A really good video that honestly perfectly sums up a lot of how ive been feeling about rust. 'Chaotic wasteland to centralised economy' is exactly the way to describe it
Speak for yourself. I started rust this week and got fucked over by people pushing me out of recyclers and stealing my loot. 10 seconds later I stole his teammates horse, bargained my scrap back for the horse, took that shit and ran away with the horse as well. Getting fucked over at the safe zone was not something I expected but glad it is possible XD
“Somewhere out there, someone spawned on the beach for the very first time, and, I’m jealous”. Ngl this sentence almost made me cry, just being reminded of all the memories that games have given me over the years, the first game I ever played, the games I waited in excitement for the release of, and others. It reminds me of times when I wouldn’t get so raged about simple things and I could see fun in games and not just see a grind for hours in end in hopes that one day I will have the best gear in that game and maybe then it will be fun. It makes me want to turn back time as much as I could just to have a moment where I’m sitting down about to turn on a brand new console and experience gaming for the first time. Thank you for this amazing video and keep up the good content.
This is one of those rust videos that hits home. I did all these antics as a solo throughout the years since 2016, it was a grand time. The friends coming and going was part of the process but remembering now is a tad more emotional with your touching video.
I'd never forget how "Safe Zones" weren't completlely safe and how broken things were. I honestly prefered the hard learning curve the game had, it made things "Intrestresting" i miss the days where you had to watch your own back, do your own shady way of getting to the top, making peoples day go from good to bad and bad to worst. But what i think i miss most is the gamble you'd take on with the workbenches, hoping to get a top tier bp only to end up with renforced bars. If i could play Rust 2019 again that would endless fun for all.
If i ever won the lottery id split it with the guys i have been playing rust with since 2014. We all grew up and got responsibilities that prevents us from playing more than 1 or 2 wipes together a year. We like to say we are retired but i hope there will be a time again where its just me and the bros hardcore gaming without a care in the world. What a ride rust is, if only i could go back and do it all again...
The "after" segment was so heartwarming. It really makes me realize that video games are such a big impact on so many of us. Just thinking about all friends i've left behind as I jumped around to all of the new games makes me sad..
A phenomenal work of art, nothing short of what Dyl has done in the past. The cinematography, and the edits, and the music, perfection. Rust has one the goofyiest communities, thats why I love it. Keep up the good work! (And i hope to see you at outpost)
This has got to be one of the best Rust videos. Seeing all the clips of older Rust was crazy and was such a throwback. Thank you for the great video dyldip, keep it up and you'll get huge in no time man.
this is the best rust video i have ever watched. literally made me nostalgic and emotional, this is what i have been trying to explain to my friends who just got the game and are like why dont you play anymore.. The game is just.. not what it used to be. "from a chaotic wasteland to a centralized economy overnight"
this is the video that described how i fell for so many reasons i enjoyed every single aspect of the game before they made it "easy" meeting new people making friends and going thru my ruts journey it was fun while it lasted and i hope new player can get as much memories and fun times as rust can give with that i wish you and everyone else luck and fun for they upcoming jorneys :D
Being a legacy player from 2013-14 this video made me figure out what I meant when I told myself the game is too different to enjoy. My last full dedicated wipe was in 2019 and it was a blast, will miss old rust.
Ending almost made me cry ngl. It was the last game i truly discovered, the last game my little brother would play with me. Now it's different, which is necessary for growth. But none of my friends play it, it feels different.. 5,000 of the best hours of my life. Here's to the next game, guys 🍻
Wait awhile and you and your friends may find it refreshing again, be it in 1 year 2 years. At least you acknowledge change is necessary. Dyl is akin to a guy complaining about a new dota 2 patch. Dota 2 relies on the core systems and intricacies constantly changing for better or worse or it just gets boring.
Ending hits hard. We've all laughed, cried and argued with friends while playing games, only to lose them once the journey of that game came to an end.
Rust peaked in 2017 before the added the outpost, the p2w DLCs, when people were less knowledgeable, when Ramsey were still uploading, the P2 roams, checking your privilege, screaming while down... There were a lot less cheaters, and the game was still about survival. I really miss those times
That's absolutely amazing 🎉 Those cinematic scenes and speech deserves to be able on the top of CZcams! We had great time in the past of this game but now you don't even have to do something for surviving. Just go to the outpost and buy everything 😢
I got into Rust late 2017 - early 2018, and I remember my friend who had played it since its alpha telling me all these little tips and tricks, it made the game feel so rewarding to learn. Part of me wishes Rust never became mainstream, but at the same time Im happy for Facepunches success
I haven't really played Rust since early 2020. It's a completely different beast now and is a far cry from the game I fell in love with. I still get drops and hop on for wipe day once in a while but it can't hold me like it used to. We had a good run.
Didn't expect to feel the feels from a rust video. I have recently experienced the decay of a group i used to play with, sad to see things go, but happy for the times we had.
holy shit im not even 1 minute in and the editing is crazy, you are extremely talented and the level of hardwork this took is noticeable. props my guy. you are a fucking legend.
Oh man, I haven't been able to play Rust ever but I must've seen over 10,000 clips of it at this point and this clip is definitely up there as one of the best.
