishing They're from the trout farm further up stream. I've had bigger than that and lost even bigger ones. I've seen a picture of a double taken by a pike angler.

      That's the place! I've had brown trout before but never rainbow. I wonder if the bigger ones are in the deeper parts down stream of where I tend to fish.

      @@riverfossfishing There was. I had a grayling stolen by one below the footbridge.

      Cheers pal. I don't think they are fished for a great deal in this little river. But there are a few nice fish in there!

    Nice video, made me wonder if a rainbow trout would be protected by season since they're invasive? Have a nice Christmas anyway!

      Wondered this also, someone told me there was a trout farm somewhere on the river that they escaped from. I did wonder if this was a hybrid? Merry Christmas!

      Hi
      Which rod do you use ?
      Cheers

    • @riverfossfishing
      @riverfossfishing  Před 2 lety

      This is a Matt hayes rod I picked up from a yard sale, no idea of the actual model I'm afraid. I like it for this work as its 11 foot and has quite a soft tip for playing smaller fish but still enough backbone to get a good hook set on grayling and trout.

      I often fish in quiet rivers. I believe it was a rainbow.
