In this video I tell the story of my first trip to India and why I have returned after an absence of over 20 years. And about my bro-mance with a blue god...
bald and bankrupt you are amazing. Actually hindus or Indian civilization never begin here. Even if you go to indus ancient city you will see that it was a planned city no evidence that people developed there but people who moved there already knew how to build a city.
If you want to go to an even older place go to drwaka and take a dive in the water to see the krishnas city which is older than indus civilization. Take you god shiva with you
He knows all that, but he wanted to see the closet possible start of Sindhu river which gave birth to Indus civilization, one of the oldest artifacts was Lord shiva in yoga pose found in Indus civilization.
I had a similar story. After becoming sick like you in Varanasi, I was trying desperately to leave, but India wasn't gonna let me go. Once I resigned myself to the fact that I had to stay in India until the date on my plane ticket the country opened to me and forever became a part of who I am. India's touched so many people including myself. Like others I started out with a short one-off trip, which turned into multiple trips which is resulted in long stays. I haven't been back since ninety-seven but have always committed to returning.

Greetings from France! You must receive lots of compliments on your video and this is one more. Your story on the elderly man who nursed you when you were ill and your devotion to Lord Shiva must be one of the best things I've come across on CZcams. It also explains why you mention Jai Bhole Ki often.

I am from the Indian state of Bihar, currently living in Alberta, Canada. One odd day a friend of mine who is a caucasian asked me about "Upnishada." I didn't expect a white Saxon male would ask me where can he find this ancient Hindu book. The same evening I had to go to the bookstore to buy some of the books, and I decided to look for the English version of "Upanishads." I was surprised to find it there, and I didn't have to spend much of my time looking for it. The next morning I saw him in the college, and I gifted him this book. He wanted to pay me for the book, and I politely refused, stating, 'in my culture, we gift books, don't sell them. He recently lost his mother and had a hard time concentrating on things. He said this book helped him learn more about meditation, spirituality and how to control his mind.
Dear friend,I am also from Bihar,I just wanted to correct something, and that is you can not Control your Mind, because how it works depends on how you give instruction to it. There is something listening to Mind and at the same time directing your Mind to the true path,, You can learn it from "The Geeta" and "Mahabharta",if have some disbelieve.Well,it is better to learn than "to Believe" too.

I do puja everyday in noon and twilight but never felt so connected with Shiva as I'm feeling now. You know, I'm Indian by birth but you are Indian by your heart. Love you Bald 💚
People being quiet and grateful is always beautiful, I agree. Very rare 'optics' in 2020, that's for sure. When out and about, people watching, I love catching people just peacefully smiling to themselves, it's deeply moving.

