    Only the first party member is properly initialized as ?????? - the speedrunner never triggers an event (like Naming character) to initialize another character. All values are 0, causing the &&&&&& names, Terra sprite, Blonde color palette, and not existing in combat. Fun Fact: ?????? isn't the same character as Terra, since there are only 12 party member slots (plus two guest slots - part of the reason Gogo and Umaro can't equip Espers and there are no other guest characters in the World of Ruin) that have to be shared between all characters such as the actual cast and, say, the ten moogles that help you out early on in the game. Most people that skip characters with different glitches wind up with a useless moogle named Kutan or something in their place later for that reason.
    A haunted house later on has doors (actually NPCs that don't talk or move) opening and closing - this is done by cycling what NPCs are present every few seconds. Tricking the game into keeping this code active outside the house and even in other save files is critical, and also causes bugs like party members appearing in cutscenes. It's causing that "clunk" sound every few seconds. This allows things like leaving Arvis's house via the front door (invisible NPC blocks path) and getting Ragnarok from an NPC smith that shouldn't be there yet.
    The defense north of Narshe is always there, it's just normally not possible to walk there yet. Leaving Arvis's house via front door lets you simply walk to the Defense of Narshe instead of being blocked at the front gates.
    The speedrunner uses the Defense of Narsh "press Y to switch active party" as well as saving/loading to trick the game into moving a party member to the coordinates of another party member, BUT on the map they were on - letting them teleport on that map. There is a secret entrance in Figaro's Jail that leads to a cave in the World of Ruin which you are supposed to come out of waaaaaay later in the game - again, this is always there, just inaccessible.
    There's a glitch involving the Tent that starts the Floating island cutscene - your guess why is as good as mine, but you are on the airship at the end of it, just in the World of Balance when you need to be in the World of Ruin.
    Getting a game-over boots you to your last location you saved, but if you have the airship and didn't have it when you last saved it gets dumped at that spot. Some people play the whole game without saving to get the airship, die, and have it when they start the game.
    The 6 minute gameover timer from the Defense of Narshe event is still running for most of the run, normally when it runs out you get a game over because they broke through your defenses. It boots you out of combat if you are in combat, but ending the final Kefka fight that way means it plays the ending cutscene before it can give you a game over, and the ending cutscene remains at "The End" rather than ever ending.

    • @sporedoutofmymind
      @sporedoutofmymind Před 3 lety +6

      This is accurate but I believe the timer is from the Tzen house. There's no timer in Narshe, it's based on whether a soldier reaches Banon (and I think when it's offscreen the soldier movement is paused)

      The sad thing for me is that I had a final fantasy game that I played as a kid, but I can't figure out which one it was. It was most likely 4, 5, or 6, because I remember the overworld having the weird sperical graphics that were frequent on the SNES. I also remember falling into a whirlpool that ended up being an underwater maze, and I also remember a sky castle/temple thing with bright blue knights and feathery creatures.

    In case anyone is curious about Terra’s blonde hair, Amano originally drew her with blonde hair, however when they got around to programming her, an executive declared she and Celes were too similar and requested they change it so players wouldn’t get them confused. They already programmed her as blonde, so they had to swap things around. Blonde Terra here is what they initially intended for her.

    • @mewimi
      @mewimi Před 8 měsíci

      In this case, this isn't coded into the hard game, this is because the blonde Terra's are actually taking from Celes' pallet ( see armor colors for reference ). Sprites work weird. For example if you were to alter Edgar's hair to blue, Sabin and Celes' hair would also be blue.
      The memory manipulation is probably a part of why this happens, it may also have something to do with Celes being furthest to the left of the party members on the snowfield map. Just before event initialization.

  • @yunakitty2
    @yunakitty2 Před 4 lety +13

    But if you have to make a 4+ hour save file to trigger the door glitch and then you have to save over it to do the other stuff, doesn’t that actually extend the length of this speed run? Or is there a way to do it without erasing that first save file?

    • @neerrm
      @neerrm Před 4 lety +5

      The creation of the save file isn't considered part of the run, hence the "New Game+" moniker. Future runs can be done by highlighting any save that has the door timer active, so thankfully setting up for another run doesn't mean playing through the entire game up to that point again.

      Its not only them who does this, most of the gaming industry do. Because remaking a game without meeting their sale quota would make them lose funds. although ffvi did get a port on steam and mobile, some old players mocked it for looking ridiculous(like locke looking like a drunkard with big belly sprite), also with this reason its hard to appeal to old games people love, they love a remake/remaster, but at the same time hate the changes.

      Damniel Omaygad It was the 3rd FF game outside of Japan so they labeled it as 3 for US, EU etc.

      @hadesfades Před 3 lety

      What about 3, it’s completely different then 6, or are you confused about this one being called 3, in the US the game was released as 3 because we didn’t get the original 2 the original 3 or the original 5 in the US, we did get the first game the fourth game and the sixth game, so that people wouldn’t get the confused with the skip they just called 4 the second game and 6 the third game, so if you see a cartridge for FF 3 for the American version of the SNES then it’s actually FF 6 and if you see a cartridge for 2 it’s actually 4, also sorry for the super long comment it’s just that it can be confusing

      It is FF VI, but in America the games didn't came in the order they were released. FFVI was the third FF released on America, that's why in the first American version it was called FF III (on post versions it was corrected).

    • @rkrenicki
      @rkrenicki Před 4 lety

      Final Fantasy 6 was called Final Fantasy 3 in North America. Final Fantasy 4 was called Final Fantasy 2 here as well. We did not get the real FF2, FF3, or FF5 until much much later.

    • @LAZERFIST
      @LAZERFIST Před 4 lety +2

      This has to do with the Final Fantasy games that were released in North America, compared to the actual release of the Final Fantasy Series. The original Final Fantasy was sent to NA, however 2, 3, and 5 were not, when they ended up sending 4 to NA, we would have only had the first game in the series, so going from Final Fantasy 1 to Final Fantasy 4 would not have made any sense (and the internet was not big at that time). So in NA Final Fantasy 4 became Final Fantasy 2.
      To complicate things further, Final fantasy 5 was also not released in NA, so again we had the problem when 6 came out, they could not call it Final Fantasy 6, as so far, in NA only FF 1 & 2 (really 4) had been released, so they had to call it Final Fantasy 3. After this they finally got their act together and just started releasing their titles worldwide in the correct order, but during this time this probably caused even more confusion because if you played Final Fantasy 3, and Heard Final Fantasy 7 was coming to Playstation, you would have thought what the heck happened to 4, 5, and 6!
