    Reel 1. "A British Motor Corporation Ltd presentation".
    Lorry approaching the camera at night. Voice over about truck drivers. Driver looks out of truck window. Ken Wood arrives at the Transport Depot. It is a Nuffield built truck. Ken lights a cigarette, he's on his way home to bed. He waves to a milkman. Home of the Jackson family where he lodges. Breakfast table, family sitting around eating. Ken goes in to say hello. Mr Jackson is a foreman at the factory where Morris commercial vehicles are made. Today his son Johnny will begin work as an apprentice. "Johnny is a bit scared at the moment..." C/U of his plate, he's off his food. Eileen his sister teases him. Eileen works at a flower nursery. She's in charge of wedding reception flowers today. C/U of a watch. Johnny and Mr Jackson leave for the factory, Johnny kisses his mother. Father and son walk to the factory. They say hello to the gate man. Father shows son around. Lorries are lined up. Johnny gets into the cab of a lorry and pretends to drive it. He walks down the production line (which is at a standstill). Lorry engines.
    Whistle blows and assembly line begins operating. Chassis of lorries are winched through the air. A chassis is lowered on to the base of a lorry. C/U of wheels. Production line. Lorry is driven off. Voice over talks of: "quality and value that only British craftsmanship can supply". Apprentice Supervisor's office. Johnny is told of the early triumph of Morris commercial vehicles. He is shown photographs of various models. "Pride in the firm" is instilled in Johnny. Sister Eileen is taking things calmly. She is in a greenhouse tending to Chrysanthemums. Voice over asks: "Have you thought how you will get them there uncrushed? Don't worry the experts have solved that. Just drink your tea and forget it." Another girl brings up a tray of tea.

    At 3:30 , the 38 year old teenager Johnny slams the truck’s door shut. It leaves a one inch gap at the bottom. “British craftsmanship “ indeed.

    Nowadays, Johnny might organise the wedding flowers and his sister might be on the line. Were those trucks in primer, maybe red oxide?

    Not much truck-building to be seen in the dark. Johnny’s doing a man’s job while Eileen plays with flowers! Everyone looks so old and stuffy.
