This channel is so underrated! I’m 58 and played all of these! Don’t forget about Dark Reign. Yes! Please cover the other ones.
Thank you mate, glad you enjoyed the video. I will def do the others - Tom
Nice, runthrough thx! For me Total Annihilation was my birth into RTS! I remember the box, and all the fun I had!
It probably is my fav RTS of all time for sheer fun and mayhem - Tom
Oh man, I would love a new Imperium Galactica ... Such a good depiction of a space opera/epic. We need another in our lives! Some "Classic Era" games ... Submarine Titans, Ground Control, and Dark Reign were all pretty prominent in the 90s as competitors to "The Big Three™" RTS games.
Great video, per the usual!
I would really love to see it just refreshed for the modern era, it was a great game. I tried to whittle down the choices but yes I can probably just do a 90s gaming scene vid on these topics too - Tom
Played almost all these games. Total Annihilation was THE game that got me into RTS and hardcore gaming back in 1997 (can't remember if it was on my 486 or Pentium). I had dabbled with gaming and coding on my Commodore 64 prior to that. BAR is THE spiritual successor to TA and SupCom.
Total Annihilation was superb.
Yes TA was probably some of the most fun I have ever had gaming wise overall - Tom
I'm not into RTS games (with few exceptions) but it was still fun to watch, thanks!
Thank you mate! Appreciate the support!
Not often I watch a 30 min vid! Really hooked me when I heard Hell March kick off!!
Scifi and Scifi fantasy are my favorite genres for entertainment in general. So this video is greatly appreciated.
Thanks for watching mate, glad you enjoyed it! - Tom
I think I've seen your channel before and this was a really great loveletter to RTS and you do a good job of covering the important advances and mechanics that were introduced. The first RTS I got my hands on was Command and Conquer and that got me hooked. I didn't always get certain games on release but usually got them within a couple of years or so.
My introduction to the Homeworld series was Cataclysm and it's probably my favourite RTS and I really love Deserts too.
My other highlights are Age of Empires, Total Annihilation, Dawn of War 1 & 2, and Warzone 2100, I love the first Tiberian Sun too and Ground Control always sticks out to me.
A great list of games you highlight there! and thanks for watching the video and glad you got something from it. I will def have to revisit the topic and look at the fantasy and historical sides of it.- Tom
Dave Johnson? I remember the character being called Dante in Imperium Galactica!
Also, got this under the Replay brand in the UK and the second story disk was in French!
Interesting I always recall his name differently 😂 but maybe you got the French character
I have mention the Ground Control series with it use of 3D for the first time IIRC
And the Earth 2140/2150/2160 series was underrated
Dune 2 was truly a game changer for me.
For the industry as well!
When you mentioned Total Annihilation it reminded me about their fantasy rts. It didn’t get good reviews but I liked it. One thing, the 4(?) playable races had, if my memory is right, very different unit types.
Hey I quite enjoyed TA Kingdoms too actually! I may mention it on a video if I cover the fantasy genre of RTS - Tom
This was a big one for us, hope people get something out of it!
Star Trek Armada 1 was an absolute blast. And a beauty! Too bad half of the MP matches crashed with network errors.
Star Sector also is one hell of a game
This channel just continues to push out absolutely amazing content!
Thank you mate, it was some work to make but glad you enjoyed it! - Tom
Well put together video. Probably my first sci-fi rts is going to be carrier command, although I'm not sure if it even falls into that category. Dune 2 was my next standout. Loved the warcraft series, C&C, yet never got into Starcraft.
When two worlds war! Can’t find it any more but it was a great game.
Awesome content, Def watching this one
This channel is going to the next level, great walk through gaming history.
@@nashrussell753 Tom really pushed the quality here and we want to bring many more of these videos to you 😇 - Luke
Wowowow that was really interesting. Fantastic video, this channel is a total gem!
Glad you enjoyed it mate! - Tom
I’m a sucker for Total Annihilation (Froggy vs Snail - Hooded Eyes Edition) ….Very hard to access tho … be well ⭐️🤗⭐️🐸
That is a version I am not too aware of 😂 thanks for the support!
I looking forward to your videos on Fantasy RTS and Historical RTS
Awesome list!
Thanks for watching!
It saddens me that "Metal Fatigue" never took off. It brought a whole lot of innovation but somehow didn't find fertile ground. I guess people just wanted every RTS to be the next Starcraft at that time....
I never actually played it to be honest, it just kinda skipped me by. Is it on GOG?
@@LTGamingCZcams Steam and GOG alike and it's a steal even when it's not on sale. 5 USD/EUR.
@@LTGamingCZcams It is, and it's less than 2 EUR/USD right now. And the GOG version automatically installs N-Glide too, which is a tool necessary for it to run on modern GPUs.
No love for Ground Control? Aw 😢
You should have given a few seconds to Warcraft 1, 2 and 3. They were played by so many back then. With all of their custom maps. Whole genres were born of those custom maps (ex. Dota).
I mentioned this in the intro but I am only focused on Sci Fi titles for this one
🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩👍👍👍👍👍
How could you not mention Supreme Commander?
Fun fact, the original C&C was meant to be a direct sequel to Dune 2, also set on Arrakis, but some short-sighted idiot decided not to allow Westwood to continue with the Dune licence - so spice became Tiberium and the rest is history.
That is interesting but makes a lot of sense from the timeline of things - Tom
lol, it started play 33 mins unskipable add :D sry but no ...
We used to be able to turn them off but now it is no longer possible.
Just close CZcams/the tab and open the video up again.
Either you get a different ad or no ad at all.
