Hell Let Loose Guide: How to Play the “Commander” Right

  • The commander class is a very complex class…with everything to know about the class, it no wonder it drives people away from playing the class. However, for those who want a challenge, to try and play a strategy game and FPS at the same time, the commander role is for you. There is a lot to cover with this class, this video should cover a lot of that and get you on a good path towards becoming a good commander.
    This video was an editing nightmare, my software kept bugging out and causing issues, and as much as I tried to keep this video under 30 minutes….I was not successful, I found myself going down numerous rabbit holes that I felt needed to be explained. So I apologize for a long video. On the flip side, there is definitely some aspects I didn’t talk about for the sake of time, feel free to leave them in the comments.

    couple corrections.
    destroying a garry in blue territory takes the same amount of time as red zone garries unless they are 3+ columns deep in the map
    the commander can call stuff in while dead as long as they are not headshotted or gibbed by an explosion. you can call things in while you are downed waiting for a medic.

    FYI, you can lock the Halftrack so that a blueberry doesn't steal it. They can enter the vehicle and start it, but they can't drive off with it.
    For PC: hold the parking break (space bar) as you leave it locks in the break.
    For PS5: Hold Square and Circle
    For Xbox: Hold X and B

    Very nice guide. Im around lvl 50 now and my only commander experience is jumping into the role when a new match started and the server was suddenly empty. Just to look and see how using the abilities feels. Still don´t plan on actually commanding a full game, since I have strong doubts in my leadership skills. But this guide was helpful nonetheless. Honestly the min rank should be 50. I’ve commanded games with only one SL talking and still led the team to victory with strategic garrison placements. Unfortunately Game Pass availability has vastly hindered the quality of the games on console though. The matches at chock full of people who aren’t at all interested in communicating, or setting up nodes, or garrisons. People are constantly team killing. It’s a mess right now.

    Moral is more important than you think guys. I’ve seen friendly’s starting killing teammates on the last point while we were defending just because they thought we were going to lose. On one instance we ended up winning 45 minutes later but on the other match we lost because we could no longer defend because our teammates were killing us because some people in text chat said “gg”
    This game is NOT a “gg” until the match is actually over

    • @ChaoticHammer_

      My thing with the pacific theatre is how outclassed the Japanese army was compared to the US army. Only time it was semi equal was in 1942 in Guadalcanal and that’s because the Marines trusted the M1903 over the M1 Garand (and just stubborn traditionalism) I think it would be cool if done right, but kind of unbalanced in favor of the US. Awesome! Glad you can get something from the video.
      In regards to the Poland and Finland factions, the devs ditched the roadmap a couple of months ago, the amount of backlash they got from the movement speed changes, and the disaster that was the update 15 “trailer” caused them to change what they were doing and focused on fixing the game rather than add more factions.

      On people yelling at you, if you are newer to commander, it might be advised to go into a vacant lobby to get a feel first, if you are good there, try an actual game, I found when starting out to let people know that it’s a first time playing commander, people tend to be more patient and try to help out more. (Not always but usually more often than not it seems) sorry people are treating you rough, it might be your overall level too, if you are a higher level, people might be less patient, just a guess. Honestly I think commander is the easiest. Seems very intuitive but I'm also a level 8 officer while my other classes are around 3 or 4.
    I personally have a trump card I use when I play and it wins me games even when I'm being beaten back. Convert all possible resources to munitions so you can use plenty of air support and recon especially. Recon will afford you and your officers a flow of data and enemy formations for various missions in game and or coordinationof air support. You must also be extremely liberal with supply drops. Essentially supplies alone can be enough to reinforce a point. Think about it, if your obj is under attack and your men are being killed then your garrison is probably next. If you keep supplies and even ammo on the point then you will be able to revive your point garrison.
    If you drop your men ammo then tell the officers to encourage RPG and demo teams to work together. Also last but not least make as many garrisons as possible and keep supply trucks at your point for either you or officers.

    • @ChaoticHammer_
      @ChaoticHammer_  Před 5 měsíci

      It’s one of those situations that you have to have a team around you to succeed as commander…or hope the other team is worse than yours lol
      The thing with converting everything into munitions is great and all but if you have tank crews that need tanks, constant reinforcement drops on defensive points and and anything else can make it hard to justify doing that sometimes, also without nodes…this is only effective for so long until your resources dry up, commander is unfortunately one of those wildcard where if the team is behind you and supports you, you get stuff done, if not…well…it sucks
      I do see what you are talking about though and certain scenarios can allow for what you have presented, but at the same times other scenarios might not, just the glory of the game

    • @480borat
      @480borat Před 4 měsíci +1

      If you have a solid understanding of how to play the officer role, the importance of tanks, garrison placement, basic tactics, recon, etc... then you won't hear so many complaints. Even if you haven't quite mastered the quirks of the commander abilities menu yet. But if you are taking on the role without doing your due diligence beforehand, you are often spoiling the game for your team. They shouldn't be so overtly toxic, but I understand why they would be ultimately frustrated. It's incredibly irritating when someone makes the executive decision to take the role in a packed lobby when they do not have the requisite knowledge to perform the basics without being constantly micromanaged by far more qualified officers. It's nice when people take the time to teach others, yes, but ultimately we game to enjoy ourselves, and expecting strangers to sacrifice their time and enjoyment of a game to school you on basic things you should have had the sense to learn on your own is selfish in my opinion. This is not to say you shouldn't practice the role. You should, but you should do it in a way that is considerate of others' time. Practice in sparsely populated lobbies. There you can make diabolical mistakes and not be crucified for it. Low stakes, less investment.

      My advice would be to practice in a very low player count lobby before you jump in to a big game. Get a true feel for it. Once you feel confident and ready to play for real, let people know you are new to commander. Typically (not always though) people will try to help you out. I would advise getting a little more experience though with the game though before tackling the commander role. I don’t think I took it until I was around lvl 70ish. So play it when you are ready

      Nah, you're wrong. You don't need that many hours. Play matches as squad lead, watch CZcams videos and for the love off god, understand your abilities and how garrisons work. I'm under 100 hours and I regularly win games and never get steamrolled. In saying that, I probably have another 50 hours in study of how the game works.

      That's pure bs mate, I started commader at lv 40, now I'm lv 67 and on a 15+ win streak. It's not overly difficult once you have watched a handful of videos like this. Garrisons, well places and plenty of eary. Nodes next. Command dont bully. Use supply trucks and be sure to make sure that your officers have their support player within 10feet of them at all times. It's a rule of thumb that if used well makes for garrisons wherever and wherever they're needed. We're winning games often without even needing the bombing run.
