Bastianini's voice is pure gold.
Sono perfettamente d'accordo con ditogam.What a shame they did not film this performance in 1955 so it could later be tranferred to video.Callas and EB must have been superb in this 'Traviata'. Secondo me il Germont di Ettore Bastianini recupera un barlume di umanità, in un personaggio rigido, formale e in fondo un pò ipocrita.

Una Violetta rassegnata e generosa, che riesce a trascolorare il suono man mano che arriva la rinuncia in un unicum spossato e intimissimo. Qui la Callas ha fatto la storia di quest'opera.
GB, Maria ci ha dato tutto ma ci ha anche tolto la voglia di ascoltare le altre nello stesso ruolo...
This is my all time favorite recording of one of most magnificent work from Genius Verdi . What is more wonderful to hear and see - Callas, Pippo, Bastianini, great Giulini and fantastic decoration and staging by Visconti. One can see by his photographs and delight with them , and what a SHAME they did not realized to make a video of this treasure, it would be absolutely priceless.Thank you many times making and posting this beautiful video

Thanks... what happens here at nine minutes exactly after the starts, no voice ever had (including Callas) that kind of pain she expresses here and right after this parts stops and continues on the next scene when it stops here.(wrong cut) I have the original private recording from 1955 and it's just unrepetable. love István
I'm not sure you're meant to find Germont sympathetic at this point . As you may know, the return of the repentant Germont in the last act does not occur in the play. It was Verdi's own idea.
