FaderGate guy : • EP-133 K.O.II Fader Fix
Post upload, I realize I never mentioned patterns...within a scene, each group can have multiple patterns, hold a group letter, then + and - to cycle that groups patterns.
I think this got lost in editing because I called it redundant, than back pedaled because I realized it makes things a lot more flexible for improvising scenarios, then back pedaled because it seemed cumbersome to remember which pattern was which without any on-screen visuals...its 3am I am not editing any more.
This video feels too long, but everything I said feels important, so its not getting cut.

jorb's mirror reflects how the oscilloscope reacts to voltage. cuckoo's mirror reflects how his hair reacts to voltage.
lmaoo
They’re basically the same thing
😂❤
Both would be excellent band names.
🤣😭
I learned more in the 'hands on' 7 minute section here than I did in a week of owning the device, googling, using the manual etc. Amazing.
😅🙏🙏🙏
My unit comes in tomorrow and I’m pretty stoked! Should be great for plane flights! Great video!
EDIT: I SOLD IT and got the Circuit Tracks. Much better proposition. Much better SOUND. This should be $199 MAX
i don't know if it's because of how good it looks but i keep thinking about how to make music on it even when i'm away from it. that alone could make it a game changer. there is no way you won't get better if you keep coming back to the same machine and mastering it.
Best video on this unit I’ve seen. The sounds and insight. Top notch!
🙏🙏🙏🫡🫡🫡
Top notch for sure.
They way you laid down the bass and snare in just seconds at the start of the video is a big deal for me. When I play with digitone or model samples it feels way more clinical to get the beat started
I ordered mine direct from TE a few hours after announce and it still hasn’t shipped yet. Oh the first world agony!
Same, emailed them they said i will get a shipping confirmation. but nothing. Such BS ugh
Wait till you get it and it turns in a banana…..🫣
Jorb, your channel is my favorite for new gear reviews! Like sitting around with a friend to see what he thinks. Thank you for doing what you do for us! 🙏🙏
🙏🙏🙏
Best tutorial of all the dozens I have watched. Great work! Thank you for de-mystifying so many features for me :)
Excellent videos as always! Thanks, Jorb!
This is my first review of yours I've watched the whole way through, and I love how non-biased this review is.
Thanks for the insight! I waited to see what the release was, kinda hoped it was a new opz. Ordered my Tracker Mini that morning, very happy with it for my workflow.
Compressor tube icon = 🍦
lovely! been having a blast with mine so far
Great video thanks! This will be very helpful when mine arrives. You gave a pretty consise overview of usage and made some great points. Cheers.
cheers, appreciate that
Thanks for the honest review! My K.O. II will hopefully arrive soon.
Best review/demo I've seen of of this one so far, another excellent vid from Jorb! Thnx :)
🙏🫡🫡
Love your content, man. So glad you did a review.
Ordered two - one from guitar center and one direct. GC unit arrived with a fader that didn’t work and a knob that wouldn’t fit. Sending it back cancelled my direct order and will spend 300 towards a used Samples or bite the bullet on a Digitakt.
Super cool device, incredible aesthetic, fun workflow, but the poor packaging and QC really makes me doubt the value of this system.
I will never sell my Digitakt. I don't use it every day, but with the depth and versatility there's enough there to play with that I can enjoy it for years as a drum machine and sampler plus some synthesis. If I got an EP-133 I think I'd want to sell it quite quickly. To me it's like an inferior attempt at an SP-404, with too many missing and ill-conceived parts to it.
Super helpful - many thanks Jorb. 👍
Absolutely wonderful as always! The million dollar question is did you keep it? thanks again for all your content!
Great walkthrough Jorb. Yeah, TE really need to add resampling and reverse. 🎉
Amazon video thank you! I wondered what the openings on the side were. Technic though? I love that so much. I imagine it’s a good strategy for connecting more than one ep together and using the plates on the back for extra support.
I like the way you think and express! Subbed!
Got mine today and everything is working fine. This tutorial is exactly what I need. Thanks! (I am a total newbie so I would love a video for dummies. Your points about fader modes and filters were to quick for me…. Yes I am very new to this 😊
Dude jorb you nailed this! Ive had mine for a few days but been so busy at work i havent fully figured it out. Mind you i have a messed up speaker on mine. if i press on the back it works so im thinking a little bit of solder will get my speaker working. Ill be watching this video numerous times this weekend until i get the hang of it.
