  • Eric Allison is Chief Product Officer at Joby Aviation. Joby builds quiet, all-electric aircraft to connect people like never before. With up to 150 miles of range and the ability to take off and land vertically, the Joby aircraft will change the way people move while reducing the acoustic and climate footprint of flight.
Their long-term vision is to build a global passenger service that helps the world connect with the people and places that matter most, while helping to protect our precious planet. As well as strategic partnerships with Toyota, Delta, Uber, and many more, Joby has a team of more than 1400 engineers and experts working to bring aerial ridesharing to our skies.
Prior to joining Joby, Eric led the Elevate team at Uber, developing software tools that built on more than a decade of experience enabling on-demand mobility. His experience in aerospace research, electric propulsion, energy storage, vehicle autonomy, and composite structures led him to the CEO position at Zee Aero, where he spearheaded the development of Cora, an autonomous air taxi vehicle. Eric holds a PhD in Ae ronautics and Astronautics from Stanford, an MS in Aeronautics and Astronautics from Stanford, and a BS from the Milwaukee School of Engineering.
In this episode of the Drone Radio Show, Eric talks about Joby Aviation, their revolutionary EVTOL Air Taxi and the not-too-distant future of urban air mobility service.

I’d really like to know if JOBY has ever flown the S4 aircraft fully loaded with ballast equal to the weight of four passengers plus Luggage. So far it seems they’ve only flown it either empty or with one human pilot onboard. Im waiting for news of pilot+4 passengers +stated weight of luggage before buying any more Joby stock.

      Fair point.
But: Is the to be expected range decrease with payload really that critical?
Empty weight of the S4 is 4000/4500 pounds. Max payload is 1000 pounds. Range already proven (probably empty but we dont know): 155 miles.
So even if the 25 % more weight leads to 25 % less range (probably accurate for helicopter style flight, probably less for the plane like flight) this would mean 116 miles fully loaded.
That‘s enough for the business cases I see.

@marcelwestermann8273 that range isn't really proven. Where is the proof? Just their word? They should show a 20 mile empty flight at least.

If they can take 1000lb 100 miles they should make an unedited video carrying 500lbs 20 miles. A demo like that would multiply their stock price immediately. I doubt they can.

LMAOOO...oh my goodness you're still commenting on joby videos. How come you have no opinion about Archer aviation? I see your name under every joby video asking the same question

@OfHolding It's a free country so you can comment on joby. I'm just curious why your so obsessed specifically with Joby.? When they're other evtol companies as well. U keep asking about unediting videos..etc. I'm curious what you think about other evtol companies?

As close as we were 100 years ago.
    Never happening
    Zero feasibility equals zero adoption
If you want to open an IPO you need Mass adoption.
Because let's be real when you open an IPO you're paying back your investors.
Just ask yourself how will this process proceed in a highly populated dense area
You're not coming to my HOA
The Uber can come to my HOA
So where is the adoption to produce Mass production to bring it to a level of profit.
On top of that a single catastrophic failure would collapse the entire sector.