I cant explain it, but a friend of mine back in the 80 ' s said " I was Indian in another life time" that always resonated with me and some how feel it is true. It's a shame that this wholesome, spiritual act is now considered 'cultural appropriation'. I think that old man from the hotel would really shed a tear to know just how seriously you took his prayers and good wishes. Not just carrying Shiva with you, but doing this as well. It speaks volumes to your good character.
I'm an Indian and It's not cultural appropriation, if anyone in the west criticises you for it, show them my approval of this not being cultural appropriation. I think some people in the west take themselves way too seriously! Like bro, as long as you have respect it's NOT cultural appropriation, respect is all that matters. What a stupid concept even, cultural appropriation lmao!
@@RonnieBanerjee007 All these are meaningless, There is nothing magical in words, Just that they are simple words in hindi. I'm a white American Hindu, I don't care if someone claims I'm "culturally appropriating". I believe in this way of life, the beliefs of the spiritual masters match my own personal beliefs. If they want to be technical, then Christians are also culturally appropriating since Christianity is a Middle Eastern religion adopted by white people.
@@RonnieBanerjee007 You are correct my friend. It is respect that matters above all when sharing in others culture. If we are not able to share and learn and participate in others culture, how will we ever understand or find the beauty in others. I would be honored to show someone from the other side of the world my small American town and would love for them to participate in the customs and traditions that we hold dear.
All westerners say that. Then they steal our spiritual knowledge and philosophy and then pretend they are “spiritual “.As for our heritage it’s sold off for rice bags and there will soon come a time when our fate is the same as the Kashmiri Pandits
So, Mr. Bald, I literally watched dozens of your fun, cultural and easily enjoyable videos all around India, and now I face the real reason for this channel. You made me so emotional, cant stop the tears right now. Only the people who has this "bromance" with this country can understand the complexity and depth of your motivation. Bahut bahut danyabad, Bald ji.
I watched this video a long time ago but have come back to share a little bit about my experience with Hinduism and with Lord Shiva especially. I have been depressed for more than half my life because of important people in my life passing away and for years all I would do was smoke marijuana and try to ignore the anxious feelings. For a time it worked because I would numb my thoughts yet after a while, I had no idea that the depression would get worse after years of ignoring it and not trying to do something about it. Around 10 years into the depression and anxiety I had hit the worst part of my life and in that time Shiva came to me and I would out of seemingly nowhere chant Om Nam Shiva in my head. At the time I did not know the exact words nor did I try to research it because I was only at the start of opening my mind. Time goes on and I began to become more and more interested in Hinduism and the Gods and Deities that rule the universe. I started to do research and bought books, discovered Ganesh and Krishna and Hanuman as well. I started meditating and felt much better about myself. After some time I decided to devote my life to Hinduism, even if I wasn't as devout as some followers I still pray every day and try to be mindful of what I do. At the start, my parents were weary and would say "Why don't you follow your own religion?" because I was apparently raised as a Protestant but I never felt like a Christian although I do respect other religions, I just felt that Hinduism spoke to me more. Over time I started to buy some things to help me become a devotee so that I can feel like I am doing it the correct way. I bought rudraksha seeds and small statues and mala beads and enough incense to last at least 5 years. Although I still feel like I am not doing enough to be mindful of my anxiety and to give back to Lord Shiva, I do feel like I am on the right path. Watching this video again reminds me of why Lord Shiva came to me in my time of need. You do not need to devote your life to Lord Shiva to receive help from him but I feel like it was the right thing for me to do. I know my paragraphs are all over the place but I haven't been in school for a while so I forget how to write correctly. Thank you if you read this whole thing and Ohm Namah Shivaya, Hare Krishna, and Namaste. Have a great day and don't forget to help someone if they seem like they need it.
You didn't write incorrectly! Congratulations for having gotten away from addictions. Hope your parents are okay now? Also, if you haven't already, do look up the Sanskrit phrase "Ekam Sat Vipra Bahuda Vadanti." It will give more insight into Sanatana Dharma and help you help your parents reconcile with what you're doing with Hinduism. 🙏🏻

Fascinating story and video mate. My mum is Indian, my Dad English. Grew up in the South West of England - quite isolated from any Asian influence. Went to Delhi 3 times as a young child. Hope to go back someday, and would love to do a motorcycle tour of the northern mountainous regions, the Hill Stations etc... Stunning scenery, lots of historric sites. The place my family used to visit was called Haridwar, not sure if you know it.... quite popular as a pilgrimage to the Hindu gods I think. My mum and her mum would both semi-bathe in the Ganges there, it has some sort of religious significance. OK, enough of my long comments for today haha
Oh nice! Yes heard of it and a bit about Hardware but not been myself. So you have to come back then and re-discover the Asian side of your heritage. Riding a motorcycle through the region would be an incredible way to do that. I'll be waiting for your own 'Why I returned to India' video one day mate.

I stumbled upon your videos while recovering from hospital and was delighted and uplifted. The last I was in India was 1981. Oh, how it has changed. I had studied Hindi for a year before going. I left San Francisco, California on a chilly April and landed in Madras without planing. Culture and temp shock was rough and I asked a well dressed local, sporting authority, in my best Hindi where I might find a Hotel, he replied "Oh my God man, we speak the Queen's English here." My adventure began at once. Thank you for sharing your humor and your deeper insights in your adventure.
I have tears in my eyes, *Oh my beloved Indus River, the divine water which sustained my ancestors, I cry for you day and night, I remember you with every breath, my beloved river, my beloved water, I dream of becoming one with you when my burning ashes will be mixed in you* - Indian from the southern part.
The Indus River never "sustained" the southern part of India. You 'cry everyday' and spend every waking moment thinking about "your river"? Even if Pakistan had never existed, the Indus River was always a part of Punjab, and conversely, the Northwest of India. I don't understand the point of your melodramatic and nonsensical poem. I'm surprised this has so many likes, it seems like a really bad troll attempt.
@@hpguy99 You realise that southern indians migrated from the indus valley to the south after the migration of the indo-aryans right? That's why the RG veda has dravidian loan words, and why the brahui dialect still exists in pakistan
@@hpguy99 that's the difference between Indians and Pakistanis. You know right before 1947 we were one country? And that in indus valley civilisation we were one big region?
@@hpguy99 1) Indus Valley Civilization is the root of Indian civilization. People who lived there moved across India after its fall. 2) Sindhu river is mentioned a lot in Rig Veda, the oldest scripture for Hindus. Sindhu river is mentioned in lot of mantras too. Rivers, in general, are considered holy for Hindus. River banks are the ideal place to recite prayers and conduct ceremony. Funeral rites too take place by the river. While the Ganga is the most holy river, Sindhu comes next, along with Godavari, Yamuna etc. 3) The symbolic value of Indus as the border of Hindu lands. Hindu lands have always been defined as east of Indus to west of Brahmaputra, south of Himalayas. These 3 were the natural borders of ancient India. I hope this makes you understand why Hindus consider River Sindhu/Indus in high regard.

