  • Molybdenum is considered a trace mineral. This means your body only needs small amounts. But just because you don’t need much, it doesn’t mean it’s not important. So let’s take a closer look at the essential functions of molybdenum. We’ll then discuss how gluten can cause a deficiency and symptoms to look out for as well as the best foods to eat to prevent a molybdenum deficiency.
Molybdenum is a cofactor for several vital enzymes in your body. This means that these enzymes need molybdenum to carry out the biological reactions they’re responsible for. In other words, without molybdenum, these reactions wouldn’t occur.
On the next DOZ, we will take a deep dive into this trace mineral that helps metabolize sulfites and has various other functions in the body!
Make sure to join us at 6 PM Central on Tuesday!

Years ago I represented a local company called Biotics Research and my supervisor (Charlie) and I were at a convention. He was a broker and I was his rep. Someone asked him about Rubidium. You know, Dr Osborne, sometimes you just can’t recall all the details. Your mind draws a blank. So when Charlie was asked why one would need to take it he stammered, looked at me for a second and then said (I’m still laughing),”it’s taken when your rubids get very, very small.” That was good enough for the man he was speaking to and he ordered some. OMG Charlie laughed about that. Some memories are so wonderful.

This makes me wonder if gout might function in some cases as a symptom of cancer. Thanks for the great info!

I believe the basis of gout is sugar consumption and cancer thrives and loves sugar. I know many gout sufferers who didn't die from cancer. They were lied to by the doctors who convinced them to stop eating red meat and died from heart attack or stroke. When the body is brought to an acid condition by eating lots of sugar there are so many problems that it's hard to categorize them. Stop eating carbs and sugar and the gout will go away.

My dad had gout for years and never once got cancer of any kind. He worked through havin his 1st heart attack. 10yrs later; Had several strokes, and died of a heart attack...
And cancer cannot live without sugar. Sugar is almost in everything you eat, very very sad.

When it comes to getting "adequate amounts" of molybdenum from foods, (my preference is to get at least 80 mcg per day average), I'm wondering if taking desiccated Beef Liver supplements, in the form of freeze-dried capsules, can effectively accomplish this. Also, what about other Beef Organs dried supplements, such as Heart and Spleen -- how much molybdenum is typically contained in them? Does it matter what part of the world the cows were raised in? New Zealand vs. South America, for instance. Does anybody know of a good article, or other source of information, that goes into specifics about how much molybdenum is contained in the equivalent of 3 ounces of fresh beef liver? And/or ... what variance there might be to those amounts, depending on what part of the world the cows came from?
When I've tried to do layperson research into amounts of molybdenum which can be found in common foods, it always seems like the microgram (mcg) amounts are VERY small. Thus, likely actually insufficient for the several foods which are often listed as 'good' sources of this mineral. Many food sources listed have *high Oxalates*, or other detrimental aspects, RE: optimal diet. Beef organs seem to be the best source, especially liver. However, I'm frustrated due to the lack of details about 1) what amounts are found in which organs, and 2) which parts of world (if any) have the best mineral yield -- especially of the liver. Given that different environments are likely to yield differing amounts of molybdenum, selenium, and a variety of other desirable nutrients.
One reason I am very cautious about taking a molybdenum supplement, especially in amounts exceeding 100 mcg daily, is that Mo is a "very potent chelator" of Copper, I've read. Thus, it could easily harm one's bio-available copper, which is a hugely important nutrient. Yes, I want the benefits of Molybdenum but not the downsides of an artificially high amount of it! Thus, food is my preference. Another question I have (if anyone here knows the answer): How much molybdenum is typically found in "muscle meat", such as a steak, versus what is typically found ('micrograms per serving'), in a cow's "organ meats"?
    Thanks!

Go to Dr Ben Lynch to learn about the genetics and get a genetic test to see if you need to supplement it. His supplements are Seeking Health. He explains about the MTHFR and other gene deficiencies. You will understand how you don’t need to supplement your genetic deficiencies. He has a site to join where he explains and takes comments directly. The link is on his seeking health app. Hope this helps answer your questions.

@@hc5327 Thanks! That was super helpful. I already take the 'Seeking Health' B complex supplement, formulated by Ben Lynch. It's called "B Complex Plus", and has superior (bioavailable, or "active") forms of most of the B-vitamins, and in amounts that I am agreeable with. However, I was not aware of the other things you described. Thus, very helpful.
'Seeking Health' has a molybdenum supplement that seems pretty good. Problem is, it's 500 mcg per tiny capsule. Way too much, and there is no easy way to divide it up into smaller doses. Outside of getting tested - for my nutrition levels and genetics - I don't want to megadose on it. Especially since the consequences of overdosing on it sound very bad.
In wondering if eggs have a good amount of molybdenum in them, ... an interesting question (to me) is "Would that depend on how much molybdenum is in the food that they eat (whether foraging or human-fed) , or even in the water that they drink?" Maybe nobody really measures these things. Comparing the quantity of a micro-mineral found in foods in different geographical areas of the world, or even country, with different amounts of molybdenum found naturally in the environment. I'm wondering: where do they even get the molybdenum to put into the capsules (sold as nutritional supplements) in the first place?
Your reply was very helpful. Thanks, again.
