Orin (he/him), a young boy with Autism, and his father Chad (he/him) talk about what they need to do to better connect -- less work, less phone time and more family time. As the self-proclaimed #1 and #2 funniest members of their family, the two have a unique and humorous conversation about making more time for each other, Chad's fears for Orin, and partake in impressions of each other. At one point, Orin (who is very literal) even surprises his father with one of his answers to a question.
We'd like to thank Chad and Orin for participating openly & vulnerably in our project. We appreciate what they've shared with us and hope you do as well.

I love how Chad asked permission to impersonate Orin, really paying attention to his emotions and making sure he wasn’t offended.
He is the best Dad!
@@cf5tv552 The new video of you both now makes a lot sense. He's indeed compassionate and you feel truly secure in him. I love that security and it's all a function of you both.
I loved that.
@@cf5tv552 I enjoyed the videos ❤️. And learned something from each of them. I ask this because of the name of your channel and picture , do you guys plan to have channel?
@@beaulaw yes, eventually! I just have no idea what kind of content to post about.
I love seeing fathers being tender with their boys. They don’t always need tough love.
Absolutely. I wouldn’t want it any other way if I’m ever blessed with a son.
I completely agree Dina !!!
Right?!?💙💙💙
When the father said how he worried about his son being mistreated, the tears really started to flow. Just imagining people being cruel to this little boy breaks my heart. He’s precious, gentle, intelligent, and kind. It hurts to see how harsh kids can be and I can only imagine how scary it is to be a parent who worries about their child and how others treat them.
Sadly adults are even harsher. Our children are watching the adult bullies treat people exactly how we tell them is wrong.
@@numbernine3436 very true. children are so influenced by adults... especially through media. It’s become such a norm to treat others cruelly without seeing the faults in one’s own actions. It’s hard to educate children when they have just as many or more bad examples to follow than they have good ones.
Agreed. Hes so sweet
THE TEARS. They won't stop. What a precious boy and a wonderful dad.
The way he looks into his son's eyes...and also his wife's...deeply, gently, calmly, solidly.
Orin is unbelievably precious! He’s so smart, sweet, warm and wise. He’s unique for sure! All credit to his parents for just allowing him to be himself. “More time together, because you’re always working...Less time on our phones” really touched me. Childhood goes by so very quickly and you only get one. I hope that they can find a way. Finally, “Covid going away!” Amen buddy!
Thank you 💛 This was filmed before Christmas. Last week for Spring Break we went on an RV adventure, Orin had the best time! He is a great boy!
@@cf5tv552 I am really happy to hear that you’re getting to enjoy quality time together. Long may it continue. Stay safe!
Chad’s patience, both with his wife and now Orin, is mesmerizing.
Oh boy can I relate to "I'm an adult and it's against the law to harm children but..."
I felt that!
Lol
I have a friend whose 6.2ft husband got fed up with his son being bullied and went to the school and told the kid if he ever bullied his son again he would bit him up. The father was never allowed in the school again, I think he has to maintain 100 ft away from the school. He got in trouble but his son was never bullied again.
@@SageOliveira The father would feel proud of himself- he got the result he wanted.
I cried when he said that "he worries how the kids treat you at school - I want everybody to see you how I see"
He goes to my school 🎉
So many of us grew up undiagnosed and misunderstood. Seeing this boy and his father renews my hope.
I think Chad’s question about having Mom and home being enough is a thought many working dads assume to be true. I’m glad he asked that because the answer was probably something he didn’t realize.
Fathers, children need YOU. Not your money, not your long work hours. They need YOU. Moms and dads are both needed in raising a child. Please don’t assume having your wife or the mother of your child raise the kids is somehow sufficient. Such an eye-opening moment in this video.
Orin is precious.
Yesssssss🗣👏🏼
Yes. Just yes.
I think it’s definitely the culture of men having to be the providers and they put a lot of weight on their shoulders to provide . It’s not just about a kid needing a father, it’s also about a person wanting to spend time with another person they love a lot.
Easy to say.
"I'm fine with outside I just don't like forests.. and wild environments.."
I've never felt more understood. Thank you, Orin ,🖤😁
Yeah same lol
Dad: "What makes us family?" (Expecting literal answer)
Son: "Love."
Purest moment of the video
Put down your phones mom and dad! This was so beautiful, it broke my heart 😭.
Working with The Skin Deep definitely opened our eyes to our kids needs in a way that we didn’t realize we needed. Phones are put down a lot more these days. We are thrilled Orin could be so brave and honest with us. This exercise helped our family, we can’t recommend it enough!