This video was absolutely FABULOUS! I connected with how and why you talk about rust. Over my 4000 hours since December of 2019 I felt something was being stripped away from the game I love playing. It felt like the longer I played the less I got to have fun. I lost a part of me when I quit the game, all the fun and lust for adventure. I really do believe that even tho there where some imperfections with the game back in 2019-2020 (such as: stuttering mid fight or the occasional game crash) the game was enjoyable. I’m saddened for what rust has become and what directions the devs took. But I’m excited to see what the games future will bring. Then maybe if they somehow work back in the feeling and need for adventure, I’ll pick back up my rock and torch. Great love to the creator of this video! It was amazing to watch!
Damn this video brings back so many memories, been playing since 2015. Definitely not the game it used to be, before the teams system, the sash and before bandit camp was so safe, social interaction and trust was such a huge aspect of the game. Now days when I hop on it feels more like call of duty. Oh well nothing lasts forever, hope one day rust can return to it's roots and kids can experience the same kind of rust I did.
i started playing rust when it first came out, played on and off over the years. this video hit the nostalgia button for sure. the best part is that i have a bunch of friends that just bought it for the first time. ive been playing with them and teaching them the ins and out and it reminds me of the good ole days. brings a tear to my eye
The combat update was the final blow to my rust career. I had a good run, thousands of hours that I’ll never regret or forget. I made friends that i still talk to year later. We grinded and learned arguably one of the hardest most in depth games and mastered it. We ran servers it truly was the best game in the world. I’d pay a ton of money to go back to one of those wipes. But sadly rust is dead to me now. The skill gap truly killed it for me. Nobody should be able to pick up a AK and beam me with 2 hrs.
Thats how old rust used to be buddy and it was an amazing game. A slight rng element is healthy for games. Adding learned spray was the dumbest thing they did. When they put it back to where it was it was too little too late
Damn this took me back. I nearly did everything in this video, well done! They took Bandit and it's Safezone properties from us, but now It's time for a new Golden Age >:) Muahahaha...
I havent played rust for years, grew up with legacy and a bit of rust after legacy for a couple hundred hours. This video went way too hard than I was imagining. Awesome video.
bro… you popped on my fyp and i don’t regret a second watching this vid, all of this nostalgia that’s i get from watching this, all the memories of old rust.. excellent video man, so sad rust had to go the way it did with the updates..
Man this one hit hard. Been gaming on PC since it was really a thing and up until a couple years ago I would have told you that, despite the bugs and rough around the edges nature of the game, Rust was far and away the best game I had ever played. To think a short 2 years later it turn in to a game that I can't even stand to play for a day.. Ugh. RIP to Rust, RIP to all the OGs that made the game so fun.
Quality video and cinematics. It beautifully encapsulated how the feeling and rush you get from Rust changed overtime from the creators making the base game streamlined and more forgiving. It hits close to home for me.
one of the most well edited and well paced rust videos i've seen!!! Really nice not to spend 40 minutes on a video like this. Great job. That must've been crazy to cut down so much content. :)
Man... almost same thing happend to me, a had my own strats, mistakes and experience, but it all faded with new updates. and that hurts. I miss old recoil, graphics and atmosphere, of that hard, but fun Rust. My best stories are from end 2019/2020, and that journey was... great. I should thank u for that nostalgia, u gave me. So, thank u. Really.
I used to have a group of 2-3 friends that would always be down to play rust for hours on end, but after several updates, the game changed for the worse, minicopter/boat changes only catered to clans/ big groups, like many updates. Nowadays myself nor those same friends even touch it, its nowhere near the same game that it was years ago and its just tragic what its come to, I would give up anything just to relive half of those amazing memories on this game and I wish the devs would see the vision and see what they're doing wrong, it feels like the game we all loved is gone now but you really captured the feeling of the glory days and got me emotional with your editing, so keep up the good work.
Heart warming video of Rust history, from one individual (group) perspective. Quality of story, editing and music in level of best rust video makers. Kudos.
I don't think I've seen a better video about rust and what it used to be. Also, I do feel you on your friends not wanting to play anymore, out of the 200 steam friends I met through the early days of rust, only about 5 of them still boot up the game. They certainly made the game easier and simpler, but in doing so, it traded that iconicism of the game. It was the brutal nature that made it so fun. The indefinite uphill struggle with a rush of dopamine every time you made big progress that kept you coming back. now, like all of those friends I have on Steam and elsewhere, I, too, have finally stopped playing it as it's rust in name only and nothing more. Side note: It also doesn't help when the devs seemingly refuse to address both individuals and creators about the state of the game. And at best, applying a bandaid fix to a feature that should be reworked or removed entirely. As an og player, it really feels like we're just mold, and facepunch can't scrape it all off.
if you stopped playing rust because you cannot camp and kill people going in and out of the safe zone then i guess this game just wasnt for you at the end of the day
Well I mean, yea people dont enjoy a PVP game that isnt based on PVP but instead on the hoaring of virtual loot and having a 20 man army. Not really fun to play a game that has 0 meaning outside of time input
Duuuude this video was awesome! Honestly, crazy. I’ve only been playing rust for 2 years now, so I didn’t experience the days you were talking about but honestly, it still FEELS like I can relate. Very, very good video indeed.
This is one of the best rust videos ive seen that sums up everything ive been feeling about the game atm. In my opinion its stale and the meta is very solved and figured out so we all do the same thing every wipe and it gets repetitive. Awesome video man❤
Man what a good video, maybe one of the best rust videos, or even videos, I've seen in a while. Totally different than what usually comes out of the community, and it hits its mark. Great music choice as well, good job!

Wow, love the edits! Very good video
dude the end and this entire video just hit so hard probably the most underrated rust youtuber and underrated editor bro
Thanks Zuck, but I’m still not joining Facebook Gaming
