My daughter is a new stylist and she was SHATTERED when the first stylist who she REALLY admired treated her like crap. She never forgot it and I am going to direct her to this video as she admires you so much; to hear that you went through the same thing will really help! XOXO

As a hairstylist I am appalled that your daughter got heart broken! That stylist has a low self esteem and brings people down to bring herself up! There are some great Facebook hairstylist groups who build each other up. Tell her to check them out! I’m sure she will do great!

On a funny note: I was working on a mannequin, doing a rainbow prism, I think, and my 20 yr old son came in, and sat down to watch because he thought it was looking cool. And I was SO focused, and was talking to myself like a mad scientist, and said, "I need to put more mint of steel right THERE, ...because... there can NEVER be too much Mint of Steel." It just cracked him up. Now he comes by my studio when I have a client and asks, "Mom, you need anything? Do you have enough "Mint of Steel?" Just to make me laugh.

That hair is so darn gorgeous. I have never seen anyone with hair that amazing. I'm not a hair stylist but I have a grandson who is 21 and went to barber school straight of high school. When the lockdown went into effect in March 2020 he was already a licensed barber. He was working at a barber shop with all guys and one girl. He noticed that the other barbers who were in mid twenties were not encouraging even a bit jealous. He had been cutting hair since he was a sophomore in high school. So when the barber shops were opened up again he choose not to go back to the barber shop. Instead he started working at a hair salon with women and one barber. They are all Spanish speaking (we know Spanish but didn't speak it at home) and treat him like a son. They bring homemade Mexican food a few days a week. He is so happy that he found a shop that treats like he is family not competition.

I've experienced it as a registered nurse as well. Had a charge nurse who had practiced for decades and I truly valueer years of experience, but she held no such value in my new techniques, nor my enthusiasm to do my very best for my patients. She would talk behind my back and tell everyone I didn't know what I was doing. It really made me question myself, my knowledge, and my skills. Took me awhile to realize that it was HER problem, not mine. She was just an unhappy person who made herself feel superior by putting down those SHE saw as beneath her.
Eventually I figured it out. I had worked 2 full-time jobs while going to nursing school ( including labs, lectures, and clinicals), while raising a family, and I sacrificed and worked too hard to have anyone take anything away from my accomplishments.

Your story spoke to me so much♥️ so here's mine I had a mentor in a high end salon right in my home town I was so star struck that she wanted me i looked up to her so much i wanted to know everything and how she did it welp it went wrong so fast I passed my boards and I immediately started there well it was good at first I didn't mind doing chores or helping out others but It came to I felt I was the new housekeeper and not doing hair I was finally allowed to do some cuts and colors my worst fear was an a line bob I did not learn this in school sooo I would ask questions basically asking for help trying to not look like a newbie clients were totally understanding but she was not made me feel like an idiot I was there for 6 months felt like I was doing well I finally asked for a raise and she blew me off gave my chair to another stylist then that very week she let me work all day then told me " you are an amazing employee blah blah but you dont fit our image " I was so heartbroken

Omg! I can relate. When I was in beauty school, I already had a bachelor’s degree and masters degree. I also read the Milady book cover to cover and marked it with 4 different colors of highlighters. I kept a lot of that to myself and worked hard. I tried out 6-8 color lines. I went to all the trade shows even when people told me it was just a flea market which it wasn’t. I took classes with Vidal Sassoon in London. Afterward, I could hardly get hired in a salon in LA because the high end salons have a staff that is mostly white and if the already had a black person they weren’t really trying to hire another one. It also didn’t help that I wasn’t skinny. So maybe they also didn’t think I had the look they wanted. I definitely didn’t have the clothes that looked custom made like the other stylist but I was polished, stylish, always learning and eager to work. I got hired at a salon in Pasadena and I was living in Woodland Hills. The drive was super long. The owner loved me but his wife didn’t. She started altering my check. By the time I caught it to take pictures and collect proof. She started sending me home after I would drive in for an hour of education. Also, some of the other stylists treated me rudely in front of customers which was embarrassing. I ended up quitting. After that, I paid booth rent and did groupon and I could barely afford the booth rent because I didn’t have the clientele to support it. I pretty much had to quit hair altogether and just do house calls here and there for fun. I wanted so much more. It saddens me that no one wanted me to succeed and see my potential. I saw stylists with no skill get handheld to greatness.