You must understand that hinduism isnt a relegion, it is a way of life. The Concept of relegion was completely alien to indians. But unfortunately today it is recognised as a relegion. Truly unfortunate
absolutely correct. sanatan is a way of life. a way to seek. just like europe has a way of life. a pattern to live life. a culture. sanatan is not a faith, not a religion. may be there are many small religions within sanatan. but as a whole together they make it a way of life of this land. and there is no coercion to practise any particular way. that is the beauty of sanantan. what the Europeans have realised after their french revolution, indians have realised it thousands of years ago. that is the reason sanantan culture is still alive .
@Storm D Well every other religion identify themselves as a religion and that this is the only way to follow. However the concept of religion is completely alien to Hinduism. In Hinduism gods are a personification of nature. The word hindu itself was given by foreigners. It was originally giver to the people who resided in the Indian subcontinent as a geographical identification, as I said by foreigners( foreign invaders would be more appropriate). Also one more thing you must note is there is no way to convert to Hinduism. However, its different, where in other religions there is. You don't have to go to any temple. You don't have to worship anyone or anything and still you can be a hindu. On the other hand you can worship everything and anything if you wish. The sole basis of Hinduism is one must follow his or her dharma and your karma is the result of your actions and you reap what you sow. As a Christian you have go to the church every Sunday, as a Muslim you have to read namaz every Saturday and go to the mosque or god won't forgive you, they say. No one says any such thing in Hinduism. P S: Buddhism, sikkhism and jainism are also a part of Hinduism so everything i said above applies to them as well.
@@iagreewithyou4328 .YU SAID IT PERFECTLY AGAIN. nothing more to add. just that the word hindu is a corruption of the word sindhu. Arabs have difficulty to say sa word. so they substituted ha for sa. and all land east of the river was called sindh or sindhu land. and all people residing in it were called as sindhus by arabs. but only they uttered it as hindu land and hindu people and hindu religion. in ancient and mediveal times arabs were the primary means through which thought and goods from the east and orient percolated to europe. and so they introduced bharat as hindustan to europe. when the word hindu reached romans , they further corrupted it or rather latinised it [ every language corrupts words from other languages, not just latin] to inde. and when inde reached the english it became india. so from sindhu ---> hindu-->inde--> india. all are incorrect becoz all in reality refer only to a small part of bharat that is called as sindhustan or sindh which is only a province of bharat, not bharat itself.
This is the loveliest story I've heard in a very long time and it reinforces my belief that there is only one God with many names and he belongs to all of us whether we believe or not. Stay safe through your travels.

Hinduism is not a religion but a big umbrella under which more than a thousand religions and customs are accomodated. Collectively a Sanaatana dharma. Those who lived near Sindhu (indus) river were know as Hindus. Hence no one can be converted into a Hindu. One can only adopt to the idea and practice. Sanatana dharma is not just the oldest but also the most scientific dharma.

