    I've actually used this trick on a second old board bag which was jammed much tighter and I thought was now beyond use. I properly soaked the sliders and teeth with cheep white vinegar, and with the toothbrush, made sure that the bristles got right inside the slider. As the bag had a fin slit I could also get at the whole thing from the inside too. I gave it about 3 minutes and then with a strong pull got the sliders moving. Once they'd moved I could see the crystallised salt on the teeth that had jammed the system so I dissolved this in the vinegar too. Whole thing worked perfectly. Then just rinsed down with the hose to get rid of the vinegar, dry it all out and done. Great tip, wish I'd known about this years ago. For the cost of 50ml of cheep vinegar you've saved me buying 2 new board bags (about £400). Thanks very much

      that is so good to hear mate! and exactly what this channel is all about. i'm really stoked to hear this, and it makes the whole process of making a video in my spare time (which i don't have much of these days!) worthwhile. many thanks for the positive feedback and enjoy using the bags again -KS

    Thank You! I had tried several things including, zipper lube and WD-40. None of the worked. However, this vinegar method worked fast! The zippers on my life vest were frozen hard and wouldn’t move! This method works!!’

    Worked a treat. The zipper on my relatively new luggage was jammed with salt from snowy streets, and this fixed it. I didn't even have to wait over night - just twenty minutes or so. Thanks!

    Totally worked. I had a O'Brien Ski that had been in its' bag several decades. Ski made in the early '70s and able to get zipper unstuck easily .Vinegar and toothbrush used only and took less than 10 minutes.

    I just tried this and it worked! I’d just tried out a brand new Rip Curl shirt and pants, and after going with the zipper down for a little while, I went to zip it back up, and the pull wouldn’t move. I left it sitting for about a month and thought about buying a new set if I couldn’t fix this one. I will need it for tomorrow, though. No time to buy a new shirt. I just remembered your video and tried it out. Thanks so much for posting this! You saved me from having to spend more money on a new wetsuit shirt.

    Thankfully I've not had a problem with the wetsuit zips but board bags, board bags - loads of trouble. I'm only a holiday surfer so once or twice a year I have a tussle with the zips. No matter how I rinse them and lubricate them with any of the following WD40, GT85 or silicone lubricant grease they still fur up. A couple of weeks ago I resorted to the heat gun with a concentrator nozzle to free them up. Obviously you have to be careful and I'm not sure that I would want to do it on a wetsuit. I've been back a week and am going to thoroughly wash the zips blow out the excess water with an air blaster and I may try wax or a dry lube protector like Dry Moly or perhaps drip some candle wax into the slider. Come September I'll start the wrestling match again and if need be try the vinegar from my fish and chips. Thanks for the tip.

      wow, sounds like you're very familiar with this issue! one possible option for your situation (if it continues after the vinegar etc) is to maybe get boardbags with large chunky plastic zips in future. they seem to have less zip issues and obviously rust/corrode less. good luck mate! -KS

    So I thought I would save the vinegar option for last and tried Pink Solution first. Pink Solution is a degreasing soap.
    Voila! I managed to get the zippers on my pontoon boat unstuck. I tried before with WD-40, no good. The teeth on the zipper are nylon and the Zipper Pull is metal. Everything was seized because I use it in saltwater.
    I used a spritzer of to spray the Pink Solution.

      @@kookshed it hasn’t worked yet, I even tried rust calcium remover and scrubbed with a toothbrush but the zipper won’t budge. I don’t want to force it and have it come off the track, but I need this to open. Ahhh!

    • @kookshed
      @kookshed  Před 3 měsíci

      @@releasetoreceive fair enough mate, sounds like it's fused on pretty solid! another viewer suggested using a pin to get the stuff into all the nooks and crannies of the zipper head and zip track teeth that you can as well, to help it get to work everywhere. if none of that works, maybe try a little WD40 in there or even coconut or sewing machine oil. but they are last resorts that don't necessarily work in this situation, it sounds pretty bad, i'd just keep reapplying and hope for the best. good luck -KS

    Try DENATURED ALCOHOL, like the kind the sell for camping fuel or as cleaning solvent. I had to destroy. my new soft fishing tackle bag and my Costco beach chair back compartment. Put a little denatured alcohol on the stuck zipper area and it will dissolve the salt within seconds! Try it and let me know if it works for you and pass it on!
