    Hi! I work for
    Babies R Us Canada. Love my job! Finding good products for your baby is one of the hardest things you’ll ever do. Mostly because you do NOT know what baby will like. So when you do, share it on line like this! It’s so helpful to parents. It really is important to read the reviews, ask other Parents and do your homework... most of all, look for sales! But, it really all boils down to your little bundle of joy. My tip for Parents. “When you find a soother, bottle, blanket or toy baby really really likes.. but 2 and put one away. I’ve had a ton of frantic parents looking for a fav soother. Baby won’t sleep without it! Buy 2!!!

    As a mom that has also exclusively pumped, a tip I wish someone told me is to keep spare pump parts on hand. You don’t want to be caught in the middle of the night, not able to pump because a plastic piece breaks or a seal isn’t functioning. I used medela parts with a spectra pump, and I was on a vacation when a plastic piece I needed for my pump snapped, and I didn’t have a replacement. It was days of manual/single pumping for me before the part arrived. It sucked, and I have not been without spare parts ever again.

    Hello!!! So I am a “silent follower” if you can put it that way I usually don’t comment. But today I want to share with you my story cause I feel like I can relate so much to you.
    On feb 16 of this year I gave birth to our firstborn! Our baby boy was born at 32 weeks. I had eclampsia and while in the hospital I had a seizure and was out for 2 minutes, so the doctors had to induce me. Glory to God it was natural delivery. My baby spent 1 month and 3 days at the NICU. It was heartbreaking and busy. But I know that everysingle night God was with him and the other babies. I exclusively pump and bottle feed too! I was using the Avent bottles aswell but after a while my baby started getting extremely gasy so after doing some research the Dr. Browns bottles with the green filter have worked amazing. I also bought the friday baby humidifier its great. I have an air purifier and the humidifier both going at the same time.
    Thank you for your video I always look foward to them. It makes me feel like I am not alone in this journey.
    God bless you! Thank God for our miracle babies! Quinn is looking more and more beautiful on each video!

    The humidifier is supposed to be at least 4 feet off the ground so that would be why it gets the floor wet! Just because the humidity falls so close to the floor so the moisture gathers 🙂 if you have it up on a high surface the humidity in the room will be better as it has more time to travel!

    Any pump
    Is fine and does the job. I think it is all preferance. Same with bottles, carriers, blankets, and swaddles, pacifiers, swings, bouncers, and tubs for newborns. Sure you need all those things , but they are all subjective. Mom of 3 soon to be 4 here. Also, each baby will like something different so just because one baby likes something, your next one may hate that stuff. Just buy the basics of what you can afford. I also have never taken the taken care of baby class. In fact that class did not even exist when I had my last 3. They slept fine. Mother’s intuition for sleep is best. Sure some tips can help, but trial an error is all I did.

    I have a 10 year old, and now I'm having another baby.. Something I learned from my first is that a wipe warmer and bottle warmer are a life saver, but at about 6 months or so, we didn't need them anymore. We would fill bottles with water, wake up and just at the formula. He was perfectly content with a room temp bottle. And the wipes warmer again, we only used for 6 months or so, then he was used to being changed at night and just going back to sleep so he didn't care about the wipe being warm

    I was breastfeeding and pumping too and one tip I learned is: you don't need to wash the pump parts verytime you use those if you keep them in the fridge in a clean bag in between pumping. So you can only was the parts once a day instead.

    • @stacyhoefert7979
      @stacyhoefert7979 Před 4 lety +5

      This isn’t intended to be a negative comment or mom shame you at all. I definitely did this too while I was pumping. There’s no way I would have had to time to wash pump parts at work.
      However, I just wanted to put the disclaimer out there that this isn’t really a “best practice”. When you take the pump parts out of the fridge, the little leftover drops of milk come to room temperature very quickly & can grow bacteria. I definitely took my chances with it because I had a healthy full term baby who was 3+ months when I started pumping. However, it may not be the best idea for a premie baby, a very young baby, or a baby who is otherwise immunocompromised.

  • @jewelslarson1802

    I had so many bottles with my daughter. Ended up exclusively breastfeeding, but pumped for daycare since I was working. Only needed 1 bottle a day (they cleaned it after each use) and used either Comotomo or Kiinde. They were amazing and mimics breastfeeding so we had a great transition back and forth

    I used the Medela PISA with my first, and I also exclusively pumped for eight months. I never had one of the white membranes actually break on me but over time they do become less effective. It's always good to keep an extra pair or two on hand because if your output is down, you can try replacing them to see if that makes a difference. Also, with the tubing, if you just cut the very end off, it will be like new. You may also find that since that seal is nice and tight again, you do get more milk. Where bottles are concerned, we had nothing but issues with the Avent bottles. We found that we had a lot of defective nipples, and the bottles had to be bone dry to not leak. Since we like glass bottles, we ended up using the Joovy ones. They're so pricey, but our son's colic issues ended when we started using them. I liked this video a lot. It was practical and realistic. Also, as nice as it is to have someone buy something for you, our best purchases were made after the baby was born (highchair, baby carrier, and stroller) because we could try out items in the store before buying to see if they really were a good fit.

    • @CaraJane

    Hey girl, you mentioned you use frozen breast milk for your baby! I did that for time first baby and then I realized that it is best to give her the freshly pumped milk and freeze anything that is not currently used because the freezing will kill some vitamins. And fresh or a day old milk is probably better for them! Good luck!!!

