He's not happy, the animators just did a kinda bad job with his face. He meant to push Mya, but he didn't mean to push her off the roof.

I just thought of 2 possible theories for the original Hello Neighbor game.
1: This is probably the easiest thing to guess, but what if the neighbor put Aaron in the basement? That's what you see at the begining.
2: What if you play as Aaron and are looking for forgiveness? What if you are checking on dad (the Neighbor) to make sure he's handling things well and he kidnapped someone to replace Mya? What if you (Aaron) were taken away/left because you killed Mya, so dad looked for a "replacement?" You break in so you can rescue the child. You feel obligated to because you caused this. Dad hates you for killing Mya and possibly, and irrationally, blames you for mom's death too. That's why he's always so angry when chasing you. That's why he doesn't want you anywhere near the basement where "new Mya" is. He also wants to make sure you pay for what you did. You've been disowned, and rightfully so. Dad is broken from losing 2, and essentially 3, of his family within the timespan of a few days, if that.
Edit: I didn't know you played as Nicky Roth in the original, but that could still be Aaron. Think about it, would you really keep your name the same? Would you really want to be known as the man who killed his sister? That would also explain why the house has very few aditions here, but is massive in the main game.
I had the same theory kinda, about being the son. I heard his name but how do you know its nicky roth. I thought the game was about the son trying to escape his past and his mistakes which is why he came back years later to confront them which was the reason for tje shadow following him as an adult.
However I heard there is a book out now. I believe they were made after the game but I read the description of thw book and it says nicky roth and are in Patterson (I think thats his name) were friends and nicky is truing to fins out what happened to him. Who knows though haha

This trailer is the best animated scene I have ever seen that is related to Hello Neighbor.
It's sad how it looks like they always go backwards and cancel things, such as:
Alpha 2: There actually is a full sized basement in Alpha 2, but the game ends before you can go there.
Alpha 4 or one of the betas: There is a well animated cutscene in the files that was supposed to be at the end that showed quite a lot of lore, but they cancelled it.
HN Hide and Seek: It looked like they were planning to have the wife's face shown in the game, but cancelled it, because why otherwise would it be seen in the trailer?

Maybe the crow delayed Mya's fall just enough to make it so she just went into a coma or got knocked out. You know what let's just go with that. Maybe Aaron is the your character in the original game of hello neighbor and his anger turned into the black shadow. Aaron could be the black shadow trying to change the way your life goes so it doesn't end up as bad.

The trailer represents the neighbor slowly going insane to when he was gonna get revenge.
A theory is that the player (you) is actually Erin (Or Eren), Like Erin getting revenge. Like he apoligizes to his sister by accidentaly pushing her off.
I still dont know why erin would get revenge on his father. But i think its because he got maybe into an argument with dad, thinking it was all dads fault that his sister fell off.
That is all wrong. The character we play as in hello neighbor is Nicky. The person in the basement is Aaron (you called him Erin) and the reason Aaron is in the basement is because Theodore (Mr. Peterson/ The Neighbor) wants to keep the member of his family safe. Also, Aaron actually doesn't mind being locked in the basement by his Dad. One last thing, how could Aaron say sorry to his sister who is dead?
