Young Jazz Ensemble - Grade 3
From the Japanese anime television series “Cowboy Bebop,” this exuberant tune has taken on a life of its own, and is simply flat out fun! Composed by Yoko Kanno and arranged here for younger ensembles by Paul Murtha, this exciting chart features a driving bass line with saxes on the main melody and punches from the brass. Solos are included for alto sax and trumpet.

People don’t understand the concept of easier arrangements. Changing the key, lowering the range, and slowing it down is the point. If you’re that pressed go listen to the original

Or hell, they HAVE a Grade 5 arrangement for this posted a year ago. Literally, it’s right there😐

You do realize this is in a harder key than the original. Why change it off of an easier key, that would only demand you to play a whole step higher. Having to play this just makes me wish we were playing a better arrangement.😔

@@inertiaking1 no it’s not, it’s plenty easy. Easier rhythms, easier range, etc. The arrangement is made for less experienced players. Get over it. It does its job really well, it’s literally 2 extra flats, anyone and everyone can play that. You’re complaining about nothing. If you want something closer to the original, go to the John Wasson Grade 5 arrangement.
Bb minor is a great key for young players.

Seems like a well done arrangement for younger groups, lowering the trumpet range and opening up the solo sections. Wish I was improvising like that in high school.

Calm all the "original" comments. It's supposed to accessible to kids, people. It's a great arrangement.

This is a great arrangement for high school jazz bands! It kinda gives off similar vibes to Murtha’s marching band arrangement too!

It’s very clearly written for younger players compared to the other one that’s written for grade 5. Obviously more liberties have to be taken to make it easier.

There's absolutely no way students can play this in C. The brass section would faint trying to do those runs in the second A section. They *start* on Eb. When I was a teenager, I wanted to play this in the school jazz band, but no transcriptions or arrangements were available, so I had to spend weeks hand-transcribing and then arranging it down into something playable for me and the other kids. I'm sure Hal Leonard was far too busy cranking out new versions of "Stardust" to notice that there were suddenly a half million nerds who wanted to learn jazz because of an anime, but at least they've finally gotten around to it and published multiple difficulty levels.
