The test pilots wear orange flight suit to aid in visually spotting them for recovery if some reason they have to bail out from the aircraft in flight. All Airbus test aircraft feature an escape hatch inside the fuselage for them to evacuate from in an emergency. A first flight is basically flying into the unkown despite gazillions of computer model and wind tunnel testing. Nobody knows what is really going to happen hence the orange suits and parachutes just as a precuation.
The A340-600 still is the most elegant commercial aircraft existing nowadays IMO. And as a frequent traveler it's still my favourite aircraft be aboard, too. So incredibly quieter than all those noisy twins (A330 and B777), so smooth (haven't tried the A380 yet). Too bad that her higher fuel consumption is slowly making it vanish from airline fleets :-(
In my humble opinion, the A346 is the most beautiful airliner in production today. I sure wish I could have one for a private plane! That's class, elegance and style!
+Andrew Anane One of the. Although it does have quite the impeccable safety record, the 777, 767, and 747 compare pretty well with it. I would agree though that she is a beauty and a very sleek-looking aircraft.
Not sure how you came to this conclusion that the A340-600 is the safest plane. According to wiki, only 97 of these planes were built and came into service in 2002 and many of this type are being withdrawn from service so not many of this type are flying today. Unless the A340-600 are produced in quantities similar to other types, you can't conclude that this is the safest plane.
He didn't really get caught in ground effect at all (which is interesting because the 330 generally "floats" forever) - yet both aircraft share very similar wings. This is a BEAST of a plane - those super high bypass engines just give it a really muscular look over the -300s
Best passenger aircraft I've ever travelled on, for the reasons above amongst others. Also the most aesthetically pleasing of all Airbus's, though could be supplanted by the A350.
Test flights are done with the wheels down because firstly it is a seperate test to be carried out on another test flight and secondly because it is scheduled for another test flight, they don't want to risk rasing the wheels on the first flight and then find there is a fault with it and then they can't land or risk damaging a brand new aircraft by doing a wheels up landing.
It depends who the manufacturers for the engines are for example Rolls Royce is in Britain but GE and Pratt & Whitney are in America (and some of Canada). Parts are also made in Sweden, Australia, Japan, etc. Airbus and Boeing are more worldwide than most think they are!
That is actually the typical rotation in an A340-600. The pilots do not rotate the aircraft to more that 10 degrees until the aircraft lifts off of the ground. This is due to the tail strike risk the extra length causes.
Just think about it: not even a year before 9/11/01 did the A340-600 first took to the yonder blue. It could've been an A340-600! But, United and American don't have the pencil-shaped plane, as my friend would say. Oh and also 6ish years before the A380 came out with nearly 13 years prior to the a350-1000 XWB! Look how far Airbus has come! Congrats, Airbus! ;P
@m3stw4nted Gear down is only at take off to reduce work load in case of an emergency. Gear is always cycled at least once in flight. Even the A380 B787 have flown gear up on firs flight.
@SuperMole666 They did actually use the whole '4 engines are better than 2 thing' during the advertising campaign when the A340 first came out. It showed a picture of the A340 flying over stormy seas with a paragraph underneath stating "If you're over the middle of the Pacific, you want to be in the middle of four engines." You can probably still find the picture on google if you look for it
@@xandroestrada1731 Indeed I did sir, She was a beauty to handle, a pig to Taxii but once you're in the air you forget her sheer size immediately, I'm on the A320 these days and I miss her a Lot!
I love flying, and have flown both Boeing and Airbus a large number of time both short haul and longhaul. all i can add is that i have found the Airbuses to be the quieter of the 2 . 747-400 more comfortable ,but the A340-500, just humm.
Lol at them wearing parachutes.. That filled me with hope. Elegant bird though wow :D... although people say Its innefficient.. Don't forget that it carries more people than a 747 (before the intercontinental) and with more luggage space... And the 747 has four engines too. I guess the a330 must then be hugely efficient.
It isn't retarcted because the plane doesn't fly at high altitudes and generally, there is always an escort plane filming the undercarridge to see how the gear reacts in an open position. Generally after take-off or before landing when the aircraft is between 100 & 2000 ft.
I've flown several times in this beast. Quiet plane ride, but the isles and ceiling seemed smaller than 747, doesn't really matter, cause the ride on both of them sucks if it's not first or business. Your're essentially sardened into seats for hours. But frankly speaking I could care less. I just want a comfortable trip. Airlines seem to be making bigger planes to add more seats, not provide greater comfort.
I have known that some of Thai Airways flight attendants feared an intercontinental 777 flight, and they think that A340 and 747 are safer because of 4 engines. (They think about one engine loss in midair)
There was that one 777 that crash landed in Heathrow (probably) from ice in the engines but that's it really that's the only one that's been written off.
I will always be fascinated by the beauty of an A340-600... My favourite airplane.
The A340-600 is one of my favorite aircraft! Never been on a A340.

13 Years and more you look at her more gorgeous it looks... Happy Maiden flight Airbus A340-600. Hope to see you soon :')
Haven't heard of any of these A340s involved in any fatalities compared to the other planes,God know how i love this plane

Say that to Lufthansa
God, the A340-600 is beautiful. Give me that over a chubby A380 any day.
A340 is my favorite 😍😘
11 years passed of her maiden flight!
Love you A340-600, till end of time!
how bout 20?