Neurodivergent people bring so much beauty and new perspectives to the world. As a therapist, I hear all of the time that kids truly want to spend more time with their parents, so I'm thankful that Orin told his dad that it's really important to him.
Thinking of people treating him badly breaks my heart. 🥺🥺
Im crying! My son looks around the same age also with autism. I feel the fathers pain when it comes to other children. Worrying everyday is hard.
Hi! My brother happens to have autism also however our father is not accepting of that. It’s really hard on my mom she’s sacrificed a lot for my brother so I applaud you because it’s not easy
I love the conversations with children. So often they surprise us with maturity we didn't expect from them. Orin is such a fantastic boy, I'd love my little brother to find a friend as kind as him. And Chad is a great dad :)
He is the most precious little boy ever, what a treasure it must be to have him as a son! This was so lovely, I couldn’t help but cry a little
As someone who has a family member with Autism, I can confirm, the biggest thing they want is love and support ❤️
That father/man is so internally beautiful 👍
Orin’s teeth are too cute, reminds me of myself at that age pre braces 🥲
They are...they give him so much character and he looks even sweeter 🥰
I know 😍😭 Adorable!!!
Awww Orin is the sweetest, He's so intelligent and adorable
My goodness even the dad’s responses to his son’s answers!! Omg
❤️❤️❤️
My son has autism and he's the best person I know and very smart.
I wish I had had a parent who loved me this much and talked to me with so much emotion and honesty. What a blessing for both father and son.
I love how Orin tells his dad that he wants more time with his dad.
Omg...the second question, Orin got so somber...I teared up....I knew he was gonna ask for more time🥺 ...the love he has for his pops words spoken over him 🥰 #sweetchild
Smart young man. Such an adorable character. Great son and dad conversation
This was beautiful. I hope you guys continue to highlight relationships with kids who have disabilities. My little brother is 5 years old with autism and it’s comforting watching things like this. Knowing we are not alone 🤍
His honesty is so pure and can't be matched, great video!
He seems like an amazing dad, amazing. They are all so lucky to have him.
Omw what a precious little boy, his eyes and innocence yet so articulate with his words
It is so cool to see so many different perspectives throughout Skin Deep. My nephew is 7 and was just diagnosed autistic. He has always been special to me, we both get each other, but I fear when he goes to school, kids won’t see what I see. I totally understand Chad’s fears, but I am incredibly impressed with Orin’s explanations and how patient he seems. He has an incredible future ahead of him.
I like the kid’s honesty. Cool kid. This Made me cry
When he SAID there is nothing really wrong with our family.... 😭😭😭.. I cried thinking about my own and my big brothers childhood trauma 😭😭... Bless this dad for being such a good man
This is the sweetest little boy and the sweetest dad! Dad’s answers nearly brought me to tears.
This man has so much to deal with! He’s a true definition of man!! Big respect to him! This is a perfect example of healthy needed communication between father and son! 👏🏽❤️
Lolo he's calling dad out. Its cute how they look just alike🥰🥰🥰
Orin, you just gained so many new friends! Thank you for sharing this wonderful talk with your father, we enjoyed it so much!! You are a sweet, handsome, smart young man!
Orin is so sweet, his smile and his eyes are everything🥰 love this episode
I'm so in love with this family! After watching the parents' conversation is easy to see why he said "love" was what made them a family. Maybe not literal, but very obvious ❤ and the kid - I want him to be friends with mine
Hi Maria! If you love the family, look out for a video in the future with Abby and Grace--they're Sara and Chad's daughters.
@@TheSkinDeep looking forward to it!
"i want everyone to see you how i see you"
Awwww such Genuine real love.💛 I feel like Chad is definitely raising Orin too be an amazing young man... wishing their family nothing but peace, positivity & blessings!
The hardest thing about being a parent is definitely knowing you can't always protect them and the world can be cruel. I tell myself if we can create a safe space for our sweet kid and show them love and how to love themselves, hopefully it will be like a shield for their spirit that no amount of cruelty can destroy. Sure, things will hurt, times will get tough, we may not always be there, but I hope our love and his love for himself are eternal. I hope, I hope, I hope. I loved this one ❤🥲
Ohh wow! This is so deep , this young man just touched my heart, super smart. Well done to you the dad and mom for raising a fine young man 🙏🏿
Thank you, Orin is the best!
They are repairing my heart.
