- Stormy morning in New Orleans and the weather actually worsened while on the ground in MSY. Enough time for a snack and it’s back on the same acft I flew in on. Different flight number as I take this MAX 8 over to Houston Hobby Airport. This was an east departure and right turn out over the lake and city but any and all views were foiled by cloud cover and storms.

Date: April 17, 2021
Airport: Louis Armstrong New Orleans Int’l Airport
Airline: Southwest Airlines
Flight: WN859
Route: MSY-HOU
Acft: Boeing 737 MAX 8
Reg: N8728Q
Seat: 6A
It’s breathtaking to takeoff on a rainy day but then ascend through the clouds when it all of the sudden becomes sunny!😎
Breaking out of clouds is one of my favorite flying experiences.
I feel the same way.
Yes I too thought it was so cool:-)
It's like they suddenly arrived on a different planet.
@@tonyrodd6348 That’s what I was thinking the first time it happened to me!
I have flown 200 times or more in my life, from cessna 150 to a C5A Galaxy and everything in between. Also 166 skydives. This kind of view never gets old, what a great start to this flight. it gave me chills just watching it. It also looked very smooth, meaning not a lot of turbulence.
Southwest airlines is my favorite airlines I love ❤️ Southwest airlines a lot ♥️ ❤️
Not too sure how well the dark humor went over with nervous passengers.
I’ve heard that version of the briefing 20-30 times over the last few years. It’s usually met with laughter… which to me would somewhat ease any tense nerves.
The pilot was probably furious he had to do a visual approach into this airport because the ILS was broken.
Nothing can be more satisfying than the sound of a Southwest Boeing 737 Max 8 at take off especially on board. Hearing the CFM LEAP 1 B engines at full power gives me goosebumps.
thanks for sharing, the 2 guys in the front have the best job, and office view in the world, love the 737
That Max8 has a climb rate!
Very nice take off sound!
I love flying across the clouds. ❤
Dang. I would have liked to see the view on a sunny day. But I like flying into the cloud deck and coming out to the sun on top. Thx for posting.
Every single time I've departed MSY and gone to the west there's been cloud cover.
Love these videos! Keep up the great work!
Thanks! Will do my best.
Just recently flew on one of Southwests new max 8s definitely a quieter takeoff and a much improved cabin experience with the awesome new interior cabin lighting also better aerodynamics because of the upper and lower winglets.
I like the music when parked and the mood lighting is even in the lavatories. The only thing I dislike is how long the engine start sequence is.
@@AListFlierKris This is the same on the Neos. Doesn`t mather if it is the GTF or the Leap, both need approx. double time to start than the old V2500 or the CFM56.
I did not fly on the Max until now, but the Neos with the GTF are extremely silent. The Neos with the Leap are much more loud during take off with and awful noise like at the dentist. From your video I think the Max has the same screaming noise, even the Leaps have a bit different power rating and engine design.
@@timoswindowseat7045 yup and yup. cold starting isn't as bad, but if you're in a turnaround after a flight, the motoring phase takes even longer. At some stations now, provided there's enough taxi time SWA will start #2 and begin the taxi then start #1 while moving. The LEAP (1b at least, I've no familiarity with the 1a) has an overall lower maximum operating RPM. The 1b, as similar to the cfm56-7b has a similar scream/buzzsaw noise from the IDG at high power settings. it just not quite as harsh as the cfm56, in my opinion.
@@AListFlierKris BTW, you ever fly something else than the 737 and SWA?🤣🤣
Yeah, but even the cold start takes much longer than the start from the old CFM 56. I thought that this thermal problem exist only on the GTF but seems the Leap has some sort of same issues.
@@timoswindowseat7045 currently I don’t. SWA is the only one who conveniently flies to where I travel to the most which is Long Beach. I’ve been on other carrier and acft when I was younger (delta & northwest on the DC-9, the rest of the MD-80 family, 727. 757, Saab 340, and once on the L-1011.) I do want to get on a delta 717 before they’re gone and eventually hop on a 777 & 787.
that was pretty smooth considering how stormy it looked
That is so smooth😳
I hope to have a flight attendant like the guy in this video. This guy is awesome!! 😂😂
I had this same flight crew for two flights. Dallas to New Orleans (prior for this video) and then this flight to Houston. When we landed in Houston he made a joke about changing the brakes on the plane. Coincidentally enough he was working a flight I was on a couple weeks later also, from Dallas to Ft. Lauderdale.
Absolutely amazing! Liked and subbed keep it up
Excellent video!
I was in LA at the time and it was nice and sunny over there. Was probably in traffic on the way to a church service in Lancaster.
Its back !!😎
That seem to be smooth
Yes! Can you do please Austin Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) - Takeoff Moon Night.
*great footage!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!*
I pray that we'll have good weather for July i hate storms when we go to Atlanta in July
Love the Max 8, one of the best jets to fly on....
Yeah I flew on 4 Southwest Maxes last month. I like the larger windows, but they still cram too many seats in there. 3-4 hours is about my limit. Otherwise they are a great plane to fly.
Imagine how much smaller the seats are on the AA MAX8. For an economy seat on a 737 SWA have about the most generous room to squirm.
this is the best!
9:17 omg. didn't know the max 8 could make that buzzing sound
I absolutely love that sound at climb power.
Actually it is about the most quiet airplane I have flown on. I did not notice the buzzing sound when I flew on the MAX. I always sit in the first couple rows, so maybe it can be heard from further back in the plane.
About 25 seconds from thrust until rotation. 🐎 power. NO to Houston is only about 400 miles by ground. I'd imagine it was just an arc flight. As soon as you reach max altitude you start right back down. I remember DFW to Jackson Mississippi was only 54 minutes. About the same distance as this flight.
