  • Explore the rugged coastline of Northern California -- starting at the Pacific’s most treacherous coastline to an insider’s view of America’s most infamous prison. We begin on safari through the only national seashore on the west coast -- Point Reyes; a windy and foggy peninsula that for centuries proved deadly for mariners coming and going from San Francisco Bay. We encounter a once-vanishing breed of elk found only in California along with fascinating creatures like bat rays and harbor seals.
Then, we’re off to a once-thought-impossible engineering feat that connects San Francisco to the rest of the Bay Area. The Golden Gate Bridge is built to contend with heavy traffic but it also needs to withstand high winds and earthquakes since it hangs right over the San Andreas Fault.
Finally, we set sail for the Rock; Alcatraz Island. In its day, this island housed one of America’s most feared prisons and most infamous criminals. What started out as a military fort became an end-of-the-line prison for criminals too dangerous to be housed anywhere else. Today, the island is part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. We check out one of the most daring prison breaks in history and what it’s like to go into solitary confinement -- aka The Hole. Join us if you dare!