I won many awards in beauty school for technique. my maniquin in men's hair design was held in the showcase for 5 years. I've worked at around 7 salons since then before I just started freelancing. One of the worst salons I worked at I was doing her personal laundry, cleaning under frigerators and behind color stock that weren't touched in 12 years ago. She would always have something mean to say about everything I did. Plus she only payed me $2/hr Her sister-in-law that was the owner of one of the first salons I worked at after beauty school called me fat in front of a client. I've always had awful expirences in salons. Which is why I think I transitioned into a completely different field; financial services haha. Inside I will always be an artist and I will always be so grateful for your teachings Guy. You're such a unique selfless treasure. I love you so much!!😥🤗💋💋💋💖

I was never able to finish school so I decided to go back and finish in my 40's after my children were grown. I discovered that my own peers were not nice to me. I think they didn't like the fact that I always encouraged everyone around me. I always had a good attitude and was always giving the students complements on their work. Silly as that was. I kept my head up high and didn't let them know how much they hurt me. I have my own salon and enjoy all my clients. I discovered that other salon owners aren't friendly to each other. I guess coemption. Sad really, would love to have a friend in the business but that's not going to happen. You're the best and so glad you didn't let anyone bring you down.

Ohhhh I want this so bad!!!! I’ve been wanting lavender but with the mint?!?!? Ooooooo!
And yes I’ve been treated that way before I even got out of beauty school. The owner was a jerk and my client told him she only wanted me to do her hair.

I've recently began get to a point where I'm ready to enter again-now on I my own terms- you've been such an inspiration. I wish i could find your products here

I love that you TEACH. That's why I'm into your brand. I'm still in school, but I'm ALL IN! I'm not there to PLAY hair. I'm there to LEARN and at the end of the day I'm not chasing an ex-boyfriend around; I'm watching Guy Tang, I'm getting Pravana's Online Color Certificate, I'm researching brands, I'm practicing my own ideas on my out of pocket mannequins. I'm not in this to be average!

Guy! OMG, THANK YOU so much for making this video! I love to learn and will use this technique on myself. I am preparing to do my hair with similar colors in your video Purple Raven. Those colors are so beautiful! I follow you and watch all of your videos to learn how to do my own hair at home. Every time I go to the salon and get a "older experienced stylist" I am so disappointed! I literally had to learn how to do a color correction! So I have learned how to do my own hair by watching you! I have not been to school and am not licenced but thanks to eBay I am able to buy professional products like Olaplex, Blondeme bleach and Pravana Vivids. I am looking forward to trying all of your products especially the collagen powder, Big nine and your hair color remover for direct dyes as well as your direct dyes. As for the new stylists fresh out of school, please don't ever say that an older stylist with more experience is probably better than you! It's simply not true! It makes me cringe when I hear that! Because every time I get an older experienced stylist, that older stylist RUINS MY HAIR! Young stylists fresh out of school are the best! Those experienced stylists need to humble themselves and go back to school. Things change and they need to continue their education. Thank you Guy for all of your videos especially the ones about direct dyes, they are my favorite! You make me laugh and are fun to watch.

Yayy that you always do the shadow roots 😍😍 that's so true that one color all over looks like a cheap wig 🤔 it looks so undimensional, it's so beautiful when it looks like the "unnatural" grows like this "naturally" out of the head 😍 (disclaimer: my personal preference)

I like how this videos despite the fact that they are to showcase this hair color line, they also are very educational in the terms of universal knowledge about hair dying. And it helps because I’m from a county where this line is not available (I hope soon will have it) and still I could use all this tricks with other color lines while I wait yo get my hands into my identity line.