I love airbus a340 600!!!
The A340-642 is my second favourite plane after the A330-302. Great plane! I have flown it many times, always in Iberia.
safest plane on earth
sure it is!!

George Clarmon The 747 and 767 have a terrible safety record.
Alex That's true.

4 engines are better than 2 would be a good logo on the side
I love the shape and design of this beautiful aircraft! Thank you for posting.
This video is so delightfully 2000s: the music, the editing, and of course, the aircraft itself.
most beautiful airliner
Love the a340

this is my most favorite airplane.
Just Can't Belive that She's Gone for Ever ='(
A340 Was,and Will be Always my Fav. Plane Along with her SIter A330
It looks very similar to the old McDonnell-Douglas DC8.
Oh she is beautiful! :)

Don't forget they make them even safer too! ;)
a340 is my favorite
Terrific video, well done. I love the Airbus 340
@Lucas Lopes it's not gone. They're out of production but Airbus still fully supports them.
nostalgia when first i watch this i was 3 year old
my favourite plane, got to love the a340-600
the a340 is unique also supported by Emiraties written in the a340 by the side thank you emeraraties with its Color that's my favourite of all times.
But i love this plane was on it with Air Canada and South African!!! BEAUTIFUL~
You'd have to agree though that it did look slightly unstable on lift off
Brendan Dodds ya they pulled up too early

Back then this was like the biggest passenger aircraft ever, 747s aside. So it sure was a special moment in aviation.
A beautiful plane.
When I was small, and first time of travel, I go to Japan with my family by a340-600 of Cathay Pacific
Awesome plane! My third favorite aircraft just after the 757 and 747

My first wide body was a 340-600 from Munich to Denver in last November.😊❤ ✈
so most likely D-AIHI or AIGV
Wow sooo majestic..
Fantastic!!
what a beautiful creation dude.
Anyone here having nostalgia? Because I used to watch this video when I was a kid, & it was the longest Airbus A340 I have ever known.
I feel that the take off was not perfect but the aicraft is an excellent product, bravo Airbus !

My favorite aircraft if all time and I was one of the firsts
male flight attendant on the L-1011 Eastern Airlines...6'1" in height and proud of it
The Airbus 340 is so beautiful and more efficient ... I really like to work with Airbus or Boeing ... I'm an electronics technician.
Very nice vid!
the longer the better!
@m3stw4nted Gear down is only at take off to reduce work load in case of an emergency. Gear is always cycled at least once in flight. Even the A380 B787 have flown gear up on firs flight.
Its a good video and its a beutiful plane
I personally think A340-600 is the most beautiful commercial aircraft ever made. Who agree?
Great video! Still strange takeoff, very hard landing... Probably the wind plus the excitement of the first flight with this great aircraft...
This Airbus 340-600 is really cute shaped.
Such a lovely aircraft
i used to love the airbus "old" house colors
Beautiful.
Amazing! The 757 and the A340 are the best planes on earth!
Don't forget concorde
Nice... Superbbbb....
You know iv always marvel at the slow climb out of the A340.
great video
THE best looking passenger aircraft of all time (apart from Concorde) just a shame it wasn't commercially successful
I love the a340!! It's smooth, and it doesn't make as much noise as the 747!!
Because the 747 have power and a queen roaring
i have flown in a a340 at least 4 times. very nice plane
nice vid!landing was extremely hard
Nice Flight

lol. I know (as in "how's that 787 coming along?" NOT WELL!! :D ) and i am even wearing a Boeing hat right now. This is probably my favorite Airbus.
I fly this bird in real life and trust me its MAGNIFICENT!!!
Hope you enjoyed every second flying it. God knows I loved spotting it. :,)

... what a beatiful plane
nice vid
This is a beautiful airliner without commercial success unfortunately.
Nice :)
just 2 gud to fly what a user friendly cockpit really owesam
beautiful

flew on one of these from LHR-IAD back in 08 the engines are surprisingly loud from the cabin
Fantastic
@chrisjeffsmusic yeah but they do hours and hours of time in a simulator of this aircraft before hand

I *love* Boeing fanboys, they sound so ridiculous and give me a good laugh in the morning.
Big,Bigger,Biggest!
@m3stw4nted Only at take off to reduce workload in case of an emergency. Gear is cycled at least once when in the air and no problems has risen.
What is the black dangly thing behind the tail? It’s usually on new planes
El mejor avion jet que he conocido, seguro, potente y silencioso. Gracias por el video. Ojala lo reactiven para reemplazar a al B787 y A-330
@formber Very interesting rotation.
what's the pylon with rope at the beginning for? i've seen many pictures where those were visible, but i don't know for what.
thanx
thx my friend! and i know planes very well,i have seen a lot of takeoffs/landings!
yeh they were. same as with the A380. there was an escape trapdoor in the floor of the cockpit.
whats the little tail cone for? and is it just me or did the aircraft rotate very quickly(as in time it took to rotate not to reach rotation speed.)?

Why do Americans (I have to assume you're American as only Americans seem to do it) say "I could care less"? That literally means you do care
Très Elegant

one of the best aircraft out there, bigger, faster, farther, thats airbus right there.
anyone know the song here?
@azworx no the a340-600 the length is 247 foot the longest and the 777 is 242 i think or 243 foot
