I'm yet to begin either D&D or LARPing despite being vaguely interested for a while - but this gave me some good ideas! Thanks!
I mean, not seeing much of the people I know do it doesn't help. And I should have been better at just Googling local groups. It's more not exactly knowing what I'm getting myself into. The people I saw more of a while back were online in mmorpgs.
I know what you mean Kathy, sometimes you just need to show up and give it a go. I was really hesitant to start with but 8 years later I am still really enjoying it, also you may need to try several different larps to find the best fit.
I am thinking about giving LARP a go for the first time. Interestingly the one I am looking at is Swordcraft (Brisbane). Your vids have been helpful whilst I work away at mustering the courage to jump in, thanks!
Hi from swordcraft Brisbane! Great work mate!
Swordcraft Newcastle!!
Dont worry about looking like a dork dont let that anxiety get to you cause well, there's so so so many other people doing the exsact same thing and eventually normal will be the weird thing. You just gotta get into the environment (just things ive heard im a bit to broke to larp yet)

Of science and swords have a great directory of the Australian larps on there site
Defiantly agree, also have a cool store if your in the Melbourne area
So, I'm interested in doing my second LARP ever (first time was at age 15, prematurely I'd say), and feel the desire for roleplaying in a fantasy setting bubble up.
My question is, are there like systems to enter into, with pre-defined religions, clans, etc.? That would prevent hopping for one LARP to another because of character consistency. How does that work?
Hey Ruben, that’s a good question. So from my experience, it is very dependent on the LARP, some have a lore and history that is unique to the LARP and you need to work your character into it. Or they subscribe to an already existing world, Lord of the Rings, Warhammer, and so on. My advice would be if you did not want to create a new character for each LARP, treat each LARP like a different continent where your character needs to fit in with the rules and laws for their own survival. I hope that helps 😊
@@nerdcottage524 Thanks for your reply. What's your name, I don't believe you introduced yourself yet:)
I want to join LOTR LARPS, as I feel most resonant with Tolkien's world, and of course Peter Jackson's renditions. Do you know any LoTR LARPS in Europe that I could attend?
@@iamrubenmes Your right I haven't, Im Josh. I don't know any LOTR-specific larps, but have been told ConQuest of Mythodea and Drachenfest are fantastic. I would be very surprised if there where not LOTR themed groups in these LARP's due to the size of the events.
@@nerdcottage524 That would be amazing! I would love that so much!
I haven't found a LARP in Victoria that has really caught my interest or its far too expensive
