    One thing missing, important for those trying to build generators on their own, is coil alignment. If the coil facing the north pole of one magnet is wired clockwise then the coil facing south pole should be wired counterclockwise (flipped upside down). Otherwise some piece of our work would be converted into heat instead of electricity.

    • @waynec369
      @waynec369 Před 3 měsíci +1

      He addresses this at about 8 minutes into the video. All the coils have the same orientation. The adjacent magnets alternate pole direction. As the rotor rotates, each magnet is presented to the core of the coil in opposing polarity...

    It's fascinating to realize how important electromagnetic waves are. One contains the magnetic field. The other contains the electric field. Crazy how light & all the spectrums of radiation is the true base structure of all the energy and matter around us. So we really couldn't have our universe without light because it's the aspect that gets any other system in our universe functioning at all.

    Dr. RMS, great vid! You got the best job in the world, enjoy! Could also turn the wheel into a Faraday Unipolar Generator by clamping magnets on an attached disk - no Lenz law there. Also, maybe charge capacitors on the wheel accoring to everybody's favorite paper - E.H. Kennard Ph.D. (1917) XIII. Dear Robert,
    What a great CZcams channel you have created.
    I am very interested in the things you show.
    This was again a very clear explanation about a generator.
    Now I have a question.
    It is about the serpent coil, which appears in many videos.
    Can you improve that with an iron core?
    The coil you showed now has an iron core, and now the coil wires are at a different angle with respect to the magnets.
    This is because the magnetic field is changed by the iron core.
    What is the best way to do that with a serpent coil?
    Install iron tubes through which the wires run?
    Or make the partitions between the wires of iron?
    Kind regards from a Dutchman Wim.

    If you had two cone shaped magnets that were polarized oppositely, and you had a bucket made of copper with a cone coming up in the middle and a slight pinch at the top, then could you continuously overflow the bucket to spin the magnets and harvest electric off the bucket itself?

    What if you made a Mercury Arc Rectifyer but the current fed back into itself?
    Maybe a hand crank would fire the Mercury up & then the AC output returned from the Rectifyer & powered up the DC to keep the Mercury plasma vaporized?

    • @EliotTruelove
      @EliotTruelove Před 3 měsíci

      I've been curious about this as well, and as far as I can tell from simple internet scrolling is that Mercury arc rectifiers supposedly generate a lot of heat, so while a small amount of the current outputted could sustain the reaction, much of the power before rectifying would be wasted as heat, thus lowering how much energy can be used or stored in the long run.
      Modern rectifiers don't generate nearly as much heat and thus most of the input can be outputted with minimal losses.

  • @Vibe77Guy

    You once built a generator, from a series of magnets on a rotor and individual coils. As I recall (without searching for the particular video), you made a comment about connecting a capacitor in parallel with each of the coils to improve the generator efficiency. Does that not work with serpentine coils?

    Of all the exercise bicycles I have seen only one worked on the principle of producing electricity and then load that power produced. It was the one that merely needed some electronics added to do some thing useful. All the others had clumsy mechanical breaking systems and one had a fan / blade type mechanism which could direct wind in the direction of the rider. The electrical one on test was able to produce 165 watts which one rider managed to maintain for nearly 10 minutes. The total energy in that time was enough to charge at least 2 cell fones from flat to full charge.

    • @kadmow
      @kadmow Před 3 měsíci

      Total energy would be - 99kJ or 27.5Wh (however big the "2cell" is ???)

    I feel a alternator voltage regulator could be similar to a boost converter with cc cv. To specifically charge lithium batteries. It may not be perfect if there is a load. With the ability to further stabilize the voltage and limit current . A lithium battery connected to an alternator. If the battery is at 2.5v/cell, (10 volts,) the normal alternator is going to output 200% if it can. Because the drained battery is nearly a short. Having the ability to drop the current until the charge hadbeen taken. The voltage up to a nominal level. Then crank up the output to maintain the current at a safe level. When the voktage is up, the battery charged. Drop the charge voltage to prevent over charge the rectification will prevent Backflow. I been wanting to build a regulator like this for years! I have several delco HD alternators im building a DC generator to charge lithium batteries! In the 300 amp range at 28,-29 volts (peak actually 28.7v)

      - hmm those magnets at 8000-12000rpms, fun trick....

  • @hunnybunnysheavymetalmusic6542

    Question: if you step the voltage down, without using a transformer, is there any power wasted? Or does the solid state rectified voltage come out with the properly adjusted and equivocated amperage commiserate to the original wattage input to the regulator?

    • @kadmow
      @kadmow Před 3 měsíci

      - losses always exist.. One never gets the complete output after any "transformation" - of any energetic quantity.
      this is simply why one cannot even demonstrate "useless" pretual motion... The useful kind is pure fantasy - if it "appears true" there must be an overlooked source of energy/power...

  • @NillionaireNewsNetwork
    @NillionaireNewsNetwork Před 3 měsíci

    the mechanical input can be a circular arrangement of angled, serrated magnets pushing the rotor with its magnets. if that rotor is a magnetic disk slightly hemispherical in shape with serrations also. the top is flat with NS NS magnets. the fields of which is separated from the base of the floating rotor wwith an inslating material. The base floating is serrated and being pushed by the magnets of the surrounding rotor. I wish I had magnets to make this I know it can work I just can't explain it very well. As a semiotic signifier I use "stator" in a different sense than you, in my idea stator is just a magnet that does not move. The rotor does move.. I could exactly explain my idea for someone to design it, but they'd need to mold the magnets specifically which is why I'd want tetrateanite alloy to pour into the molds, as the shapes I need haven't been designed or the design isn't anything standard as a magnet used in current applications. I can't design the molds in CAD and I don't have money to smelt my own tetrateanite alloy. I was thinking of using styrafoam wih some neocadmium to exhibit the idea but I can't afford that either. Just to exhibit the idea of a floating spinning levitating rotor and a magnetic "stator". My idea won't have a dirty output as the rotor is levitating and spinning due to a magnetic "stator's" magnetic field pushing and driving it. Only the slow decay of magnetism will reduce the output.

      - only if you actually "know" your magnetic field strength - otherwise you are now the experimenter....
      (google helps everyone equally - just ask the right question: (emf = NAB*omega sin(omega*t) (Quantities are: Number of turns, Area, magnetic field, rate of rotation and total time.)
      Wikipedia: Electrical Generator, or / and Faradays Law of Induction - do you need a calculator or are you able to use excel to make one yourself???
      Wire size - is governed by ohms law - again you need to "know" ohms per unit length, and thermal dissipation of the coil, to calculate current capacity (Amps) theoretically... (tricky to get right first time around - "science").
