  • Pho, the Vietnamese noodle soup, is some of the tastiest and most comforting foods. It consists of a beef broth, meat, noodles and fresh herbs. It takes a bit of time to prepare, but is incredibly easy and well worth it :) Enjoy!

    Beef shank - 750g
    Beef bones - 750g
    Water - 2l

    Star anise - 2 stars
    Cloves - 1/4 cup
    Onion - 1-2
    Garlic - 1 head
    Lemon grass - 2 sticks
    Salt - to taste
    The Garnishes:
    Garlic - 1-2 cloves

I have to admit, I could've done a couple of extra steps. Adding fish sauce to the broth is something you should do, but I have a love/hate relationship with it. Also, I was a little too excited to eat and forgot the sriracha/hoisin sauce dip for the meat 😁

Next time boil the meat for about 10 minutes and throw out the water then wash the meat well. Now you can start the broth. This is a better method than skimming for a clear soup.

S'up, man. I already saw your comment on the fish sauce lol but I have a few other suggestions. Try adding some rock sugar as well as some Vietnamese mushroom seasoning (or chicken seasoning if you can't find it), fennel seeds, and dried shrimp for the broth. They actually use sea worms to flavor the broth in Vietnam but dried shrimp works just as well.

Oh cool' thanks for all the tips! 😁 I think I can get a hold of most of these. How about palm sugar? Can I use that? It's just because I have it in the pantry.

@@ROLcooks Not a problem, man! Cooking is my favorite hobby and I love learning and helping others as a passion. Palm sugar should work just fine. I've seen people use white sugar and even brown sugar before. That palm sugar is an authentic Pad Thai ingredient though! Well.. as authentic as Pad Thai is 😅