This is the most heartwarming video on the channel that I have seen so far because it shows real you and covers some of your personal story. I am not saying that I don't like those crazy stories from post Soviet countries, just now I feel like I finally know you better as a person(even though it's not true) and it comforts me. Thanks
Excellent video. You say you are not a Hindu. I said the same once.I asked the question - who is an Hindu? Then I got the concepts of Dharma and Karma. I learnt to ask who is the follower of Dharma? If a person believes that you need to work hard and uphold dharma (righteous path) to get on the path to salvation then that person is a follower of Dharma. You need to work hard to be at the table. You will go through cycles of birth and death to perfect your understanding of this law. One cannot sin and invoke the name of God to escape the cycle of birth and death. I liked this philosophy. Now I am a dharmic - you can also call me a Hindu. Maybe you are a Hindu and you don't know it yet. Hope I added to your understanding in some small way. PS - not to get into conspiracies but later I found that the gnostics, cathars and other old Christian sects believed in reincarnation. The nag hammadi scrolls add to this view. Jesus possibly preached this doctrine and it was twisted by the Romans that followed. Btw - look up Theodosius the Christian emperor who slaughtered the gnostics and cathars (talk about turning the other cheek) - more proof there . Peace and blessings to you! Ekam Sat. Tat tvam asi.
You guys may like it or not -- believe it or not -- But for open minded people ORIGINAL JESUS CHRIST (Indian name YESHU) was an Indian Sage went to teach to Rome those days with his wife Mary Mangadlene (Mariyamma).Popes destroyed Europe (pagans) creating fear of hell and took power and manipulated everything.History is rigged .. Truth will come out sooner than later.
Many hindus don't understand Dharm and karm ... there's no one to educate them. Globalists control everything and restrict preaching of Hinduism in various ways
@@hsram1985 That's a made-up story, along with that of "Saint" Thomas having traveled to southern India right after Jesus's death. I don't know what your angle is, but this type of story is usually spread by Christians seeking to convert Hindus. Are you a crypto-convert, keeping a Hindu name but really a Christian? Or are you just confused? In South India, there are lots of village goddess temples, all often called Mariyamma temples. That, the Christians have hoodwinked and co-opted into "Mary" in the last generation or so, and even have churches with Mary statues wearing a sari. That is called a post-hoc rationalization meant to confuse Hindus to seek conversion. This is what Christians have stooped down to, in order to seek conversion. They tried all other ways, now they are copying Hinduism in all outward ways in order to confuse us from reality. It is neither real Christianity and certainly not real Hinduism. What you call "Yeshu" is just the Christians "Indianizing", "Sanskritizing" the name Jesus or his Hebrew name Yeshua... There was no such person in India, and he wasn't a Hindu, and his teachings as they are laid out in the bible are not Hindu teachings. This is not about being open-minded or not... it is about not being stupid, or trying to make other people to be dumb to try to believe it. I will leave you asking just one question: do you believe in karma and reincarnation, or do you believe in Jesus as the son of god and the savior of all and therefore no other god should be prayed to? Jai Shri Krishna!

bald and bankrupt you are amazing.

Yet another day in this holy Land

I'm a white American Hindu, I don't care if someone claims I'm "culturally appropriating". I believe in this way of life, the beliefs of the spiritual masters match my own personal beliefs.

Wow I'm from the Netherlands. I wish I only had half the goodness you have, Amazing what you did there for your mate Shiva. Your story really gave me goosebumps.
It just felt that from the beginning of your struggles with the fever that everything was meant to be. I guess the old man had become your spiritual guardian from that moment. Really awesome
this is such a beautiful gesture! I wish you all the happiness and may Lord Shiva always be by your side.
Must have been an adventure.
BTW... Do you have Albanian ancestry.
Yes, Most of my relatives are in Piana Delgi Albanesi. @@ritikshaw5868,
Welcome again Sir,
I have tears in my eyes, *Oh my beloved Indus River, the divine water which sustained my ancestors, I cry for you day and night, I remember you with every breath, my beloved river, my beloved water, I dream of becoming one with you when my burning ashes will be mixed in you*
- Indian from the southern part.
@@hpguy99
1) Indus Valley Civilization is the root of Indian civilization.
We'll take it back soon. We'll free it
I have to say, I’m completely impressed. I just started following, since I follow a lot of travel channels, and especially channels where folks go to India (never have been, but I feel a strong connection with it), and your channel kept coming up in video comments or CZcams recommendations. I thought you were probably just a bit of a smartass bloke, showing interesting bits about India, and then this one came up as a suggestion. I’m blown away at the motivation you have for returning and your dedication in doing so. I’m going to view your videos via a new mental lens. Thank you for sharing this story. 🙏🏼👍🏼✌🏼
Right on !:)
I have been to Europe and I have seen influence of Shiva there too. Har Har Mahadev.

