  • This is the 3rd update of this popular Lodging video by Glacier NP expert travel Guide Steve Salis. The recent popularity of the Glacier makes it difficult to stay in a lodge in the Park as rooms must be booked many months and usually a year in advance.
    We tour the three Historic Lodges- Glacier Park Lodge, Lake McDonald Lodge and the Many Glacier Hotel and visit The Prince of Wales Hotel in Glacier's Canadian Sister Park- Waterton Lakes National Park.
    We also tour the Park's many Motor Inns- They are like motels and they are our guides favorite places to stay. They are located at Rising Sun, Many Glacier, Apgar Village and Lake McDonald. We also see the small "uncluttered" cabins.
    To determine the best place to stay you'll need know what you want to do in the park. So, hiking and wildlife at each each is discussed. Where you stay depends on
    You'll also learn about the campgrounds. Only few of the campgrounds accept reservations.
    When staying outside the park, you will need a Vehicle Reservation Ticket just to get in the park.

    If the Blackfeet Nation did build a nice hotel on the East Side. I would not stay there because if they are like the Navajo Nation. Then the hotel will be prohibited to sell any alcohol, beer or wine at the restaurant inside the Hotel. I stayed 7 nights at the Many Glacier Hotel starting July 24th. I'll never stay anywhere else but the East side of glacier. My top places to stay 1 Many Glacier Hotel 2 Swiftcurrent Motor Inn 3 St Mary Lodge. This was my 1st time at Glacier National park. Cannot wait to come back then drive back to Banff, Yoho and Jasper National Park.

    Great comprehensive video about lodging options at Glacier NP. Over the past 25 years, our family has stayed at a number of the lodges and motor inns in the park. My favorite are the Swiftcurrent cabins without a bathroom which are the cheapest places for lodging in the park. I would like to offer a different perspective about the Blackfoot Indian reservation. Six years ago,. my spouse and I visited their powwow in August and had a good time. Two years ago, we stayed at their A-frame cabins at Duck Lake. The A-frame cabins are similar to the Swiftcurrent cabins, but only cost us $70 per night.

    • @TheWestisBig
      @TheWestisBig  Před rokem +1

      Swiftcurrent is my favorite too. I stayed in cabin I4 3 or 4 years in a row. These days I do prefer a room with a bathroom though. I drove over to Duck Lake last year for the first time in many years. Good to hear its a nice place. Since its owned by the Blackfeet, and they are exempt from the Park's vehicle reservation requirements, I'm wondering if that privilege was passed on to those staying there. The new major construction on 89 may indicate the Blackfeet are building a major hotel complex to integrate their economy with the park which should benefit many.

    Stayed at Swift Current Motor Inn last night (June 14, 2023). Wifi is spotty and only available in the lobby of the office where you go to check-in and out. Definitely no cell phone service.
    I stayed in a room (motel building) that had an adjoining room. The sliding doors (one on each side) between the two rooms had simply latches. Plus, there was a small gap between the frame and the door. I could peek into the other room via this sliver. Obviously, any loud conversation in one room would carry to the other.
    As for hiking, I did the hike to Iceberg Lake. It was raining and as I got up in elevation, it was sleeting. I did see two young moose on the way up and two Bighorn Sheep on the way down.

We hope to go to Glacier either this summer or next depending on getting Going to the Sun Road reservations and room reservations. Our first choice for lodging will be the Mini Golden Inn because we need an ADA room for my sister. Hopefully we will be able to get both the road and room reservations since neither one is good without the other.
