I just ordered the 7’1” medium-light two piece casting rod. It will arrive in two days. I’m really excited to get my hands on this rod and pair it with my Daiwa Tatula SV 103. It should be an awesome finesse casting setup!!

I have the Recon Elite H 7'1 it's a fantastic rod. The Feather in MH is great for topwater, Pop Rs, Sammy 85s, Diamante's etc. I'm going to buy as many as I can moving forward because for the money, you can't beat them.

Five years later & still barely any info on the feathers. Pleased to have found this & your followup from a couple years ago. That 6’9” has always had my attention as jerk/twitch rod but the MH had thrown me off. Appreciate the mention of reel weight needed for balancing out. Proper balanced combos make for such more enjoyable use. Thanks for the info!

Thanks for watching and glad it helped you in getting the information you were looking for. They are fantastic rods and the reason I made that video was because I couldn’t find any information out there for myself.
Have a great one and best of luck in 2024!

Hi Jamie. Great review. I used to use all Dobyns rods and loved them so much. My boat was in storage and all my gear was stolen. So I have to buy all new rods from scratch. I was so happy to come across the Phenix Feather series rods. Like you said in your review, they are like a $300+ rod in quality, sensitivity, and weight, yet they cost half the price. I have started Rebuilding my arsenal with all Phenix Feather rods. I am lucky enough to live 15min away from them in California and they are nice enough to let me come down to their warehouse and try all the rods for feel. I do have to tell you, if you haven't tried the Feather spinning rods yet, you have to check it out. The reel seat is all carbon fiber and no grip, so you have a straight connection to the rod blank. It is the most sensitive rod I've ever had. Perfect for really light weight finesse techniques and finicky fish. You feel everything. Such a great idea. I don't know why no one has come up with that idea before.

Been looking into these. Definitely picking one up soon. Too light not to try and need to work up to the K2.

Have the same rod with a curado 200k 50lb braid.... been using mostly for night fishing with 1/2oz and 3/4oz jigs...beside that been using it as a frog rod... its a good light rod for the money... its more of a heavy action rod rather than a true extra heavy.... still a good rod

Something about Phenix rod. I have the 7'3 heavy and it felt like a medium heavy which I don't mind

Long shot. How is the balance of the combo?

Only thing keeping me from pulling the trigger is the extra fast action. I don't know what phenix considers an "extra fast" action. How is the bend in these blanks? Enough for a chatterbait?

The 7’3” xh is not the best rod to use with a chatterbait. From experience, their 7’1” Hvy is about perfect. The 7’1” MH isn’t far off but is on what I would consider a lighter side. I think it just depends what your are targeting, heavy grass lakes, then the Hvy, sparse grass and lighter 3/8-1/4 oz chatter baits, MH. Hope this helps.

I’m of a 734 jig guy. Would you recommend their MH to be more in line with a solid backbone and softer tip? I’ve read reviews that said power up because their power/action rating seems slightly overrated for the designated class.
Hope you get a chance to read and respond!

    • @jamiepetrowski4902
      @jamiepetrowski4902  Před 5 lety

Griffin Schulz what you have read is true. If you like a 734 feel then the 7’1” hvy phenix feather would be the closest in comparison. The 7’3” XH might be a tad bit too stiff in the tip.
I have to get back on track with videos being out out. I will continue them on the other ones I have.
And just to let you know, the 7’1” MH phenix feather is my go to top water rod for walking baits like the Ima little stick 135. Perfect action and soft tip to walk with.

Power up. Heavy is like MH.

Would you recommend the spinning version 7’7 medium action for a 1/8 jig and a paddle tail soft plastics for speckled trout and redfish? Need something light and to be able to get some distance. These rods look awesome but have heard that the ratings on the action are on the high side as well.

This may be late but yes that is a perfect for for what you are doing. I use the 77m with a 1/8oz or 1/4oz swimbait head and 3.8 keitech swimbaits.
