Christopher Eccleston and Lisa Bowerman are joined by a stellar guest cast in a brand-new box set of full-cast audio dramas, available now from Big Finish Productions.
Buried Threats, the latest release in the third series of The Ninth Doctor Adventures, follows Christopher Eccleston's incarnation of the Time Lord as he visits twentieth-century France, modern day Yorkshire, and an archaeological dig on a distant planet - where he bumps into an old friend.
For the third story in the box set, Lisa Bowerman guest stars as Professor Bernice Summerfield. The 25th-century archaeologist, created by Paul Cornell, has featured in Big Finish audio dramas since 1998 - and now, she meets the Ninth Doctor for the first time.
The box set's star-studded cast also includes Alexander Vlahos (Versailles, Outlander), Fiona Wade (Emmerdale), Pooky Quesnel (The A Word, Doctor Who: A Christmas Carol), Simon Rouse (The Bill, Operation Mincemeat), Rosalyn Landor (The Devil Rides Out, The Amazing Mr Blunden) and Nabil Elouahabi (Trigger Point, The Tower).
Doctor Who - The Ninth Doctor Adventures: Buried Threats is available to own for just £29.99 (collector’s edition CD box set + download) or £22.99 (download only), exclusively from www.bigfinish.com.
Not all perils faced by the Doctor are as obvious as an alien invasion. Some threats have been buried for millennia, some for mere centuries, and some hide inside a troubled mind.
But whenever he finds injustice, danger, or just an irresistible mystery, the Doctor won’t stop digging until the truth is uncovered.
The three stories in this box set are:
A Theatre of Cruelty by Lisa McMullin
Someone or something is manipulating the dreams of French playwright Antonin Artaud. As Artaud’s nightmares are made manifest, the Doctor is compelled to intervene. Otherwise, Artaud’s new idea for an immersive theatre could become a ticket to literally die for.
The Running Men by Mark Wright
The TARDIS brings the Doctor to 21st century Halifax, alongside police Sergeant Ambika Desai, as they investigate a mysterious death.
The trail leads to the Hebble Piazza and an unscrupulous developer, as the Doctor uncovers the town’s distant past - and the infamous Halifax gibbet. The Running Men are rising from history!
Ancient History by Matt Fitton
Professor Bernice Summerfield is delving into the mystery of the Korravin, a mighty warrior horde, vanished overnight. But her expedition seems jinxed. And when a familiar blue box appears, Benny knows they’re in trouble.
As ancient history resurfaces, the Doctor wants to keep some things buried - but Benny’s an expert at digging up the past.
Christopher Eccleston said: “The tone of the stories we’ve recorded in Buried Threats are very, very different, and Ancient History feels very traditional, of the kind I remember when I was watching this show.
“This is the first time my Doctor has met Benny, in TV or audio, and I loved it, to see that vulnerable side of him, his respect and admiration and regret - a different side to him.”
Lisa Bowerman added: “Here is Benny again on another archaeological dig, with another Doctor - who she doesn’t recognise! And she’s thinking, I don’t know this person, but then there’s recognition, and they’re batting on the same rhythms as they always did. They get back into the rhythm really quickly.”
Big Finish listeners can purchase Doctor Who - The Ninth Doctor Adventures: Buried Threats as part of a complete four-volume series bundle for just £108 (on collector’s edition CD box set + download) or £88 (download only), exclusively from www.bigfinish.com.
All the above prices include the special pre-order discount and are subject to change after general release. - Zábava
0:52 Ahh you got the 2005 TARDIS landing effect! I love that effect of the TARDIS materialising.
What a fantastic trailer to coincide with Christopher Eccleston's 60th birthday, with plenty of visual references to the previous boxsets. Have a fantastic birthday, Chris!
Imagine if to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Eccleston they got David Tennant for 3 special audios, revealing that between the War and 9th Doctor there was yet another previously unseen incarnation who also happens to look like David Tennant.
@@HOTD108_at this point they might just do that
@@HOTD108_ Ew
Damn can't believe he's 60.
We need a Nine and Rose Boxset or River meet up!!!
