For the most part, VK really wants to 2 hand. Most builds that are going to use a shield are normally just for the fact that theres no 2h that they really want, and can afford the damage drop for more survivability, sadly not much you actually build around. That being said, there are some smite builds you can find for VK that use a shield
You can't respec to change your mastery right now, but respeccing passive points is very easy. Hopefully they change this in 1.0 Edit: None of the skills used require you to choose Void Knight as your mastery, by the way. So just pick whatever you want. Volatile Reversal is obtained by putting points into Void Knight, but doesn't require you to take it as your actual mastery (Erasing Strike is the skill that you get by choosing Void Knight, like Forge Strike and Holy Aura are for Forge Guard and Paladin respectively)
While you cannot respec out of your mastery, you are free to put points into any tree, up to the half way point. You can see this by the chain in the void knight tree in this video. With that said, this build still works perfectly fine on Paladin. As for respecing points, just talk to the chornomancer in any major area (They have the brain icon) and you can respec any passive points you've spent at a low gold cost.