Awesome take off!! Not so great weather though
Nothing quite like that spot at about 12:51 where you emerge from the pea soup to see blue sky!
That is always one of my most favorite moments of an overcast takeoff!
We went through something like this this past summer on the way the Toronto Airport To get to The coast of Newfoundland believe me there was so many delays because of the storms or covid or something.
I’m shocked at what a completely smooth takeoff and ascent this one. Usually when there’s rain and clouds there’s almost always turbulence.
Usually but not always. It's all about wind speed and direction, you can have rainy days with no wind for long times, but usually there is some turbulence in clouds.
Ahhhh New Orleans I miss home 🏡
Went to visited New Orleans in December 2021 at my first time.
After 2 years i could give you the 1k like :)
imagine what wilbour and orville wright would think if they could be amongst the passengers on that plane . .. . .
The pride they would have would be impossible to contain.
Edit And WRIGHTfully so.
Orville lived until 1948. He got to see early jets fly, though not jet airliners.
You took off from rwy 02 (north) and looks like you turned left (west) over the lake towards HOU. :)
Correct, it was rwy 02. When traveling E-W I tend to divide the compass into two halves since I'm rarely anywhere with a direct N or S takeoff/landing. Thank you for alerting me to the fact I forgot my left from my right! 🤣 Lesson there being, after a day of traveling I should sleep before editing video and writing descriptions.
I just realized that measuring the angle of the rain water flowing past the window on climb out can give you the AOA. Does this seem correct?
Sounds good to me. We may be wrong though.
That flight attendant could work the Jungle Cruise at Disneyland. He was good.
Does the angle of attack diminish or get corrected at 06:14 ?
It got diminished MCAS wouldnt activate at that AOA it would only correct at greater AOAs the Aircraft was not in immediate danger
Question for you and others that do these window vids, how do you have camera or phone cam so steady? You got some kind of phone clamp that you clamp to passenger seat?
You can do it both ways. sometime I hold the camera freehand but often I use a small suction clamp on the inner window as I'm also taking stills with another device. I know a couple of channels who do it all freehand and it takes a lot of practice and eventually muscle memory to keep it steady. Image stabilization in the camera helps a slight bit. If you've ever watched any of Skyline Productions @sla31 videos, he does them all completely freehand and they are very impressive!
@@AListFlierKrishad a flight crew tell me to remove my camera from window for safety reasons and blocking other passengers views.
One minute you are taxing to the runway and the next minute you are going so fast in minutes you are up in the sky
what seat was this do you remember?
That was 6A
MAX is B A C K .!!!
In the title what does the "MSY" in the parenthesis stand for?
That’s the IATA (International Air Transport Association) airport code for the airport.
AIRPORT code for New Orleans.
It stands for Metairie Stock Yards - The airport is in the town of Kenner Louisiana - which is Incorporated…The community next to Kenner is Metairie, an unincorporated portion of Jefferson Parish. I lived in Metairie for the first 55 years of my life
Not Metairie, even though that does make sense, but rather “Moisant” for John Bevins Moisant who died in 1910 at the field which would become the airport. Moisant Stock Yards
You can actually see the exact moment they hit the LVL CHG speed right here. 9:20
Yea. You can hear the difference.
Is it me or what because it sure seems like the max cuts through choppy air
I think it handles it as an -800 would. Not completely sure, I haven’t been on a MAX in any moderate chop yet. This specific trip was relatively smooth despite the storms in two of the three cities.
I thought this was Microsoft Flight Sim 2020 first...
When you reach heaven 12:51
She turned & burned, the SWA way✈️✈️👋
Why do they have to fly so high?
Fuel efficiency. The less dense air at higher altitudes saves fuel
Also much more comfortable. Air is smoother up there
Trees. 🤭😉
@@meforaarontell that to the people on the Singapore 777 haha
I’m so scared
It's natural to be apprehensive about flying. There are quite a few aspects of it that feel unnatural but it really is safe. I always get a little nervous when landing but I remember the safety built into it all, the aircraft, procedures, training, etc
5:30
NO BUZZ:(?!?!
It’s different on the LEAP engines. No buzz saw. Still a nice sound though.
Somebody likes to hear themselves talk
Not a storm just rain

I don’t want to go in airplane
I’m not a fan of FAs that try to be cute/funny for the safety briefing.
I don't mind, plus keeps people paying attention.
Im okay with it if it keeps the passengers engaged to where they actually retain any amount of the information that's conveyed to them because, face it, how many pay attention to the announcements? I will be honest, I rarely do. However, I know them like the back of my hand, I know the aircraft like the back of my hand. I count rows from when I enter the L1 door to where I sit and then how many rows forward or aft to the nearest exit, left or right. The ones who'll be litigious after an incident are the ones disobeying or ignoring the briefing in the first place.
@@AListFlierKris I agree that most people, even infrequent fliers, Don;t pay attention. FAs are the “first responders” in an aircraft emergency. I’d prefer the FAs be taken more seriously. I don’t think I;d follow the Amy Schumer of flight attendants in an emergency. I’ve had people talked about funny FA safety briefings and they’ll tell me the punchline and without context I have no idea what it refers to. I’ll ask them what safety element the punchline related to and they have no clue. Yes it gets people to pay attention but it makes them super attentive for the joke that they miss the overall message.
I don’t fly on Boeing aircraft anymore. I don’t trust Boeing.

I don't see any storm.