A truly wonderful story and journey! You maybe Bald & Bankrupt but on on another level your are one of the Richest men I know Bai Saab!!
You must understand that hinduism isnt a relegion, it is a way of life. The Concept of relegion was completely alien to indians. But unfortunately today it is recognised as a relegion. Truly unfortunate
I agree with you🤣🤣🤣
absolutely correct. sanatan is a way of life. a way to seek. just like europe has a way of life. a pattern to live life. a culture. sanatan is not a faith, not a religion. may be there are many small religions within sanatan. but as a whole together they make it a way of life of this land. and there is no coercion to practise any particular way. that is the beauty of sanantan. what the Europeans have realised after their french revolution, indians have realised it thousands of years ago. that is the reason sanantan culture is still alive .
sanatan is the most scientifc way of life. in fact sanatan itself is science. slowly people all over the world will realise this.
P S:
Buddhism, sikkhism and jainism are also a part of Hinduism so everything i said above applies to them as well.
An amazing story. Thank you for sharing
I have seen Shiva in some homes I have visited... Now I know why he is therefore

This is the loveliest story I've heard in a very long time and it reinforces my belief that there is only one God with many names and he belongs to all of us whether we believe or not. Stay safe through your travels.
every act of kindness has a ripple effect, it can make someone's day or change someone's life, that person would in turn change someone else's life. That is what we need in this world and more so in today's time. lovely story!

Wow! Great story mate.
India is the most fascinating Country in this World ! Every Backpackers holy grail
Damn dude you really out here making some of the best content on CZcams with a GoPro and practically zero editing. Amazing.
Storytelling is his forte.
People are more interested in his stories than editing.
he is not using a gopro though
You speak really good hindi mate. Quite impressed with your knowledge and your obsession for shiva !!
Adarsh Dhaka are you from Bangladesh?
it's not an obsession, it's his faith in Bhagwan Shiva!
Mind your word man..dont you dare use the word obsession against lord shiva..
The BBC, nat geographic even sir David Attenborough himself couldn't of presented a better episode. Well done Mr.Bald
couldn't have*
BBC will only show negative coverage of India.
Do not compare the BBC with Sir David Attenborough!
No cap!
Lord shiva is the best.. I have several reasons to love him..
If any one is compassionate towards animals and nature he is the one to pray...He is also called as pashupathi ...He protects every single living being... Be it a human, animal or a plant.. You are great soul Man .i like it .appreciated you work whatever you have done ✅.om Nama shivay.happily hopefully see you in future
a majority of the time, when i see white people trying to follow hindu or indian customs, i find that it feels culturally appropriative but this felt genuine and respectful and really heartfelt. such an amazing video and an amazing story.
Wow, I am an Indian, but that portion of the video with the silence and all stupas. I had goosebumps. Om Nama Shivaya.
What an inspiring story! I am impressed by the respect you show for other Cultures and am not surprised that Shiva gives you the strength to carry on with your wonderful work. Shiva is regarded as the kindest deity by many Hindus and many peoples' wishes gets fulfilled instantly if prayed from the heart. I wish you all the best in your amazing adventures and hope you will carry on showing us global community lifestyles that we may never be able to "physically" see.

Hindusim is not a religion, but called for people living besides the river Indus; but Sanatana Dharma is.
Maybe in your dillusion world

This is the most heartwarming video on the channel that I have seen so far because it shows real you and covers some of your personal story. I am not saying that I don't like those crazy stories from post Soviet countries, just now I feel like I finally know you better as a person(even though it's not true) and it comforts me. Thanks
OMM NAMAH SHIVAY
Ekam Sat. Tat tvam asi.
u are correct Bro. with simple living, high thinking I. e. peace & love is the key word to pass out this recycling space
You guys may like it or not -- believe it or not -- But for open minded people
ORIGINAL JESUS CHRIST (Indian name YESHU) was an Indian Sage went to teach to Rome those days with his wife Mary Mangadlene (Mariyamma).Popes destroyed Europe (pagans) creating fear of hell and took power and manipulated everything.History is rigged .. Truth will come out sooner than later.
Many hindus don't understand Dharm and karm ... there's no one to educate them. Globalists control everything and restrict preaching of Hinduism in various ways
Exactly..this is the perfect explanation of our culture and tradition.
