  • I bought a new mitre saw to save space in my workshop. This is my honest opinion compared to my old Hitachi saw.
    I am very disappointed. Am I too critical?

    I am just beginning in woodwork and it is so useful to have this kind of video info from someone who knows what they're doing and what to epect from a mitre saw. I'm also disappointed in this saw. Thanks a lot.

    I have always been a big fan of these saws, although had the older ones. They where always very clunky to use but very solid machine that lasted really well, built like a tank, not much finesse but solid and reliable. I think these are really aimed at construction workers rarther than hobby workshops or even professional cabinet makers. They are compact, can take a bit of a beating and still cut accurately.
    I hope you get used to it and enjoy using it after your initial disappointment.

    I wish I “saw” this video before I bought the saw. I’ve been having this for six years now and it’s okay, but I would actually expect more when I compare it to other brands or models. Especially when it comes to adaptations I replaced the blade but the mechanism before adjusting the depth is catastrophic from my point of view

    Third hose goes in the square hole above the side tilt lock. With a three ports extractor you need a more powerful vacuum system. If you want to stick with the shop vac, you can block 2 ports and test to see which one is most efficient for your needs. Also, you can get a soft starter for power tools if the jerk is annoying - or go to the gym 😂

    Thanks for highlighting the shortcomings of this saw, I was looking at 774 and 777, great for saving some space, but dust extraction looks like is very bad, also handle for left hand cuts is unusable, at least on 774, and no trench cutting possible. I went for Bosch gcm 8 sjl. The only problem with it, takes a lot of room too!

    I have lots of Dewalt 20v max kit , but this saw is a dud , just like the 773 and 774 . There is no depth of cut (dado) as previously stated . I purchased the Evolution R185 . Perfect for carrying to jobs . I've simply fitted a wood cutting blade .Good video - thanks for speaking English .

    I have this saw (got it on a great deal) too & realised its shortcomings only in use. I also have a Evolution 210 and whilst it is inferior in terms of build quality it is a much more capable saw than the DWS777.
    There is an older model than the DWS777 where the design is basically the same, so it appears DeWalt haven't exactly improved on past designs...

  • @DMC888
    @DMC888 Před rokem

    I’ve had this saw about 6 years. I changed the blade for a premium finishing blade and it’s been excellent.
    The only issue I have is with bevel cuts. When the blade is tilted over by 45 degrees, the weight of the saw head pulls the cut out of square.
    This is caused by a sloppy plastic bush which really should have been made from steel.

    I have the Dws778 and all the same problems as with this one, getting an accurate cut for example 27deg or 36deg to make stars was a nightmare. I ended up gluing 2 very thin bits of pointed tin to each side above the scales, almost touching the scale plate. The handle is terrible, I'm quite small and reaching and pressing the guard button is actually a challange. I only bought it for the internal sliding. I wish I had seen one in the shop before buying it from screwfix !.. I don't like it at all.

    That DeWalt is ancient model hence jerky start and dust generation. Shame. With track saws doing pretty much everything a sliding mitre saw can do, there's a place for a non-sliding chop or mitre saw for space, ease of heaving around site, and light weight when don't have a table saw

    You complained about the back rest of the saw hits the protection shield for the blade.
    The back rests is adjustable in and out to each side.
    There is nothing wrong with that, it is you just have to adjust out the back rest a bit.

    There is no place for the 3rd tube. I think because of the fact that it is compatible with other types. Besides, you need an airlock connector for the other tube (as per the instructions of the machine). Anyhow, I am very pleased with the way this saw is working.

    • @thenarrowworkshop8079
      @thenarrowworkshop8079  Před 3 lety

      Thanks for the comment :) Glad to hear you are pleased with the saw.
      Regarding the airlock mentioned in the instructions, this seems to be related to connecting a vacuum cleaner directly to the dust extraction port. The instructions only mention connecting a vacuum cleaner or a dust bag. The kit that I bought is not mentioned, but it came with a connector to use behind the kerf. The hose in the kit fits nicely into the dust extraction port, so I don't see any need for an airlock when I use the kit. But as I mentioned in the video, there are no instructions at all mentioning the kit.
      Best regards,
      Espen

  • @manu.gomusic

    Every miter saw has lack of dust collection. You should consider building one. There are many videos explaining how to improve it.

    • @thenarrowworkshop8079
      @thenarrowworkshop8079  Před 2 lety +1

      Yes, I find that to be true. The problem with this one oss HOW it works poorly. The old saw works poorly inn a better way, even without a dust extraction kit.
      I might as well reveal that this saw is kicked out. The new saw works a lot better, even if that also has some negative reviews considering dust exstraction. So far much less dust problems :)

      @@manu.gomusic Thank you :) For the DWS-777 I've so far not used it for very precise work, so I couldn't tell, but it is solid, so when you dial in an angle, it stays there. I have the same saw, and I agree you’ll have to accept less features if you need the compactness if this model.
    Another thing not possible with it is setting the depth of the cut, if you need to cut a dado. This is because both the sliding and tilting mechanisms are built into the saw part.
    The jerk when the saw starts doesn’t bother me, and having 1800 watts is great when sawing wet planks. It’s a great allround saw, but if I had the space I’d go for a «full size» saw instead.
    PS! You only use 2 of the 3 hoses for the dust collection for the 777.

    • @thenarrowworkshop8079
      @thenarrowworkshop8079  Před 3 lety

      Thanks for your comment.
      I haven't actually checked the depth setting, as I always use my table saw. But thanks for mentioning.
      I guess the jerk relates to the large motor, and that soft start would help. Not that it is a big problem, but it's still something to be aware of. For this price range I would have expected it.