This one I should have not watched around onions. Whew!! 🥰
Such a sweet relationship ❤️ I just want to hug him and protect him.
Such a special bond between father and son. Loved this. Thanks.
What a great kid! As someone with a congenital brain disorder with symptoms that overlap with autism, and many good friends with autism, I hope he knows he’s not alone, and just how amazing he is! You can tell he has a big, strong heart, and is creative and intelligent. All of the people on the spectrum I know love and respect animals and other people, are very successful because of their creativity and intelligence, and they make a huge difference in the world every day, just being themselves. It makes me proud to share some of their attributes- even the oversensitivity to sensations and sound (one of the ones that can be the hardest for me to cope with). If Orin has this same challenge, when Covid improves, maybe some places in the community might be up for adjusting their light and sounds and occupancy so Orin can spend more time out doing things with the family. Here, we just got special shopping nights for people with sound, light, and crowd sensitivity. I think these things should be taken into consideration more when designing spaces for accessibility. Often what benefits people with autism as far as accessible design, benefits us all.
And you know, as a kid who was bullied for my differences, the best thing you can do as a family member is be and provide that safe space for that kid to come home to. I never felt that hurt by other kids because I knew I had a whole group of people who were my best friends who never judged me and always truly cared about me at home. The older I got the more I realized the kids bullying me didn’t have what I had, and I felt sorry for them. It’s easier to stand up for yourself and not get as emotionally hurt when you know who you are and what you have are important and you believe in them. It’s also good as adults for us to teach all children that bullying and harassment is not acceptable and to speak up and intervene when we witness kids getting bullied.
You’re very insightful ❤️
Jennifer ❤️ Thank you so so much for sharing your comments with our community and us. Your words are valued, as are you. Sending you love.
@@jaydev536 Brilliant! I love your thought process.
I just watched the video with his wife and now this. This family is beautiful. You can feel the love
9 minutes of pure love, pure meaningful beautiful love
God bless you both
Loved every bit of this video. As an aspiring pediatrician this was so refreshing. Both of them are smart and loving. Wishing them a forever happy life.
Love this so much, especially after seeing his and his wife’s video. He’s so tender and loving
I love when Orin calls him out on the phone thing. Parents? Lead by example. Take away the phones on the weekend. A lil time apart will open the heart.
In tears on my lunch break at work. Thanks a lot👊
He is such an adorable little lad 🥺
this made me tear up, in a beautiful way and i love the relationship portrayed. God bless them!! x
Orin is so bright and amazing.... I love him......
I love this so much. You’re both such beautiful souls xo
Aww the dad is coming along just fine. He's working on his frustration and temper to be a better person. Orin is a wonderful teacher.
I LOVE THIS LOVE! So pure, i had goosebumps.
Such a great conversation. I’m a Mom of 9 years old twins with Autism. I would love to play this game with them, it is so insightful. Much gratitude. ❤️✨
Did your children have speech delays?
@@Chev2k3 yes, and dyslexia. Thankfully, there is support for them and us as a family. How about you?
@@dyniellekent2127 my son is almost 3 years old. We are starting speech therapy this week. I just want him to be the best he can be. His social skills are not terrible however.
@@Chev2k3 Good for you, and him. I hope you both enjoy the process.
Orin is sooo adorable !! Such a wonderful little guy !!
They are so sweet together. Blessings to one another.
Loving these parent-child conversations of special kids with their parents. Amazing! Love you so much for that, #TheSkinDeepTeam 🙏🏾💜

This just warmed my heart!!!!
I would love to have this child as my own. He is so smart, beautiful, funny and caring. With parents like he has he is going to grow up to be such a catch. Love him.
This is so precious and heartwarming
That is the most adorable boy ever! I appreciate this family very much.
I am one minute in and I can't take the cuteness!! OMG Also he for sure has his dad's eyes :)

I love this. Oren is too sweet
I feel the dad on the fear of how other kids treat your kid
I'm not crying, YOU ARE
Orin is a great kid. I hope he knows it and he is super cute. He is gonne be a super handsome and well raised man, no doubt bout it.
Beautiful conversation! ❤️😭
oh man I wished I had a father like Chad , who stands behind me no matter what !!!! Great guys
What a good kid . ❤️ he reminds me of my son
I hve a brother with this diagnosis and it’s apparent that if you are a real man it will test you but then love will defy all odds of obstacles. If you aren’t mature enough as a person you could crumble. This man is wonderful
This. Was. Beautiful. 💕
Precious family, aww😭💛🧡🧡
