Beautiful! Great tonality! Sister Rosetta White. I"ve been on a 57 year quest for an LP and now I'm chopped down to 1 1/4 legs I can't stand up and have to play sitting down and weight is a concern due to nerve damage in my stump so I've been looking at LP Studios for awhile BUT the colors offered ahhh aren't for an "original" era 60s kid. The white is gorgeous!!!

Get some of the gray Scotchbrite pads, dip them in water, and run them up and down the neck for a minute. Check how much of the finish has been removed. If you're happy with the new feel stop, otherwise continue with a wet pad and remove more of the paint. This makes a big difference in feel.
Pickups & electronics are easily changed, and the nut no longer needs to be upgraded. Overall, an Epi LP is a really good deal.

Gotta love Alpine White although I’d probably remove the pickguard. And I do have Steve Jones in my influences. Regarding the coil split I’d rarely use it but could be useful when I’m gigging again.

I bought the smokehouse burst at GC a week ago for $449. I didn’t really take a good look at it till I got home. The deciding factor being the reduced price. But I’m happy to say that I have fallen in love with my Epi LP and the smokehouse burst is fantasticly beautiful. I love it! Im going to wait to try it out on different amps since all I have right now is the orange 12. I have a fender champ 12 that needs a new vacuum tube. One is on the way in the mail right now. I’ll try it out then decide whether to go with some Seymour Duncan’s/ Gibson’s humbuckers or stay with the Alnico pros for now. They are made in the US anyways so…

When I was a lot younger when you bought a low price guitar they were pretty bad compared to the nice brands. But today due to modern manufacturing techniques there are so many fantastic very good quality instruments that are very affordable and are a real match for the premier brands that is a fact as many you tube reviews demonstrate and the playability and tonal sound quality are great. I think this Epi is very good all round. I have Gibson Fender PRS and Epiphone in my collection and the Epi is as good and super to play.

The primary difference here will be P90s vs humbuckers. Either is a great choice, truth is if you had both it would be the ultimate in studio versatility! To approximate the versatility of both, you could look at a model with coil split capabilities like the Les Paul Modern, which is a great value with ebony fretboard too. If you're trying to stay under $500 and could only choose one, I would personally choose the Les Paul Studio. I’ve definitely found that the coil split in Epiphones makes a more drastic difference than the coil tap in the Gibsons. The tap in my Les Paul Classic doesn’t seem to change the tone much at all, and just introduces single coil hum, but in my Epi 335 you can tell it’s actually only using one of the coils.

@@BOBANDVEG It depends. If you are driving a single coil, with a capacitor made for humbuckers, you are over driving it, if anything. But it really depends on how it's wired. There is a volume change, in pretty much every set up. It can be really annoying, if you are swapping mid-song.

I have been playing Les Pauls for ages and I have never heard about a different type of coil split between Epi and Gibson, idk about that one. I think what Gibson does is a tuned split, where they add just a bit of the other coil or something so it does not hum as much, it also does not split all of the way. Its like borrowing just a bit of the other side of the humbucker to reduce noise.

I have lost count I have about dozen Epiphone Les Paul's . They are all different . Some play better than others their sound varies and their weights are between 8-11 lbs. Do not know if I will ever get a Gibson I am an Epiphone fan . The only thing they is they will not gain in value like a Gibson but for me that is ok .

@PlayandTradeGuitars It popped up on my screen right after I sent the question. I love my new Gibson. But the bargain hunter in me is cringing, The EPIPHONE Studio in the Alpine White or the Wine Red were both stunning and would have been more than sufficient for me. And saved me $1000. Semi sigh. Chinese Epiphones have impressive finishes, but in my experience they almost always have fret issues. If you go over the fretboard with a fret rocker there's a good chance you're going to find high frets in more than one area. It was less of a problem when they were made in Korea and Indonesia.

Gibson owning the factory and having a handful of Americans on site doesn't change the fact that they are made in China by Chinese workers. They roll out over 700 guitars a day. I really don't see the point of buying this guitar. It's $499 which it's fine for that price but if you're going to spend $500 anyway you might as well wait a bit and save an extra $220 to buy the white Epiphone Les Paul custom.
You'd get the pro bucker pickups which sounded way better than these ones, and you'd get a legit ebony fretboard. You'd also get CTS pots. It's just a much better sounding guitar for $220 more

Just a bit of advice for guys who want a Gibson who have never had a Gibson. Don’t go for an in between guitar like Epiphone just because it’s cheaper. You’ll end up regretting it and will start modifying it to make it closer to what you initially wanted. You’re better off checking the used market and getting what you actually want.