FTM don’t realize how quickly babies grow and how much work it is so all the cute outfits are really good if you go out a lot or post a lot of pictures. They have books specifically for newborns with the black and white different shapes, similar to the bottom of the balls on the mamaroo. In case you ever have another baby, just thought you should know that’s probably why her eyes were drawn to it! ☺️

    Hi Cara! I have a bottle recommendation, just in case. I am also exclusively pumping, trying to nurse a few times a day, though Leo still hasn't gotten the hang of it. Anyways, the bottle our NICU recommended were the Dr. Brown's bottles. This is because they have the anti-colic/reflux part inside them. Preemies are said to be more prone to colic and reflux. We luckily have not seen any colic developing in Leo, though he did and still does have a bit of reflux. Not sure if Quinn has these or signs of these, but I definitely recommend them just in case. They have different options too. A narrow bottle for a bottle fed baby and then a wide bottle for breast fed babies. We have used both, but now stick to the wide bottle in hopes Leo will learn to breastfeed, though I'm not sure he will at this point. Unfortunately the bottle has a TON of little parts to it, but I don't mind washing it all. Just wanted to recommend them in case and for any other mamas out there, hopefully they find this useful. Loved the video and thanks for the recommendations. Leo has been stuffy so I'm definitely going to get some distilled water and finally use the humidifier we got for him. Looking forward videos to come! Hope you're having a great day! All the best! -Clarissa

    I have gotten so much back lash for wanting gender neutral items because are so use to buying trade pink for girls and blue for boys, my boyfriend and I decided there are only a few surprises left in this world as this one of them, and if we have another baby no need to buy all the gender specific over again, I also had anxiety about breast pumps of which I researched for a month and finally went with the Spectra s1 through my insurance, I also heard you should have two so now I am stressing if I really need two, so many things to consider but since I am space limited practical works for me, thank you so much for this video 😊

      Aww I hope you get everything you need! It’s definitely fun to have some girly things for her too, but you’ll save yourself money in the long run with the gender neutral items when you know you’ll end up using it for more than one baby! And so far I’ve had NO need for another pump. (Other than the hand pump) I’m not sure why other people need 2 or 3...I’m sure they have a reason, but so far I just don’t see a need.

    This is such a practical list! I love how honest you are with everything.
    I absolutely love our linen ring sling! I was eyeing the Wild Bird brand for awhile but then I found a small family business on Etsy, called Bibetts, that makes linen ring slings. They’re significantly cheaper than Wild Bird but so nice! So just an FYI for anyone who wants a ring sling but wants to save a little $$

    I went through Aeroflow online for my breast pump. There were a couple options that were completely covered by our insurance but they weren’t the best rated. I decided to upgrade to the Spectra 1. Insurance paid for most of it and I paid the rest out of pocket. Highly recommend checking out Aeroflow.

    It is so nice to see a video like this. There are so many and they’re so overwhelming, especially when you’re going to be a FTM like myself. Baby isn’t due until June but we are finding with delivery times, we are having to order everything now. I’ve had the mamaroo on my list for ages but it’s so expensive I didn’t know if it was really something I needed or something I liked the idea of having 😂
    Also: how did you do your hair? It’s gorgeous!!

    • @CaraJane
      @CaraJane  Před 4 lety +1

      Aww congrats! We were actually gonna buy a used momaroo since they’re so expensive but then the stay at home order happened so it wasn’t really an option to go to someone’s house and get it. We kind of justified it since we will use it for all of our future kids too. It’s probably a good idea to have a new one starting off! Also, the fact that the NICU used momaroos as opposed to other swings helped me make my decision that it was what I wanted. Aww thank you! Overnight braids are my go to!😂👌🏼

    • @doll0face
      @doll0face Před 4 lety +1

      @@CaraJane Thank you!! 🙂 yeah, the fact that NICU use them is a big plus in my book!! We've had people try to put us off them in case baby doesn't like it, but it's our first baby so if he doesn't like it, it doesn't mean our future ones won't 🤷🏼‍♀️
      Your hair sits so well, I do over night braids and I wake up a frizzy mess haha 💕

      @CaraJane  Před 4 lety +1

      Aww. Well I hope you were able to get whatever works best for you! OMG that’s funny! To be honest I am kind of surprised how well the braids work… I know it ends up super frizzy for a lot of people!🤷🏼‍♀️😂

    I didn't read through the other comments, but any silicone/"soft" parts (valves, membranes, tubes, etc) on your pump need to be replaced every 4-6 weeks if you pump more than 3x a day.

    I’m exclusively pumping also- my little was born 4/1. The one thing I can suggest is buy multiple sets of pump parts! I have 3 in rotation so I don’t have to wash them every time. I pumped with my first daughter and only had one set and this time around is much easier for those night time pump sessions. I don’t have to stay up and wash parts for the next time.

    Love this video! Have a bunch of the same favorites! I use the Haakaa during every feeding on the other boob to build a stash! If you fold the top while pinching and then fold it back to latch it better to the boob, it will help it be more secured and should be more suction causing more milk to come out!

    Anytime she scratches her face, put some of your breastmilk on it and it will heal very quickly. My baby cut her face pretty good with her nails and after a day or two of putting my breastmilk on her cut, it was completely healed and it was like it never happened.
