  • This video is not the end all be all, but I personally believe it is a very simple and effective way to clean your AR. If you have thousands of rounds down range, you can follow these same steps, but take more time to make sure you are getting all of the carbon buildup. If you have any questions leave those below, and don't forget to hit that subscribe button!

Thank you for posting this video. I’ve shot my AR-15 a handful of times but now I think it needs a cleaning and lubrication. I’ll reference this video to anyone that needs help. Thank you so much 🙏

I was an armorer in the US Army, so I have one humble suggestion: Use a medical, wooden handled swab to do the cleaning, instead of the paper-handled ones from the drugstore. The non-sterile ones are pretty cheap, especially if you buy 12 dozen. These swabs will not shed strands of cotton, and will hold together a lot better than the drugstore ones. Good video. Thanks.

I've never owned a modern sporting rifle and field stripping was a concern. You're video and the complex simplicity that is the genius of the AR platform made it fun rather than intimidating. Don't buy the standard q-tip, as it is prone to fall apart. Get the long wooden swabs. They have a more compact head and are perfect for this. Also buy some pipe cleaners. Anyone that has served in the military and has had to break down their service rifle and clean it, knows the value of a pipe cleaner. I personally stay away from oils and lubricants like Hoppe's. If CLP (Cleaner, Lubricant, Preservative) is good enough for the military, I find it works well on my personal firearms. Anytime you put rounds through the rifle, there is bound to be fouling inside the barrel, so its just good practice to run a cleaning brush and patches through it.

The Del-Ton Sierra 316L was my first sporting rifle, and i added the SigSauer romeo&juliette 3x magnifier and reddot sight combo set. I got mine on sale for 575 brand new. I had seen some great reviews but they are manufactured just 45 minutes away from me in my home state of N.C. so buying locally was also a buying factor. After just 1 week i decided i wanted another Del-Ton so i went back and bought the Del-Ton Sport- mod2. Both performed flawlessly and im looking into the alpha. 308 model next. When it comes to great performance at an incredible price Del-Ton has a loyal fan base and will continue to sell great products at great prices. I have seen no other budget firearm manufacturer get so many great reviews as Del-Ton and i expect to see them keep coming.

Thank you for the video sir! I took my newly acquired AR to the range today, I was either having an issue with the ammo firing or the rifle jamming, so I broke it down and cleaned it as much as possible with your video as my guide. Can’t wait to get it back to the range and see if it’s better

Did your problems go away after cleaning it? My son had the same problems with my new AR-15 when he sighted it in - misfires, jamming, dented cartridges, etc. Today we took it out to sight in a new scope (only the second time it’s been fired) and had no problems using the same ammo as before. He thought that maybe the factory cosmoline-type grease may have caused the earlier problems. I may clean it real well tomorrow to remove any remaining factory grease.

Nice video. I would love some simple instructional videos on how to dial in scopes properly. I've been target shooting pistols my whole life. Although I've always appreciated the value of having rifles, it was never my thing. But now... Slowly, it's becoming a thing. I'm pretty good at 100 to 150 yards for what I have. But now, I'm at a point where I'd like to be better at farther ranges. My eyes are shot because well .... I'm old. 😆 so using better scopes have now become a thing. I have a bore laser kit. And was able to dial in my ACOG ok. But the regular scope is way out of my wheel house. Anyway... I love the simplicity of your cleaning video. I know scopes are a bit more complex... But perhaps you can give a crash course for dummies with a similar flair that you did with this video. Thankyou for your time for this video btw.

Great video, but barrel cleaning is definitely necessary...
Run a lubricated (CLP or whatever cleaner you use) patch down the barrel from back to front,
use a barrel brush with your cleaner on it from back to front,
and then run dry & (lightly) sprayed/oiled patches (alternating between them) through until clean.
