could you imagine throwing this thing on a fiesta st a hybrid turbo that loves tons of air compression.
What you need is a second air intake with a flap valve that closes under positive pressure. So you can drive around naturally aspirated without losing the horses, and when you hit the turbo the valve shuts and delivers the boost. Or you could do an electric solenoid valve that closes when you press the button. Just some ideas. :)
was thinking the same thing. needs a way to save the 10 hp for bottom end and a throttle switch to control the turbo so it kicks in under full throttle. Was also wondering what it would be like if a guy ran twins on there, would that negate the boost drop in higher rpm

If im not mistaking, you see that in a lot of higher end cars these days. A small electric turbo for the low end, and a bigger traditional turbo for the high end.

Yes - we call the 5.4 litre Chevy engines "small blocks." 7 litres is a "big block," but it's actually sort of standard size for a muscle car. Above that, we resort to turbo/supercharging, because roads are hard to widen . . .

if you were to take one of the really simple hybrids like for example Hyundai does (motor-generator just sits between the engine and tranny and connects with a clutch) and use it's electrical system = boost for dayz (or until the electric motor in the turbo cooks off...)

Try adapting a pvc y-split with the blower on one end and a CAI on the other, won't lose the power when off and pull a tad more when on.

@@KrisBendix I was wondering about that 48v is 48 volts 4 optomas should do the trick the turbo housing is cheap the real question is the high torque electric motor on the housing. I don't know who makes that. If Cleetus would show us the motor it could be made for much less than 2500

I had an ERAM electric turbo on my small engine car. (1.4 L). Although I never went to a Dyno , I had noticed that it had slightly better performance in middle range and worse on high range . A friend told me that I should regulate fuel to work correctly.... Anyway, the sound was wicked...!

Thomas Knight Turbos, from early 2000's used multiple batteries and 3 capacitors to discharge for about 25 seconds. Then they had to allow time to recharge. I called it electric nitrous back when I was building an Olds Quad 4.

I'm making a 2018 challenger sxt street build. As much power as I can put down on the assphalt without spinning. Don't need a super street rod, that's asking for jail. But fun and fast :) so far: 2 things: weight reduction and power increase. Deleted passenger seat 60lbs, swapped driver seat for padded rci 70 lbs. spare tire tool and tray 50lbs, spoiler 10 lbs, muffler and res delete 60 lbs, added flowmaster super 10 and resonated tips. Sounds amazing. No drone :) growl. Like a teenager T. rex haha. But also have a pcm swapped 93 tuned Diablo sport upgrade, drop in knn filter. Next all I want to do is do an aluminum driveshaft swap?

Get me to about 375 at about 3400 lbs. that's hemi power with 800 lbs out of the car. More than enough to show off with :)?
Cleetus McFarland would you recommend a fuel injector upgrade any? Or would 5 psi run just under lean? The Diablo sport tune makes me run 13.2-13.5afr. Would 5 psi from this put me over? If so would it be safe to upgrade my 285cc injectors to say 350cc? Trying to budget in a toy without breaking the bank lol. But enough to keep up with the hemis and stis in my town.
Just had an accident 2 days ago. A deer jumped through my open window of my challenger. Damaged my quarter needs replaced, dented door I need pulled, and hood needs straightened back. New side view mirror. The mirror from the deer flew in and gashed my face open 20 stitches, broken nose. Fractured eye socket, few loose teeth and fractured cheek. So now I I have to come up with a 1k deductible for insurance. Or order a new 150 panel, have it painted black, pull the dent, swap the mirror. A total of 400 for my work. Good as new. But whatever once I get this figured out. Back to build.
I want this turbo for an extra kick for gimmicks. No spare cash for a real supercharger haha. Plus 550 hp would surely cause me trouble haha.

