  • The nationally acclaimed patriotic song "Yɛn Ara Asaase Ni", was written by Dr. Ephraim Amu in 1929 and is sang in the Ashanti language.
Dr. Ephraim Kɔku Amu (13 September 1899 - 2 January 1995) was a Ghanaian composer, musicologist and teacher.
    [[Lyrics]]
Yɛn ara asaase ni (This is our own native land)
ɛyɛ abɔ den den de ma yen (It is priceless to us)
Mogya a nananom hwie gu nya de to hɔ ma yɛn (Acquired with the blood our ancestors shed for us)
Aduru me ne wo nso so, sɛ yɛbɛyɛ bi atoa so (It is now our turn to continue what our ancestors started)
Nimdeɛ ntraso, nkoto-kranne (Bragging of educational achievements)
Ne ɛpɛsɛmenkomenya, adi yɛn bra mu dem, ama yɛn asaase ho dɔ atom' sɛ (Or useless greed for material things, and bad lifestyles are destroying our nation, and disgracing it)
    Chorus:
ɔman no, sɛ ɛbɛyɛ yie oo! (Whether this nation prospers!)
ɔman no, sɛ ɛrenyɛ yie o! (Whether this nation doesn't prosper!)
ɛyɛ nsɛnnahɔ sɛ, ɔmanfo bra na ɛkyerɛ (Clearly depends on the character of the citizens of the nation)
ɔman no, sɛ ɛbɛyɛ yie oo! (Whether this nation prospers!)
ɔman no, sɛ ɛrenyɛ yie o! (Whether this nation doesn't prosper!)
ɛyɛ nsɛnnahɔ sɛ, ɔmanfo bra na ɛkyerɛ (Clearly depends on the character of the citizens of the nation)

This is the real Ghanaian national anthem. Ghana should be proud to let the world hear this version as the official anthem.

@@edema.3418 the original was composed and written in Ewe by Ephraim Amu. This is a translation that was done as part of 4 anthems that were considered for Ghana at independence: "Lift High the Flag of Ghana", which was later changed to "God bless our Homeland Ghana" was eventually selected.

"God Bless Our Homeland Ghana" is the national anthem of Ghana since 1957. The lyrics are written in English by Michael Kwame Gbordzoe, and the music was composed by Philip Gbeho.

Especially today being Independence Day. We have to appreciate the people who devoted much of their lives to make Ghana what it is today. And still look ahead to what we can achieve.

As a Ghanaian my favourite anthems is Ghana and Tanzania national anthem. Lately as I am following the freedom of Oduduwa and Biafra, I truly love the Oduduwa (Yoruba) national anthem too. Sadly the Igbo one is in English UNFORTUNATELY, I hope they change it to Igbo. Africa must get rid off all english national anthems. It's c.rap in my opinion. Let's pride ourselves of our own language

    A lovely song!
The line: Mogya a nananom hwie gu nya de to hɔ ma yɛn (Acquired with the blood our ancestors shed for us) reminds me of the Welsh National Anthem en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hen_Wlad_Fy_Nhadau :
Ei gwrol ryfelwyr, gwladgarwyr tra mad,
    Dros ryddid collasant eu gwaed.
Her brave warriors, very splendid patriots,
    For freedom shed their blood.