If mine arrives with the problem, I'll reach out to TE. Incase you havent seen any yet, there are a few vids where ppl have opened it up, and fixed it by simply tightening a large screw a little bit, that pins the connection down. It'd be wrong of me to recommend that though because that would be recommending to void the warranty. But just so you know, it seems to be an easy fix and the choice is yours.
@@morgan8937 yeah I've got a couple comments about this screw, none of these videos have hit my feed yet but I'll go searching this weekend for it. If they don't have a tamper seal while opening (I'm not sure if there is one or not), but if there's not then they don't need to know I went inside! I haven't done a support ticket yet just for this reason.
I'm also pretty handy with everything, I work on my own car, I built my first PC at 9 years old. I've soldered cables and MPC parts etc etc.
Oh man, idk if my notifications have been failing me or what but two jorb videos so soon after one another! JORB FIIIIX
I'm cookin yes, 3 videos in two weeks. can you tell I got laid off 😭😭😭
@@JorbLovesGear noooo! I'm sorry to hear that. I'm digging the extra content and I hope it's supplying the income you need bro!
This is pretty much a functional **MASTER CLASS** in how to use this crazy brilliant music creation tool! Much appreciated, bruh!!!👊🏻👊🏻👊🏻😎🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🎯🥇
Great honest review!
I agree, that reverse and resampling are a must in. sampler.
I really hope it will be implemented in future.
The thing that makes this thing work for me is the sound.
I might be tricked, but the master compressor gels everything really well and can also go quite extreme, all while still sounding pleasant in some way. The FX are also quite nice.
I hope its not recency bias :)
Anyway, thanks for the video, and for showing up and helping in my livestream!
Really good point about how from product to product it feels like a different company
Really crazy that this is $299 yet a simple voice recorder is $1400.
TE finally putting out a serious piece of gear that working musicians can actually afford. I don’t know how much these guys think musicians make, but not all of us have an accountant day job or scandinavian levels of income 😅
Anyway, wanted a sampler that got me as far away from a DAW workflow as possible. Got this one and I’m loving it. Can’t wait to see what else they come up with in the EP series line.
Seems worth the $. Just ordered mine. Thanks for this video!
Wow wow wow. What a perfect Demo. NICE ! U nail it.
23:48 - Pffft... "Backside"....
Thanks Jorb!
I didn't know the kount had sounds on it. that's dope.
its a super good call
With those piano chords at the start, that really reminded me of burger/ink. I love the way this thing sounds
Great video Jorb!! Thank you!
🙏🫡🫡
quick and clear demo!
TE needs to do a full recall. The amount of broken faders is atrocious. Sent mine back this morning. Was also very disappointed with the overall build quality. Will not be getting another.
You broke your fader you mean
35:05 - well I guess you discovered their prototyping medium 🤣
LEGO = SOLD ! You can use lego to expand speaker cone.
Great clear overview as usual, that give us a practical outlook in context 👾
🙏🙏🫡
I'm pretty sure anyone calling this a toy isn't really talking about the design, i think it's a reflex from Knowing how much they've spent on other gear, and they need to justify having spent all that, so they classify in their minds more expensive things as more serious.
This is one of the clearer videos anyone has made covering this thing so far, thanks.
🙏🙏That's the goal, cheers
Great vid!
I went from I should get my nephews and nieces pocket ooerators for christmas to 'oh shit what is this new ep-133 thing, I want that' to getting a mpc in a couple of days.
The slippery slope of gear
You can find a used SP404 mk2 for about the same price. Not sure I really need this. Looks fun.
I’m sure I don’t need K.O. II. Arrived today 🙌😆
I’m liking everything I have seen so far.
I love the Little Feat t-shirt ☺️
Hi Jorb , thanks for the video , I've been watching your vid to learn how to sample and trim etc and sampling your voice ha ha , hope you don't mind
no pop off lol
I‘m having fun exploring this thing. Fader knob went on with not much force. It seems that there are good examples around, too.
you can shift dial for precise knob movement i think
yes
about the lego thing - potentially if they release more devices in this line of products - you could connect them with lego bricks and technic studs into one unit. Obviously it won't be very robust)))
This is the first actual review thats a review I've seen. And for that I salute you 🫡 I ordered mine from TE and its yet to ship. Pretty frustrating but i have other gear thst still works fine to use until it does. I cut my teeth in the OP-Z and could use it easily without using a phone screen so this should be a lot easier to use hopefully. Just hope it plays nice with my other gear 🤔
I'm guessing the Lego attachment points and keyboard style switches are there to let people personalize their KO2. Look at how many people personalize SP404's with knobs and faceplates. Now you can buy Lego plates to build onto or Technics pieces for unique fader/dials or attachment points on the sides, and custom keycaps for all the main buttons. There will be an entire culture around customization of these things.
