The words flowed from his mind to his pen and onto the page as he sat at his desk that night. He had some free time so he figured he'd use it to get some personal work done. In the wake of the disaster that had shaken up his life two years ago, he had taken up writing at the suggestion of his therapist and had found that it was very therapeutic indeed. Creating whole new worlds and people truly helped him deal with the trauma he now carried with him. In a way it allowed him to face it, making characters who overcame various horrors, some of which were exactly the kind he had seen when his former hometown had gone straight to hell. Through his characters he could truly fight back against those undead monsters that had taken so much from him. The thought of that made him tighten his grip on his pen and he leaned in closer to the page as he continued to write.
After what only seemed like minutes, he decided to finally glance up at the clock and realized he had been writing for a good few hours. He had become so invested in his new story that he had completely lost track of time when he still had a few reports to finish up and file away. Sighing and shaking his head, he looked back down at his work. Though it had sucked him away from his actual job, he was still proud as he had managed to write several pages chronicling a man armed with a mere handgun and a knife making his way through an infected city to find his daughter. So despite everything, he couldn't help but smile a little and a small chuckle escaped his lips.
Then he pushed the pages to the side and opened a drawer to grab the reports he needed to finish.
"Alright, lets get these done..." He said to himself as he readied his pen once again.
With a writer's entry under a song made for writers I think it's safe to say we've come full circle :-)
PS: This one made me wonder what the (new) profession of that man might be...
@@SurvivalSpheres Hehe, true enough :) This is actually the third short story I've written in the span of a few days so I'm really proud of myself. To be honest when i clicked on the video I had only intended to listen but within moments a story started coming to me and I just had to write it lol. To answer your other question, I'm not 100% sure what his profession is. Since people said the pic in the vid was from the Shining, I considered that maybe he works at a hotel but I'm not sure if that would require reports to be filled out and such so perhaps it's just some kind of office job.

Having seen The Shining many times, it's hard to imagine ever feeling peace in that hotel. It's a violent, disturbing and dark place.
Fully agree. But let's not forget there is at least one save room... or wait... maybe even two! I'm thinking of the small office with the radio (that's broken later on), and the pantry, although that has the lock in the wrong side of the door, hehe.
PS: The above applies to the RE tradition. If we take an SH perspective, then the Gold Room's restroom would certainly be the appropriate save room location.
@@SurvivalSpheres Great points! I haven't read the book so I can only go by the movie. I saw the miniseries once so I can't remember it that well.
The room with the radio would be a perfect RE Save Room. It might be the most normal room in the hotel. Perhaps the manager's office (where Jack does the interview) would work as well. I don't recall there being a desk or chairs in the pantry.
The Gold Room's restroom is an interesting comparison to Silent Hill. Taking Silent Hill 1 as an example it could definitively work. There are many locations in the hotel that would be suitable to place a notepad; in the front lobby or caretaker's apartment for instance.
A survival horror version of The Shining could be absolutely amazing in the right hands.

The ambience. Oh how I welcome it.
I think this is one of my favourites of yours! Something about the sparse piano floating over the synth. It has a similar vibe to some tracks from Vampire: The Masquerade: Bloodlines - there's something dark but alluring. That low rumble in the background reminds me a bit Eric Brosius' work on the Thief trilogy, too.
I don't know that Vampire game. If you have any particular track in mind where I could start, please let me know! And thanks for the recommendation. I would have missed a lot of good music if it wasn't for the community here telling me about
@@SurvivalSpheres For me, it's ties in first place as unfinished masterpiece with Knight of the Old Republic 2. It starts as one of the best RPGs ever made, with many different ways to complete quests, then devolves into running a gauntlet of enemies for the last few hours with no way to do things stealthily or by diplomacy. The devs ran out of time, unfortunately. There a great unofficial patch which is regularly updated if you ever decide to play it. It's well worth a few playthroughs, as choosing certain vampire clans for your character changes aspects of the game quite drastically.

This track is like your older works. That's a good thing. Speaking of writers and other realities, you ever been part of a poet's podcast? I never, ever read or write but it was my only time doing so. On a small corner of the internet, a bit over 15 years ago, a small group of people would dial a number on the phone and recite their work - some of us being drunk, others being sober. But, there was one guy whose voice I can still remember. He was usually drunk and his rhyme and rhythm could only be matched by someone in a similar state. The words he used to write were incredibly haunting. He would leave us all speechless during these nights.

Good ear, I have indeed worked in a similar way this time as I had done for my older songs (and will probably do it more often, too, in the future). Thank you for sharing the memories, I have never heard of the idea of such a 'poet's podcast'. I assume no recordings of that special voice exist out there, do they? Or maybe at least a script / text?
@@SurvivalSpheres yes, there actually were recordings and published on the website in mp3 format. However, I cannot remember the name of it and I would even have to get in contact with the host of the nightly gathering. I wonder if he still remembers me especially considering we worked on something like this lol. You see, it was when Myspace was at its peak. G was a pretty cool guy for hosting those nights with us.

You really have a knack for picking an image to accompany your music. I had to look up the term 'disjunctive' but I guessed right, that it meant something along the lines of 'out of sync' or not quite right. The way Jack's sitting not quite in the centre of a symmetrical looking room is a subtle way of symbolising it.
And sometimes I do feel like many meaningful things in this reality are not right, like there's just something wrong with it.
At least there's wonders in this reality at the opposite side of the spectrum though, like your music. Cheers bud 😉😊
Have you looked a bit into that new trend about 'liminal spaces'? Where places are ordinary but something seems off, and you can't really say what. You comment made me think of that.

The feeling of being there previously. Well since playing a game called Prince Of Persia, I now think of time differently. Like, instead of it being a linear river, it's a constantly shifting ocean, speeding up and slowing down like. Really is indeed something relative 😛😜
