About this video:
Today we are continuing our trip around the Taranaki region of New Zealand by checking out the town of Stratford. Stratford is famous for being the Shakespeare town of New Zealand thanks to street names after various characters from Shakespeare, as well as the Stratford Glockenspiel that does a performance four times a day.
First thing we do when we arrive in Stratford in Taranaki is check out the famous Stratford Glockenspiel for ourselves. It does a performance of Romeo and Juliet every day at 10m, 1pm, 3pm and 7pm. You can find the Stratford Glockenspiel right in the centre of Stratford.
After that, we look around a few shops and art galleries then settle in cafe in Stratford called Cafe x.o.x which is super quirky and a great way to stay out of the rain.
Finally, we check in at the Stratford Holiday Park before making our way to some walks around the Patea River including a swing bridge.

I definitely recommend going on the western or eastern loop good way to get fit
yeah I know its a great place to go!!
As a person who currently lives in Stratford nz. It is very safe to walk around it rains a lot, and it is a dump site xd
Oh come on! Stratford is a fun little town!
I grew up there! ❤️❤️❤️ it’s a wonderful little town to grow up in 💫 summers spent swimming in the Patea River, climbing Mt Taranaki, or walking the Carrington Walkway are all amazing memories I hold fondly
I totally agree! It is a fantastic place. What are some local hidden gems?!
Stratford-upon-Avon...The town is a popular tourist destination owing to its status as the birthplace and gravesite of playwright and poet William Shakespeare
Thanks for that ;)
@@NZPocketGuide hahaha !
In one of your articles you mentioned that Dawson Falls can be reached from Dawson Falls Visitor Center, Stratford Mountain House and Stratford Plateau - can you please add more info about how far the round trip is to and from the falls? Is it shorter than going to the falls frmt he Forgotten Hwy itself? More details please:) Thanks in advance! This recording was amusing! Thanks:)
I'm glad you enjoyed the recording! Can you tell me which article you'd like us to update and we'll add it to our list?

When you guys were standing watching the clock tower me and my dad were in town that day and I saw you guys!
That's awesome! You should have said hi!
Amazing video! I miss Stratford.. well the one in East London actually, where l gre up. I did visit this Stratford close to Taranaki. Little quirky town. There’s also a quaint little heritage site further called Whangamomona where you can get your passport stamped. ☺️
Glad you enjoyed it! Yeah we love Whangamomona, check out this video -> czcams.com/video/2IW4KinZTwU/video.html
Funny need to check that out...street names 👍🇳🇿
I know, I can't believe we forgot to film them. Never mind... The Glockenspiel steals the show anyway.
i live there!
Awesome! Any local recommendation to share with us?! Especially since the small cafe closed down sadly...
Did you go to the pioneer village?
Sadly we did not make it to the Pioneer Village, we wish we had unlimited time everywhere we go so we could do everything! But we'll be bask in Stratford for sure!
I'm from Stratford, Ontario, Canada. We actually have a Shakespearean Theatre Festival. Some streets and schools are named after Shakespearean characters. The river in Stratford is the Avon. So, Stratford, NZ is nothing unique. Except our Stratford doesn't have a glockenspiel. There is also a Stratford in the province of Quebec, and then farther south in Connecticut, U.S. A.
Haha so Stratford towns around the world are all quirky! Cool! Do you know of any other?
@@NZPocketGuide Just the one in England; the quirkiest of them all.
The English are mastering quirkiness for centuries now haha
I live in Stratford
Awesome, it's a great hidden gem on the NZ road map :)
The streets are named after Shakespearean characters! Clearly you haven’t been to Stratford in Ontario, Canada.
Nope we have not indeed :(
I think I saw someone I know
Haha who did you see? Romeo or Juliet?
@@NZPocketGuide true. but it was someone who lives next door
How funny! :)
Visitors need to be educated about the crowns colonies...they will be surprised with how many of other countries/nations names are in new zealand and the monarchy ruling of thumb
Thanks for the input ;)
@@NZPocketGuide your welcome. You will note now there a more than a few Stratfords around the world now...pride places of the queens and kings men.
Where you purposely trying to sound condescending and belittling?