I don't think the keycaps are a standard dimension, but could be wrong.
And making the potentiometer have standard shafts instead of technics rods would've made them more customizable.
@@JorbLovesGear Technics cap with a Darth Vader minifig head sitting on top = Vader Fader!
@@vitaflo 😂worth it now
Tbh I just see this destroying the availability of old Technics knobs/sliders for turntables, which is unfortunate. TE went out of their way to NOT use the standard knob/fader sizes we mass produce replacements for. I guarantee it cost more to use the dead Technics format.
@@Leo9ineLego Technics aren't connected to Technics turntables. And Technics tables don't have a fader aside from the pitch control, which is a totally different piece, in no way compatible with Lego Technics. This assumption is adorable though.
For some reason you remind me of Chevy Chase in Vacation......don't know why, maybe its the fun feeling. Maybe its the way the presentation of the EP133 K.O. II is .....
Yeah it’s a love hate relationship with this thing for me. It’s got the looks and cool factor but it’s finicky when trimming. The whole erase thing is inconsistent. Drives me nuts.
Your supposed to trim in the sound menu with the plus and minus, that way he showed it is just to trim quick stuff but not exact like in the menu.
I'm actually pretty impressed with mine. Could have been 250 or 200 but that's only really because of a few limitations that aren't really that annoying.
People complained about the sample rate but it handles everything I've recorded and imported just fine
Wow! You’re able to palm that thing-and it’s not tiny
I've got freak mode long thumbs😅😭
Attaching the fader can be solved if you use a hair-dryer on the knob for a minute or two and then install it on the fader, it'll be soft for a snug fit.
Love the Little Feat shirt bro! Waiting For Columbus is such a good live album
My favorite, I actually gasped a little when I noticed
I see the bright lights from memphis, from the commodore hotel.
im a feats dont fail me now stan
I see a lot of talk about the limitations of it as a sampler- but with its capabilities as a sequencer- plus the 12 or so channels of midi out, Ive not seen a lot of people talk about using it as a hardware sequencer for other gear. Imo on paper it seems better at that than most options in the price range. How well does it work as a brain? This is honestly what I’d be most interested in
Depeche 18:10 Mode would proud 👏 love this !!
nice to see people reviewing stuff they actually bought themselves. Lately the whole YT review market has become very toxic and reviewers have often been labelled as shills etc.
Im not fond of drum sampling this way
... but THIS one is WET 👀
... ahem.
Scuse me.
That said lol
Nice Video
Great insight
I have a SP404MKII and PO133
So i get it ...
And i might buy one later in 2024 to relieve my GAS
✌
I love the "commit" workflow. Does anything else have similar? I just watched your video on the polyend play and it was like 5 clicks with two fingers to create a new "variation". I'm just a beginner who wants to make jams with his two year old, so looking for something to be the center of my setup.
I'm sure someone had told you by now but that trimming method is just for quick and dirty, you can trim more precisely for serious work in the sound menu with the plus and minus.. you know that by now right? Maybe you should put a disclaimer in so people won't think they have to trim annoyingly..
Those patches sound pretty good!
KOII brought to you by Seth Rogan?! Great walkthrough - waiting for the back order. Thanks!
Hello Jorb glad to see ya again! Could you kindly do a video on pairing this with an sp? Both formations please being knockout to sp and vice versa
Sold my 303, don't have any SP😅😅
@@JorbLovesGear how about pair it with the mpc of your choice. It seems pretty cool honestly I'm tempted to get the k.o.
This would be a game changer for me if you could use fx on a per pad basis as it stands its on a per scene so whichever fx you want say reverb all groups have to be that throughout the scenes. Why 99 scenes if you can't have separate songs per project 99 is overkill. You have to use the same sounds through out each project.
Great review as usual. Although I appreciate the price point I don't think this is for me. Seems like it's for hipster parties rather than being a centre piece of a music making setup.
I been having fun with mine. I actually like trimming samples on here, using my ears vs my eyes.
I have a mpc one plus to but I can’t take it with me everywhere like this.
I wish there were jump/catch options for the knobs in the system menu
First K.O. video where I can read the button labels. Thank you. It's the small things, really. It's like procreation...most of us can do it, but most of us that can, are terrible at it and really shouldn't.
