I`ve planted sprouted potatoes in winter here in zone 8a central Louisiana. Freezes killed the stems/leaves but they re-grew. By February I had mini potatoes and some larger ones. The ones I planted were about to rot. My experiment worked though. I planted dry beans from a food pantry years ago and cooked the whole bean pods. I have no car so if I want fresh food I have to grow it. I have indoor and outdoor food growing right now. I have a MASSIVE mustard and turnip greens harvest right now. I`ve never seen mustard leaves this big...some are three feet long. Grown organically.

Helpful tip: if you do have a potato that gets exposed to sun and turns green it's still good for a seed potato. Just don't eat the green potatoes but any grown from the green potatoes are just fine to eat.

    Hi
    I like your presentation.
I wanted to say though I am pretty sure potatoes have adventitious rooting and that is one reason for buryingbthem deeply and that spuds may grow out of any layering of the burried plant material although they might not be so large and might simply be tiny and numerous.
Also when a potato is divided for planting it needs to be set out to ' suberize' that is dry down and develop a skin over the wound to attempt to stave off disease. In my experience cut potato plantings are more susceptible to disease and give a smaller plant structure and lesser yield.

Carrots thousands - we ate a lot of stew... hahahha .. we would put a silver 25 cent piece (80 +%) in our milk to make it last longer, seem to work... You inspired me with the bag potato video and then another potato guy came through my feed and he said to get “seed” potatoes online! He said the plants won’t be healthy if you don’t. 🤷‍♀️Now this video from you confirms that is not true. Since I don’t have a clue what I’m doing yet, it’s confusing at times as you try to learn.

  • @golfprocrastinator9519

Hi love your videos, I hope to find a video where you show yield from massive seed potatoes and small or even select cuts, as I have cut spuds 4 times and grow from them BUT I don't have the best soil right now to see if I am getting more from the complete spuds the larger spuds or the sliced sections. I'm guessing it's irrelevant other than the stored energy to get to the surface and get a jump start. Also it's weird to find the seed potatoes after finishing growing a new load of spuds fell and look 100 ready to eat.... okay not as nice looking as the new one but you know what I mean, have you tried to replant and already seeded potatoes? Or even eat one? Cheers

the woody bits themselves won't be a problem but if the bag is filled with compost that is only partially finished and wood based then you may run into nutrient availability issues... be sure to use plenty of liquid nutrients such as any of the various fertilizers on this channel