Holy shit nine is meeting Bernice summerfield shes one of my favourite companions she needs to appear in the actual show
"I'm a time traveller. I point and laugh at archeologists." - 10th Doctor
No with Summerfield.
Neither with Song.
I would have serious beef with 10 if he pointed & laughed at Benny.
I guess what he should have said is, ''I point and laugh at MOST archaeologists''
My retirement plan = Listening Big finish stories, all of them.
A marathon.
You’d need to be retired for far longer than you’d lived up until that point. Couple hundred years at least. Better be a bloody generous pension as well

I hope you have a big wallet 😂
Can we just get an album with all the variations on the Ninth Doctor's theme? I'd get that in a heartbeat.
The Third and Ninth doctors are the most underrated imo. They are both incredible but overshadowed by their successors 4 and 10. Both of which are great as well!
My two most favorite Doctors!
Pertrwee at least had a long run.
Can guess each item (showcase from 00:22 to 00:53) on stands and various other items are reference on past 9th Doctor's Adventures in BF.
The items I was able to recognize/name were..
- Helmet of Ice Lord.
- Helmet of Sontarant.
- Head of Cybermen (nice attention to detail by play clip of Cyberman theme).
- I could swear to saw statue of Alpha Centauri far back.
There’s also a canon and robot sphere from Ravagers, a London Underground sign from Station to Station, and a football from The Beautiful Game.
@@EditedAF987 Did noticed cannon and London Underground sign, though that sphere was puzzling. Skull had hunch what it referenced.
Spot on :)@@EditedAF987
Anything with Benny is a instant purchase. My favourite Doctorwho character ever along with the 13th Doctor. This sounds excellent.
"Happy Birthday Christopher Eccleston!"
Always look forward to these trailers and I’m so excited to see how Bernice and Nine interact
Happy 60th birthday, Christopher Eccleston.
I want more than a one-off meeting. Put Nine and Benny together for several episodes, please.
Happy Birthday Chris!
I so hope to hear a Nine and Tenth audiobook!
Can’t wait!
its always fun to have bennie around
Just downloaded the first season of the 9th doctor! Looking forward to listening to all of them. So happy I found big finish at the end of last year!
So Chris, what was that you were saying about not meeting past companions? Lol
There’s a difference between being a guest star in a single story, and coming back as a full time travelling companion.
Love Bernice, and this will be fantastic!
Another fine trailer.
I am so looking forward to listening to this one. what a lovely trailer.
Love the musiiiiic!!! ❤
I wish they'd incorporate more longer stories like Ravengers into the mix instead of the usual 3x 60 minute format
It doesn't feel like 9's business with Benny is done. There's no way he wouldn't open up to one of his dearest friends.
WOOHOO!!! I freaking LOVE Bernice Summerfield! This is going to be a cracker
I can't afford to keep up with every Big Finish release so apologies if my question is answered in a previous audio, but how can the 9th Doctor be making references to River Song if the 10th Doctor didn't even recognise her in Silence in the Library??
He’s not talking about River Song here. He’s talking about Bernice Summerfield.
Bernice Summerfield was actually very likely the inspiration behind River Song.
Bernice Summerfield was a companion who started out travelling with the Seventh Doctor, then met the Eighth Doctor.
She's a time travelling archaeologist and a professor. She's also close friends with the Doctor's brother, Braxiatel (well, I say "friend", he's double-crossed her plenty of times but that's pretty average for timelords lmao)
She was in a load of novels, then got her own novel series. Finally, she got her own Big Finish spinoff that lasted for almost 20 series. Her story is currently on hiatus, so we're not sure where her adventures are taking her next!
Who said he was talking about River Song
So there are two answers to this actually.
1) nine isn't actually referring to Song here. He is actually referring to Bernice Summerfield, who is a (fantastic) character I would recommend checking out in some audio if you have the money, specifically with seven and Ace.
2) even if he was referring to River, it would have been due to him already meeting River before she erases his memory so he forgets their meeting, which is typically what happens when River meets any classic doctor from Big Finish.
preoreded this Brilliant trailer Happy fantastic birthday Chris 🎂 👍
woah, nice trailer!
Can't believe The Doctor is landing in Sonic Frontiers