🙏🙏🙏 That's one of the things I try and make sure I've always done right, gotten the gear framed big enough that someone on a phone can see the panel
The fact that it’s got the form factor of an old calculator is kinda rad.
I need a sampler, and I’m either gonna get this or maybe a novation rhythm. We’ll see what’s up. I think this is the answer, and you even mentioned the comps. 🎉
I have both …. They both have their pluses and minuses … I love the Novation workflow ….I get things done quick … but no time stretching ….but you can re sample ….but there is no visual display …..horses for courses as they say
@@lorrenaelliott161 for a complete beginner to music production who just wants to make some music for fun, which of the two would you recommend?
Thanks for this. This probably isn't for me unless and until they add resampling. But it's very cool. And I'm happy that there's a sampler on the market for 300 that's this powerful
I don’t get what the big deal is with resampling. I looked it up online to see what people are referring to but everybody has a different definition for what it is. What is it?
@@Mar.Escobar24resampling for samplers is the ability to resample from the device itself. You can do this on most samplers and it opens up a lot of doors creatively. Some examples of this are being able to resample to an empty pad and you can then play a bunch of sounds on the device like a drum loop or similar and then you have that loop on one pad and you can trim it etc from there. It lets you build complex layers or bake in multiple effects to one pad as you can resample over and over. On this particular device it would allow adding effects to a single sample which currently it doesn’t support. You can add effect to a group but not one specific pad/sample. I’m pretty confident that we will see this function added as a firmware update as I’m guessing it’s the most requested feature for this device. I can’t guarantee it though.
@@nervouscookslike if I make a drum loop on 1 sequence in my MPC One and convert it to a sample, then assign it to just one pad?
@@Mar.Escobar24 yes exactly, it’s easily done on the MPC. You can also do it by using the sampler on the MPC and setting the inputs to resample. I do it all the time on my MPC One. It’s a fun way to work! It should definitely be a feature on anything calling itself a sampler!
@@nervouscooks yeah I get that. I love my MPC One because it does a lot of what I need it to do at home, but these retro type portable samplers are dope to take anywhere just to be creative when I go on family trips and stuff. I like using my PO-33’s a lot and the Koala app but paired with the Beatbox for that hands-on feel. I ordered one of these just to add another to the collection and because of the PO-33 continuation. They’re limited, but it also pushes me to be more creative. One day I hope to get the SP-1200 cuz that thing is crazy expensive 😂 but thanks for that info!
TE makes cool looking stuff that really isn't worth paying for
Yup, i have the same feelings towards that company. Almost got it tho since its so cheap but in the end went for a 404 MK2 after testing both units in the store.
Best tutorial and breakdown of the KO II i've seen so far! Great job! Little critique is that the visual editing of the screen and cropping aren't my fav. I'm only saying it as something to consider
It about making labels and screens visible, for something like this I would rather the info be clear than have a vibey video
Exciting fx ❤ this box and Play need to have the fx on external gear to be bakable in the sequencer :)
Fader parameters you can record! But not the punch in yes
@@JorbLovesGear so many performance techniques. I am drooling 🫠
@@JorbLovesGear i just remembered its possible to bake in the fx on the internal samples on Play 😅 I will definitely buy a piece of the second KO2 batch. Love and peace ❤️
Your indepence is valuable in this climate
So if you want to use its sounds and its sampler features for a more complex and changing "song" does it work with your daw as a midi module, multi timbral with effects? I know defeats the cool workflow but the samples sound really great and you might want to use it that way for your samples and for a whole song in your daw
its good if this is the hype new sampler, now i get to buy a sp404mk2 :D
Definitely; the main thing about EP-133 to me is it makes the SP-404 look even better than it did before. They got too many things wrong on EP-133.
I thank you for this video, what is oscilloscope green in your video please ?
Whoa...wait...what? Never heard of that album. That track is dope AF! ...and it's not even the best on the album.
Huge props, you just made my weekend! Prob, no lie. haha What else you got? Anyway, thank you sir! #Jorb
Tbh, the EP-133 seems neat but limited for the price, but has me most excited for whatever EP product they make next. I'd love to see the Arcade get the EP treatment.
I think that's a fair assessment, definitely.
I would love a drum machine one, factory or whatever
EP-132 tonic but with a non-drumsynth engine included designed by Sonic charge.
Nice jorb, Jorb! Can it have odd length patterns or is 1 bar the smallest increment?
Oh dude I dont know if it can do anything other than 4.4.... Great question
Unresponsive fader out of the box. Returned it and now a two month wait. Back to my mpc. I’ll wait for a second edition.