A smart system for the track would be cool. If it increased throttle input while it needed charging, but it only did it while you were using partial throttle and then exactly balanced the extra engine power with the alternator draw...
That way the power to the ground stayed predictable and under driver control, but this thing would still charge as fast as possible.
It’s such an easy install, you can easily install and remove from any rental car.
Yeah, it's all fun until the tattle-tale computer informs the Avis dudes.
Just need a coupler kit of some sort and a set of jumper cables for the power feed and your set!

You think rental car companies can tell if you install a nitrous kit carefully? I know this would be easy to pull off undetectably but I think anybody with experience could pull off the bigger cheaper temporary mod of NO2.
@@taylor3915 I think all the rental companies can track where you drive, like some contracts say not to drive out of the state, plus there's data recorded. Years ago, a guy got hit with a $400 bill for going 100mph, so yeah, big brother is out there. Most new cars today have data recording of the last 30 seconds before a crash. Rental and insurance companies can tell if you were speeding, hit the brakes at all, throttle position and know even more.

Need to put a normally open damper after the turbo. This way you don't need to suck air through the turbo. When you hit the button the damper will slam shut and pressurize the intake!

When I was a kid in the 80's, I used to wonder if an electric leaf blower would work as a turbo. Crap used to keep me up at night. Thanks for the closure!
Well the Roadkill crew used gas powered leaf blowers, multiple, to get boost and make extra power. So electric would require an inverter for 12-120v and a lot of input power. But can be done
The guys over at MCM did it a few years back with a couple of ryobi leafblowers. they got like 2 hp out of it. The thing about leaf blowers is that they can move a large volume of air, but dont create a whole lot of pressure.
@@Pyrochazm the problem with mcm is that they used it on a carb engine and did no tuning whatsoever. I'm sure the best they did was make it run a little leaner. I know carbs still depend on air flow but still. No fine readings done on an old tired engine

Blowing air into the intake is not the same as compressing air. It allows more air in the same space, blowing more air without compressing, does near nothing.

Now what you gotta do is get a couple of them, wire them to a proper esc and do a compound setup using a mechman 370 and a car audio capacitor bank.

Electric motors are pretty standard I bet there’s one for an rc car or electric scooter that has way more power than the ones he’s using.
Seen a couple people who have rc boats that have motors bigger than that.

Just needs a butterfly valve that opens when the turbo is off and closes when the turbo is on. Get your air flow with it off and on!
Yeah I was thinking they needed a turbo bypass for it. The extra boost is great when you need it, but the whole set up becomes a major power drain when not used. Using more gas for making less power.
Just a simple 4 inch pvc check valve should work fine.

@@chrisbleurgh7425 don't need nos nor cams trust all my miata is missing is the pistons 85.5/11:1. I have bigger throttle body 64mm. A one pound crank pulley. Adjustable cam gears and a 4.2.1 header. And a nice 2.225 exhaust and she has a weight reduction 😁
Sweet. You can get all the cool turbo sounds on the intake end while keeping a nice naturally aspirated exhaust tone. Get boost and the added power and economy it offers without increasing exhaust back pressure. Just need to get the lite package and 4 deep cycle 12v batteries in series separate from (or selectively paired to) the car's electrical system. Just charge the batteries up overnight at home and you got yourself a very mild electric hybrid. Also pretty nice to be able to quickly install/uninstall for SMOG checks.

How does VOLVO use the electric Turbo with a Twin Turbo setup?
I think they feed the mechanical Turbos to eliminate lag.
If I'm not mistaken, they make almost 400 HP on a 2,3 liter engine. With no Turbo lag at all.
The Turbo came from SAAB. Their 2,3 liter engines easily output 300 HP on a single Turbo. The older ones from the SAAB 9000 cars are cast iron with heavy duty internals (and HEMI pistons) and will take a heck of a load of pressure, so you can do poor man's tuning (bigger Turbo, other injectors, new mapping) up to about 600-700 HP on a 2,3 liter with no engine mods. 😄
Imagine what a sequential Tri Turbo setup with a leaf blower starter like that electric Turbo would output - and how smoothly you could make it deliver that power. No Turbo kick. Just a constant flow of oxygen to that engine. 🤩😎