Huge drag
Great video! I might pick one of these up now, do you know exactly how long the sampling memory is? I can’t find it mentioned anywhere
It's not much, 64mb is the whole storage
What's your preferred tool for sampling vinyl? I'd love to have something that lives on my console for sampling. Been considering an MPC One but that feels like overkill.
I already have the SP-404MK2, a Microfreak, saving for a Digitakt and now I want this.....I HATE GEAR LUST! Hahahahahah
Just keep saving for a Digitakt... this thing is too basic. I mean it works for me but I'm guitar player and if I actually had time I would get the MPC ONE+
Return to this in one year. It won’t age well you will end up with loads more 😂
I appreciate your advice guys. I guess I just want to own something from TE, but if I use my head for a bit and critically think about it...I'd rather buy a good pedal for my MF, or buy a used Drumbrute Impact for about the same amount. That would be more sensible than this GAS I am having now.
Great video! Re HPF applying to a sound - can you apply it as a recorded fader. On that PAD?
On the whole *group* yes
If they wanted to make one product that would hit record sales one day... this was a great sales tactic to have everything else way over priced...for this would be a very good price from any company, but it's from the most expensive company around... and the design and the aesthetic fits the retro vibe us sampler using folks love... then, it is very portable via how thin it is... when the combo of the clothes and the device costs more than twice as much there's something weird going on... I really hope this wasn't a introductory price and they jack it up after this
can i use punch in effects on per sample basis? or select just claps pattern/scene and perform a lets say hp filter on just that pattern/scene? or are punch in effects global only, meaning i can apply them only on entire track? thanks.
I ordered one on a whim because it looks like a fun little box. Not sure how exactly it will fit into my workflow, but I've never had any sort of sampler before and it looked neat to play around with.
Same, its a but less fun than I was hoping but I might use it to make beats in bed lol
@@scamculture still haven't gotten a shipping confirmation for mine and I ordered it the morning of release. So we shall see. I figured it wouldn't be too hard to get rid of if I didn't vibe with it. But I was also planning on bringing it to work to noodle on my lunch breaks
@Neiltrama1 oh hey it's you again. Do you just go to every video for this product to be an asshole in the comments? Is this a good use of your time? Is your life that sad?
@@leftovernoiseYou should return it before the mass recall.
@@leftovernoisewith the federate issue it might be very hard to resell in the future.
Possible to automate those effects you're doing at 17:48? Like, maybe you wanna bitcrush every 4th snare or do like a filtersweep than happens every 4 bars or whatever. Or do you have to perform everything?
You can automate the fader FX, but NOT the punch in fx. bitcrush should be a send effect
What’s that music visualizer thing on your desk called? Looks dope!
czcams.com/video/ghfMBVU_6tQ/video.html
Just ordered mine from zzounds
Cool but if you need a sampler its worth the extra 200 to get the sp404mk2... 10x the features of this and also battery powered. BUT the form factor is what is awesome about TE and this is super portable... would have loved this when I was an actual teenager.
Oh dang, I thought this took batteries..?
@@jacobst.ongecasavant9327the KO II is battery powered, and apparently the battery life is really good too.
@@jacobst.ongecasavant9327 Yes, ...also battery powered...
they serve different purposes at the end of the day. i own a sp404 and i miss a more immediate drum machine sampler so i picked this up.
@@jacobst.ongecasavant9327 Both are battery powered, but the sp404mk2 has no speaker.
Great vid. What I find absolutely grating about this machine is that it has been hyped beyond belief, sold at boutique clothing shops & thus will become a trophy of sorts, which given it’s aesthetic was not a surprise. However, when it actually comes down to sampling….it fucking sucks.
Fader was broken for me and I started a return. I was delicate on the install because I saw the fader video first but it still was broken. TE support said that it was related to shipping?
i've heard a few stories about them being bad out of the box, really sucks
I know they're not really the same but... Im curious knowing you've owned both. If you only had a choice between one would you get this or a used mpc 1000? The mpc 1000 has a beefier work flow, but do you think the immediacy and modern features of the KO make it more worth while?
So different yeah... If I need to sequence hardware probably the 1k.
Just as a sampler, this is faster, more modern.
But if rather cut a record on the 1k 🤷🤷
I have both. MPC 1000 is way more capable but tedious to use, KO is very limited but you are out the gate in a jiffy.
with that fixed display, do you see issues with ability to add functionality in terms of updates? are you hopeful for resample or project import/export?
what do you mean? it's got an 11 segment display. the sky's the limit! ;)
